OK, so there are people who are asking for things such as "Give me an RQ" or along those lines. This thread is kind of like a super doc that will tell you the do's and the don'ts in terms of courtesy, asking for help etc. What we can help with! a) We can help narrow or broaden an RQ b) We can comment on how to improve an RQ c) We can help with explaining citations etc d) We can help explain what you have to do in an assessment. e) Tell you if an article is OK or not for an Econ IA. What we can't do! a) Give you an RQ b) Do your work for you c) Tell you a fail proof formula for a 7 (its not possible!) d) Allow you to discuss papers before 24 hours are up. IB rules. …

There are many threads around this giant forum that offer help, tips, advice, places to ask questions and get answer etc. etc. but like I said, it's a giant forum and finding them all, or finding the very one YOU need can be difficult. So here's a quick list of some awesome threads that you can use to help you with anything you might need. General IB Awesomeness 1. How To Not Fail at Writing Essays - READ THIS. Having done the IB I know full well it's not just me who has time management/procrastination issues, so hopefully other people will find this useful (should there be an answer xP). I've never actually gone as far as a timetable before, but I feel it has become necessary because I genuinely suck at doing anything decent with my time unless forced Does anybody know of some free software which I can use to make myself a daily timetable a la computer? Thanks in advance!

I just moved to a school with IB, I'm currently a Sophomore in Pre-IB, with a few IB and AP classes. Taking IB Pre-Calculus and it's not that bad at all. I'm a straight A student. What's the difference between Higher Level and Standard Level, what requirements are needed to be in a HL class? Does IB have any requirements as to which classes are HL and which are SL? What's the final requirement for the IB Diploma? I just feel so lost when people try explaining it to me. Thanks for any help ^.^

Okay, lots of questions pop up such as 'what do I need to pass?' or 'will I fail if I get a 2?' and nobody knows all of the exact criteria and conditions so here is a list as published by the IB: The IB diploma will be awarded to a candidate whose total score is 24, 25, 26 or 27 points, provided all the following requirements have been met:a. Numeric grades have been awarded in all six subjects registered for the IB diploma. b. All CAS requirements have been met.c. Grades A (highest) to E (lowest) have been awarded for both theory of knowledge and an extended essay, with a grade of at least D in one of them.d. There is no grade 1 in any subject.e. Just throwing this out there, because I see a lot of questions and a lot of wishy-washy answers about this... Your score in certain subjects is made up of components that are internally assessed and externally moderated Addition: some components, like your World Literature essay(s), ToK essay, and of course Extended Essay, are not moderated but assessed (i.e. all sent off) [thanks for lynyrd and imopotato for pointing out that the WL is not moderated] For others, like your IOC, Mathematics portfolios, Science Lab Reports, Economics Portfolio, (and so on), your teacher sends out a "representative" sample The size of this sample depends on the number of students in your cl…

Here are a list of IB official teacher support materials for various subjects, and proved to be invaluable for me while doing my internal assessments (and also external assessment for theatre) for all subjects as it provides many exemplars both good and bad. I couldn't find the TSM for economics though... Sup people of the IB. I found a short guide that I wrote a while ago that deals with stress and procrastination. I'll add more to it later (the irony but it is late ) so hopefully it's helpful. There's more to come if I remember Stress Firstly stress at school is mainly caused by lack of organisation. So sorting that out could half or even eliminate your 'i want to rip the hair out of my head' feeling! How to organise work: Invest in a folder if you write notes with a note book and use folder separators to make things easier. This makes losing notes a lot less likely because they are in a named folder. Plus it makes you feel really professional If you're feeling …

As we may have known, the IBDP course is available for examinations in English, French and Spanish. Which language are/were you doing IBDP course in? Is/was your school only offering that language type of course? Any interest in doing the IBDP in another language? I am doing IBDP in English. I think all IB schools in Indonesia offer their courses in English it would be great if we had it in Bahasa Indonesia but I guess I'll still prefer the English course because it will help me to improve my English and prepare me to study abroad What about you guys?

hey everyone! getting nervous about results? ok, well, i'm mightily confuzzled and hoping someone can help me. all along everyone has told me that we get results on the 6th january, ib coordinator gets them on the 5th. all well and good. but i logged on to the results site (to check that it worked) and it says results will be available 15.00 GMT on the 6th january, which is actually 2am on the 7th for me (in sydney)..so is it the 7th? however, on the UAC (new south wales tertiary admissions centre) it says that change of preferences closes 12.00 on the 6th, so it obviously thinks we have our results then..and the queensland equivalent (QTAC) seems to think it receives t…

Hey guys, Here are the subjects I plan to take: English Lit. SL Mandarin SL Economics HL/SL Physics HL/SL Math HL/SL Comp. Sci. HL So my problem is in choosing what subjects I should take for HL. I'm not really sure what I plan on taking for uni but it's either going to be in computers/engineering or economics/finance. So among Econ, Physics, and Math, which two should I take as HL and which one should I just take as SL? Thanks!

