IB is starting in less than a month and I'm really excited. I even cleaned up my bag 3 weeks ago (I know it's stupid) But my question to you guys is, "What did you take with you the first day of school?". When I say school I mean IB. There are some people giving me a couple of ideas ( like Peachez, btw thanks ) How many notebooks should I take? Get a big or a small bag? Get chocolates and gums ? etc. Anyway I hope I get a lot of replies because I'm kind of confused

Hello all! I am currently using a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop for all my internet and word documenting needs... but I've been trying to do some research about a new computer to buy for the start of college next year. What kind of computers do you use? Desktop or laptop? What brand? Any recommendations? I've been looking into HPs... Thanks for the help!

Hey, I was wondering what sports do you guys like and why? I personally enjoy playing basketball, primarily due to the fast pace, teamwork, athleticism, and excitement involved. Running and tennis are two other favorites. There's nothing like running a few miles to relieve stress, hehe. That runner's high is incredible!

I am in need of some good advice I was wondering what you think I should do, from personal experience I hope, with ym sleep during summer. *****Keep on staying up - keep the momentum of my sleeplessness (4-6 hours a night during school sometimes less) *****Get lots of sleep, maybe 8 hours of day in order to build everything back up. AFTER: during school time, I plan on sleeping 2 hours a night. so my question is, which one of the two options above is more conducive to my desire to stay up 2 hours daily. thanks

I like to watch seasons upon seasons of a television series in one sitting. One of my greatest guilty pleasures. My brain is pretty much rotted though, after having watched two seasons of Gossip Girl in one session, haha. So yeah, I was wondering if there are any "intelligent" TV shows that you guys could recommend? Some that I already really enjoy: 24, CSI, Bones, and House.

When I came to England last year I thought that the mentally was so different to the point of being strange, and one of the most significant things I can remember are those devious mum jokes some people would conjure up. In the beginning I thought they were annoying but I got used to them and realised that they were hilarious. People love being random, many of my friends quote from films or videos and one hilarious video is 'charlie the unicorn'. When I saw the first video out of 3 I thought it was retarded but after having watched all of them I loved the randomness and the sheer stupidness which made it amazing I wonder if some of you people catch my drift and would car…

Okay this is probably entirely random, but I was wondering whether anybody else has the random and quite useless brain function known as musical association. It's basically just that, without intending to or thinking about it, certain songs bring back a particular mood, memory or atmosphere you were feeling/in at a certain time when you were listening to the music. You don't have to be musical (at least, I'm not!) but it's like a strong association thing. Kind of like how we associate certain smells with certain feelings (for instance the smell of your mum's perfume when you're little makes you feel secure). As I found it quite cathartic, especially during the evils of th…

Well, life sucks in general, really, especially life in IB. We all know the feeling of going on and on and complaining about IB stress, or just stress in our lives in general. So it's even more important to savour the small little good moments in life, I think. This is a thread for you to share with others the little good things in your life right now. Why is life good right now? It's not hard to think of little good moments in your life, even if it's just stupid stuff like you heard a good joke or whatever. But recognising them as good times can make you feel loads better. So the rule of this thread is that you can't complain about anything in here. You have to start…

So it's the end of IB Year 1, and I've basically got a world of IAs and tests to do before the glorious bliss that is summer comes around. I'm basically a living zombie right now - consistently trying to stay awake through all my classes and through all my homework. All this work is really breaking me down and, more importantly, decreasing my efficiency level... Therefore, I was wondering: what do you do for relaxing? Maybe we can share some ideas and pool some thoughts together. For me, I like to go jogging and do yoga - something I do weekly. Or bi-weekly, if I have the time. Sigh. Obviously I need something that I'll get into, even when I've got 3 quizzes and a test …

