Hi, I'll get straight to it: I'm a sophmore and I'm choosing my courses for next year. The only IB science courses offered at my school are IB Chemistry SL, IB Physics SL, and IB Biology HL (although 1st year is SL). In terms of math, theres IB Math SL and IB Math HL (2 years). IB History HL and IB English HL are required. I want to focus on science (hence take all the sciences) and I'm aiming for the elite universities. At the same time I want to get a high GPA and 6-7s on exams. I'm currently taking AP Calculus AB (and getting high marks) and the curriculum for IB Math HL isn't anything new to me too. It's more about how *conceptual* IB Math HL is and the *time commitme…

I want to study computer science at university level. My school does not offer Computer Science in IB and most of the biggest Uni's see Computer Science as a 'desirable' subject but not required. I am already planning on self teaching my self computer science through something like Coursera. I met with my IB coordinator and decided provisional subjects for next year. I chose Math HL, Physics HL and ITGS HL as well as Economics SL, English Lang and Lit SL and Spanish SL. My concern is that ITGS might be seen as a 'soft' subject and therefore be bad for my chances at top universities. Should i switch ITGS and Economics? Are there any recommendation of what i can do? I hat…

Firstly, I am aware there are a lot of similar posts around this time round, so thanks for all your time! Current choices: HL: SL: History English Lit A Biology Chinese A Chemistry Maths So I am currently studying in the UK and I'm from Hong Kong hence ChineseSL. I will be taking my IGCSEs soon and really need to make my mind up on my sixth form choices. My school provides both A Levels and IB, I am fairly sure that I will be doing IB but here comes my problems: 1. I am aiming for PPE / History and Economics at Oxford, the Uni Page does say the bare minimum is Maths SL but from what I've read it seems I might be at a disadvantage if I…

I have to write an analysis and compare a poem and a review due to their similarities, their differences in terms of structure, purpose, stylistic devices, tone and mood. And I have to follow the "PIE" rule which are the point, the illustration and the explanation and I'm a bit nervous because I don't know how to start and where to start. :/

Hey there!! I'm in pre-Ib now. Need to choose subjects for IB. I'll say directly, I'm pretty good at Math, but I need to decide if I take Math SL or Math on Studies. The problem is that I'm also taking Chemistry HL and English A SL(and I'm not a native English speaker) So I'm afraid that it would be too hard. And also I don't really need math in the future. I wan to go for a jurist or marketing manager. They don't need math on SL, to take you to the university for above said courses, right? Looking forward your advices

I've set my eyes on law or medicine at uni, but I can't decide yet. I'm planning on applying to universities like Oxbridge etc. I have to choose my IB subjects very soon and my school offers: Mathematics HL, SL, Studies SL Philosophy History Psychology Bio Chem Physics and then the languages Finnish and English Also, I might be changing school and that one will not have philosophy and psychology, but instead global politics and economics.

Hello! I'm in pre-IB now. Before 1 March I need to choose my subjects for the next year. I thinking of: English A SL; German B SL; Psychology HL; Business and Management HL; Chemistry HL and Math SL. I'm not a native English speaker, that's why I'm afraid that English A would be too hard for me. I'm also not sure about chemistry (though I'm good at it now, but it's pre-IB, so I think it doesn't count) I was thinking to take Math on Studies instead of SL(to make my life easier), but someone told me that it would be better to take SL, because a lot of universities look at your math level, even if your course is not connected with this subject. I'm planning to go for a juri…

Hello guys! I am fifteen, and from the US. I applied to a high school that's not my home school, and what do ya know? I got accepted! This is all really exciting, but what's even more exciting is that I applied to one of the school's "magnet" programs- the IB program. When I applied, I had a basic idea of what it was about- I'd be taking classes that are nearly all college-level, and it'd be the same standards that kids all around the world would be dealing with too. I felt extremely lucky to get accepted, especially when I learned my two friends- who also applied- didn't make it. But my backstory aside, I am looking for advice on how to "survive" the IB program. I know …

Hi Everyone! I'm currently deciding which subjects to take for IB. I'm hoping to study Psychology at university and I'm unsure whether to take HL Business, Economics or Global Politics, alongside a definite HL English and Psychology. I was also wondering whether taking maths studies will put me back in any way when applying to universities! Thank you in advance!

Hey everyone! I'm a rising junior planning to pursue an IB Diploma next school year and I'm concerned over subject choices. I'm interested in psychology, sociology, and social sciences in general. Sadly, our school doesn't offer IB Psychology, but it offers the AP version, so I'll be fine. Here's what I'm thinking right now: English A1 HL (school requires) History HL (only group 3 hl in my school) Bio HL? Math SL/HL? Spanish SL Social Anthropology SL Do my subjects sound alright based on my interests? I'm not sure about bio as my third hl, as I took an honors bio class before and didn't enjoy it due to the teacher. I feel like I could definitely enjoy it …

So, since my school doesn't really care about the pre-IB class, we have a lot of pretty bad, non-IB teachers, among them our history teacher. We've gotten an assignment said to be written "in the style of the EE", but he hasn't given us any explanation on it whatsoever, and speaks around the subject when I ask. Can anyone give a short summary on how to do research, how to analyze sources, how to structure an essay like that? It's not supposed to be particularly long (700-1200 words), and it doesn't have to be amazing, as I'm not taking IB history, but I have to pass. Thanks!

