Hey! I was always told to round up all the answers to 3 significant figures. However when I was doing past papers, I saw that for instance exercises with future value demand 2 decimal places otherwise they do not award points. How come? Are there any more detaile rules? I appreciate all the answers as the exams are tommorow!

I need your help with this project and I would like you to answer this poll please. What i'm going to find out is whether eating breakfast affects your grades depending on gender and where you live. ( check out part 1 if you haven't done so yet, please :))

Hi! Please, help me as soon as it is possible. I my project I wrote the conclusion in the form of one, long paragraph and I connected it with the evaluation. However, my teacher told me that I should divide this conclusion into a few smaller ones, written under every mathematical process. Now I do not know what to do because in every good project I saw conclusions written in the form of one, long paragraph at the end of the work. What do you think?

Hi~ I was wondering if there was anyone who did Statistics for their Math Studies IA. How should I go about on writing the introduction? Is there a format for it? I just transferred from SL to Studies so I`m still a bit confused on what to do. Thank you in advance~

Ok. So my math studies IA is on evaluating day lengths of a particular city. I'm trying to predict how long will the summer solstice be by evaluating the day lengths of the past 5 months. The day lengths make a sin curve, but I only picked 180 days or 5 months. The sin curve isn't complete enough for me to calculate sin regression by hand. I did the sin reg on my TI-84. Will IB accept that or will I have to do it by hand? Its just that it take SOOO long to get data for this because I had to go in and refigure all of the data. Like I had to change all the days so Janurary 1st becomes day 0 and so on until March 31st became day 90, AND I had to convert the hours/minut…

Hey there! My IA is due quite soon, and I thought I had enough sets of data with the 50 answered surveys I have collected so far. I'm pretty sure our teacher mentioned that 50 was the minimum, at one point. However, I just read the IA guide on here, which recommended at least 100 sets of data, at least if you're using the Chi-square test (which I am planning to use). Will I lose marks if i don't have enough data? Or will it be fine if I mention that this is a weakness in my research? Should I try to collect more data? I have struggled a bit with obtaining enough data as it is, so I may not be able to acquire 50 additional responses.

I have done my IA and there is no correlation, I wouldn't want to have to repeat it, is there any problems with my data having no correlation? Can I still get full marks by having correct mathematical process and a good evaluation?

So my Math Studies IA is on gender and desired professional fields and there's only so much I can do with calculations (from what we have been taught to do) when it comes to two pieces of qualitative data. I've also taken into consideration the age demographic of the people who took my survey but the majority were around my age, so I only discuss that bit in the beginning and in the conclusion. I've got like 5 graphs just to make it look good so it looks like I've made an effort because it really did take me months to figure out what data to prioritise, but is there a limit for how many graphs you can include or will it look like a lot of waffle? I've got stacked bar char…

Hello! I am working on my IA, I chose to do a survey online and it is about gender vs diet. So I asked for gender and then left three options regarding diet. I have organized my data into a table of observed value (contingency table) to use for a chi-squared test, I will also find the percentages, but I am missing one simple process. Anyone have an idea what I can do with data that is for example: Option 1: 424 Option 2: 232 Option 3: 632 I am not sure if this makes any sense at all so feel free to ask further questions if that might help, thanks in advance c:

So one of my friends did not do her math studies IA. Does she have a chance at staying in IB? She lacks motivation and so idk if there would be anything that she can really do to get her grades up and make a high score on the actual exam. What can I do to help her? Or what can I tell her about staying in IB?

I'm doing my math IA on the relationship between stress levels and students' grades in IB, and I'm collecting my data through a survey. I've done it with the students at my own school but I need more responses. If you can help me out, here's my survey: http://goo.gl/forms/9muTNrA8lG You don't need to give out your state/province or your school name, but it would be good information to have in my appendix and to show the extent of the survey so I encourage you to include your state/province but again it's not necessary. Thank you!

I originally planned to do a chi-squared test for my IA, but I only have 80 survey responses and the expected frequencies are too low to do a reliable chi-squared test. What are some other further processes I can do and what are some examples of some simple processes?

Hello, My title (Does the Height of Basketball Players Affect the Number of Points they Score in a Season) I was wondering if this is a good one or not? I have written the introduction and hypothesis, and I have the data for the top 10 shortest and tallest players and the number of points they have scored during a season. However, I don't know how to portray the data. I have it in a table, but I want to portray it properly. Should I put it in a graph or bar chart to show the results? Any help would be appreciated

Hey, I'm doing the IA and was wondering what would be considered "further process" compared to "simple process." The achievement level 4 for Criterion C says this: "Examples of further processes are differential calculus, mathematical modeling, optimization, analysis of exponential functions, statistical tests and distributions, compound probability." I'm already using a Chi squared test and I think that counts as a "further process" but does anyone have more examples of "further processes"? My topic is the relationship between sports and GPA. Edit: Also, should I write the IA in first person or third person?

I turned in my rough draft and I received notes as well as an angry teacher about using the first person in my paper. However, I looked through sample IAs and literally all of them use the first person as well, which leads me to believe that there is not a rule against it and that my teacher just has her own rules. Also does anyone have any tips on how to write my IA without using "I" or "my?" I can write perfectly fine in other subjects but this is sort of a challenge...

So a while back I conducted a survey about career paths and gathered 100 responses from 50 male and 50 female participants. Originally I wanted to have responses from people of all ages to see if men and women's choice of career path differed greatly from those born in the 1950s to the 2000s. I asked participants for their gender, age and chosen career within 13 different professional fields (example: sciences, art, education... etc) but what I realised is that the majority of my participants turned out to be born in the 1990s and I only got a few born in the '70s, '60s and '50s. Does this mean I shouldn't do the age comparison thing at all? It's sort of too late to gat…

At my school, the juniors this year are doing math all in one year with our math year 1 in the first semester and math year 2 in the second semester. (The seniors didn't do this and most haven't even done much yet in their IA's.) The IA's are due to my teacher in February. Last December I decided to collect data early and get that out of the way. I asked students to rank their stress and grades 1-5, and I only got 53 responses. The expected frequencies were extremely low so I redid it so that they would rank their stress and grades low, medium, or high, but now I only have 46 responses. I have every IB junior, and 10 IB seniors, and I'm considering adding IB CP students (…

hello, I just have a quick question about my ia hypothesis question, I want to know if its testable for ibo. I've gone through a series of questions already and would hate to have to start over because my questions isn't up to ibo standards or isn't testable. topic question: DID THE HOUSE MARKET CRASH OF 2006-2011 AFFECT THE US ECONOMY? or maybe DOES THE CRASH OF THE HOUSE MARKET AFFECT AN ECONOMY? (in case saying US is too specific or needless for math) I did plan on looking only at data from the US house market crash of the recent years , is that okay? I'm open to suggestions in addition any ideas what ibo means by using two equations when analyze data? thank you

So I'm doing a statistical Maths IA to investigate if education reduces income inequality and I'm testing the correlation between gini coefficient, education expenditure as a percentage of a country's GDP and finally education index, and this will be done for the top 50 developed countries (by HDI rank). So the question is would it be suitable for me to assume a linear trend throughout the years and …