Has anybody taken one (as in the training course), or taught on one before? I'm pretty keen to nab myself a spot so I can get a job for next summer. The thought of being able to apply for a well-paying job and spend all my spare time literally being paid to live in Brasil is just too tempting However, I've been reading several conflicting things. Like, for example, that they do weekend courses but these are too good to be true and nobody will employ you unless you go on the month-long courses. However the month long courses are like £1,300 and I really don't want to have to fork that much out of the old savings bank unless it really is going to make a big difference to e…

Hi, I'm entering the last year of IB this coming September, so university applications are coming up pretty soon. I was struggling with whether I want to do Sociology or Anthropology at uni, but then I realised that I didn't know the difference between the two! Can anyone explain to me how the two are different, or whether there are any good books I could get my hands on, to get myself better prepared? Any help appreciated, thank you!

Hi, I've just finished my gr. 9 year in BC Canada, and am looking for some advice. I've been a pretty good student ever since elementary school, getting A's and B's and getting generally high scores on tests and things without having to study much at all. So, normally, I think I would enjoy IB, except I'm also a dedicated music student. Next June I'm taking my gr. 10 RCM piano exam, and I'm planning on doing my ARCT performer's exam in June 2012 (that would be about a month after I would do my ib exams). Anyway, bottom line is that I spend at around 1-2 hrs a day practicing piano. Also, though I still have 5 theory courses to take preferably before June 2012, all of which…

The title should really be "Regrets of this School Year" since it's the school year that's concluded for most people. I'm sure most people strive to live "with no regrets" but inevitably we will look at some of our past actions with disdain. So, what have you regretted doing this year? Me, personally - to be honest, I don't really regret anything that much. I regret letting most of my Grade 11 marks sink to hell... that definitely wasn't exactly the smartest thing to do. However, I'm pretty happy with my cumulative marks in the end because the universities I plan on going to (Canadian ones) don't look at your Grade 11 marks, except for early admission. Non-academically, I…

So what do you think? Do Aliens exist? I bet they do, they're much smarter than us and look like us probably. No, they don't have multiple arms and legs. And they look down on us as those idiots who can't even run their own planet. Losers, who the hell wants to associate with them, they're much better off without them.

I just read comments on Facebook the other day about words that sound strange to foreigners who don't understand Finnish. And I thought that since there's obviously words in every language that make foreigners laugh, we should share them (and maybe learn some new vocabulary at the same time). If you post a word in your language, please provide a translation in English so that people can laugh at it. And if it's in an alphabet that is not Latin, also write how to pronounce it. To start off with: Finnish words Lämpimämpi- It means "warmer". Fillarilla- On a bike. Valtavalta- Great. Bilehile- Word for a shallow person who lives to party and does nothing else with their life.…

If you bcome rich and had the power to do any wonderful charity event/ thing you could, what would it be? and why? I want to build an orphanage and look after all the children until they reach uni, put them through and make sure they get good jobs. I think that there are alot of kid who just need a little bit of help, and also to many unhappy abortions and unwant pregnancies. I want this to be a 'natural' (not quite sure its the right word) option for kids who can really have a future. I mean, i've got these loving parents, comfortable house and all these awesome belongs and memories and aids. Why shouldn't they if I can help it?

Hey folks, I'm new around here so forgive me if I've posted in the wrong place. Is there a thread around somewhere for past papers? I'm just wondering what resources are valued most by people around here. And I did try the search button, but nothing of any relevancy popped up. Specifically I'm on the hunt for Geo papers from the may 08 session, so if anyone could help me out that would be awesome. cheers, fizzicsfiend

Hello everyone, I've just realized that there isn't a thread for chatting about random stuff that merge IB and non-IB issues. I know that the rest of the threads are much more specific, but more broad conversations (where everyone can talk about anything - things that don't fit in the other threads) are nice to have around here. I'm talking about interests, random questions, post-exam feelings and comments on anything. You know, to connect, share opinions, ehm.. increase posts.. Ok, I guess I'll start. Long have I wanted to know what went wrong in the Chemistry May 2007 exam. People talk and talk but you can't seem to get a real answer. So we started off with our seni…