Hey, guys! I had to hand in my DP subject choices, I start the program in September 2016. I really want to study engineering ( mechanical, aerospace and electronics are my main choices). So I chose these subjects, I just wanted an opinion on how they are. Hello fellow pre-IB students! I recently handed in my application to do the IB Diploma Programme, but ever since I handed it in I've been second guessing the subjects I chose. These subjects are that I chose: English A: Literature HL Spanish ab initio (SL) History HL Chemistry HL Sports, Exercise, and Health Sciences SL Math SL Canadian curriculum Physics during summer And I obviously have ToK, EE, and CAS. I like all the subjects I've chosen, but I'm unsure about History HL. Should I take History HL or Psychology HL? I'm interested in both subjects, but I'm afraid I will not be interested in History and it will be too late. Also, I plan on studying sciences in university…

So..since many people create this "Subject selection" topic, I shall do one myself. I live in Sweden and I'm also choosing the subjects until the 10th of February. I want to study medicine abroad (Mainly the UK) and in Sweden too. But I'm confused. The subject choices I was considering are: HL: History Biology English A (Language & Lit) SL: Chemistry Mathmatics Swedish A (To get accepted in Swedish uni's too) However, in the Swedish universities you also need to study physics. Which unfortunately I can't since a 7th subject is not recommended by my teachers. So....I wonder, are my choices good enough to study medicine abroad (mainly UK) and in Sweden? If not. …

Hey everyone, So, I've recently started to doubt my IB choices a lot recently. First of all, I am a PURE science person. Like really really science-y. For my IB choices I chose HL: Maths, Physics, Chem, Geo and SL: English, German B My art teacher today told me that we're allowed to do an irregular (I guess) diploma with all three sciences. So, for all of the sciences I get fairly easy 7s whereas for the social studies I get about 5-6s. So what I'm thinking about doing is taking maths, physics and chem at HL and biology at SL. To me, this sounds like a great idea (as in much more fun), the only thing is that if I do that I can't drop Maths HL... Right now I'm in IGC…

Hey! So, i'm going to apply to the university of michigan and it is very competitive! So, my original idea was to do Ab Initio Spanish because it interests me. Then I thought to myself, If I take HL French B (as a 4th HL) , It'll be an easy 7(+ will give me more college credit ;o) but the workload will probably be a lot. These are my other subjects: HL English Literature (I know that this class is moderately hard) SL Psychology (I'm not sure) HL Biology (I know that this class is very hard) SL Math Studies (This will be okay) HL Theatre (This will not be much of an issue for me)

I have two choices I could do SEHS SL or Biology HL? If I do Biology HL I would be doing 4 HL's and from what I've heard I don't want to do 4 HL's. Should I do it?? Im sure im not the first person to have this problem, but i need some help from previous IB students. Well I'm new here, and the reason I created an account is because I have to come up with an idea of what to do for my PP by the end of next week. I know how people say that you should do what you like/you're interested in for your PP, but the thing is I don't know what I like. I don't have any particular interest in anything, heck I don't even know what I want to be. I'm creating this topic in hopes of getting knowledge from experienced IB students or even better some IB grads. I hope if anyone reads this and can help, please reply. Thanks in advance, Billy PS. I'm very sure that I'm not interested in visual arts as well as physics

Hi! I'm choosing my subjects in 3 days and I just want to know what other IB students (with more experience) think about my plan. I want to take * Swedish LangLit A HL * English B HL * Business & Management HL * Math Studies / SL * Economics SL * Environmental Systems & Societies SL * German SL I don't know what I want to study after finishing IB but I'm sure it won't have anything to do with math/science. HI FRIENDS! So I am about to start grade 11 very soon and I am considering pursuing law in university. Will that be a problem when I'm applying to good universities for business? Hi! I will be starting IB next year and I'm having trouble deciding on my arts option (group 6). I'm about to start the IB program at a new school and I'm having some trouble with choosing subjects, especially considering i have no idea what i would like to study at university. Anyway, here's my ideas thus far: High Level: Economics Computer Science/Physics/Chemistry Physics/Chemistry Standard Level: French English Literature Math I'm concerned that if I do a science plus com sci that i'll be limiting the subjects that i can take at uni. Also, if i choose two sciences (without com sci), it will be equally as difficult to study computer science at university - especially considering that i am not going HL math.