Hello IB mates, As the title says, I would like to know if you can spend a year without studying and then continue with the second year of the IB. I am not thinking about doing it because I am lazy, but because I am having health issues that interfere with my hability to learn (they are not psychiatryc, but they severely worsen my memory and attention, among other things...). So I would spend the year solving my health issues and recovering. I will ask for advise to my teachers but first I would like to have an idea of what my options are. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, I am having some confusion with the selection of Option Units for HL Bio and HL Chem. According to the 'Biology for the IB Diploma' textbook (by C.J. Clegg), there are such things as 'HL only', 'SL only' and 'SL and HL' Option units. However, when looking at my Pearson Baccalaureate textbook for HL Chemistry, there does not appear to be any categorizations of the options unit. My question is: As an HL student, am I not allowed to write these so-called 'SL only' Options? For instance, I wanted to do Human Nutrition (Option A) and Evolution (Option D) for Bio. According to the Clegg textbook, Option A is 'SL only' and Option D is 'both'. Am I not allowed to do…

Hahaha. So I just learned via Facebook that the "preppy" rich girls are going to be in a lot of my IB courses. It's hard for me to comprehend girls who ask questions like "isn't physics some sort of biology or something like that?" and "is the USA in debt?" taking Theory of Knowledge... -sigh- What's it like at your school? Do you feel that there are a lot of people who really shouldn't be taking IB courses that do?

Hey, i'm just sorta curious. The IB students at my school, as part of the "IB is hell" joke that (I think) is common with all IB students, consider the IB coordinador extremely evil, waiting for the opportunity to find an IB student alone and devour his soul. In our case, it's Ms. Bandy (or BeelzeBandy :diablo: ). I was just wondering if any of you feel that same way about your IBC..... ...or if you actually think IB is heaven, that would be...interesting.... ...or if any of you know Bandy, you probably go to my school, Ridgeview High, and we can make a big deal about the fact that we go to the same school... PS- I gotta love this smiley:

There is a set of soft IB subjects which are considered inferior by UK universities. If you take more than one of those, you get your chances of getting into Cambridge very very low. so these are (not a complete list) Business management Enviromental sciences Peace and conflict studies ... There was a whole list of those. Ill post them here when I get the list back.

"Students Gamble on International Baccalaureate" http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/education/article6735896.ece (Click on spoiler to read article). I'm just curious to see what people's opinions are in terms of where the blame lies for this sort of thing and whether there ought to be a greater degree of IBO involvement with schools, rather than a franchise-esque model in which they allow a school to be an IB school, and then have little else to do with it.

I often find it easy to just open up the internet tab and by "mistake" type in youtube.com or facebook.com instead of those other sites I should visit... Sometimes when I lack sites to visit, I try to enter IBsurvival to find more stuff to procastinate on. It is simple, just tell yourself here that you should get to start working with your, whatever you have to do. I'll start. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Okay Erik, you visited this webpage again? I came across a post a while ago that listed all the tricks to finding past exams, so I thought they might be wanted here as well. These are well known tricks and I've been telling them to my friends for years, but it's nice to have them all in one place. [quote="Stevko"]Every paper contains sentence "Do not open this examination paper until instructed to do so". Every paper contains words Diploma programme. Almost every paper is PDF file. So you take search engine and input this query: "until instructed to do so" diploma programme (with quotation marks). You can also specify that you want to search for PDF files (not necessary). Then you find good search engines. …

Why not only rely on past papers? In my opinion, the best preparation with past papers is not to look over mark scheme. Essentially, as the name suggests, mark schemes only aim to aid teachers to mark student’s work on his paper. Not only does it lack with the detailed explanation, but also students lose their opportunity to encounter real IB style questions if they rely too much on mark scheme. For section A questions it relatively gives a good explanation; for Section B questions, however, when things get lengthy, explanations tend to be very concise and often do not make sense for students. It solely aims to guide teachers to base their grading criteria; it …

I need your advice on this one guys, here's the somewhat summarized story: So I went to this IB school abroad for a year and came back home for the summer, turns out my parents ran out of money and now I've been out of school for 3 months and I'm still back home. IA's started about a month and a half ago and I was working on my history IA from home, Biology IA started and after talking to the teacher he told me the coordinator told him that I'm not allowed to work on them from home because of the "academic honesty" policy, they then asked my parents to give them another date; they did, and it's in 20 days, the school said that's the final delay date I can …

Teamspeak is a free program that allows users from around the world to communicate with each other. It's like Skype but better. You can join or leave a chat room whenever you like which is an improvement to Skype's calling system. However to make your own server it requires a bit of time and money. If I can get enough people willing to use T.S for study sessions etc. I will be more than happy to make a server. Plans for this TeamSpeak server: - Create server that is dedicated to students of the IB program - Have multiple chat rooms dedicated to specific subjects, these chat rooms will be open to the public - Have private chat rooms that a group can use to study for a …

Hello guys, I am here to ask you guys a few opinions and facts to clarify for me. I am taking comp sci and math sl, which in the first year i took it with a teacher but the teacher didn't really teach us anything in math. In comp sci he only teach us basic wordings and problems not java or anything. I submitted my CS IA (i think it will do well) and he says that I will get only a 1. He basically hates us male students so he also gave me a 1 predicted grade, i just did the mock exam, i understand and know how to do it well, but he graded me so pettily it's stupid. And in math we had a new teacher he is better than him. What happens if he graded me so poorly and unfairly, w…

I just wanna know what you think my chances are of getting marked up to a 7. I had 19/25 on paper 1 and 48/60 on paper 2. My paper 1 was the highest mark out of the whole class. The overall class average was a high 6. Considering I didn't even finish writing paper 1, is 19/25 normal? Maybe the examiner didn't notice or something... Comment, please.

I am 1 point away from receiving a 6 on my IB SL ESS exam. I am a junior and plan on majoring in environmental science in college. I would like to send my ESS score to colleges when I apply in the fall and would rather have the 6 if it could be boosted. However, my essays for ESS were a bit out there.. I talked a lot about the women's rights movements for one of them, which I was very scared would not earn many points. I am afraid that if I have it remarked the essays will lose points and I will get a 4. My questions are: What are the odds that my score is boosted if I request a remark? What are the odds that my score drops to a 4 if I remark it? Is it worth it? Tha…

Hello. I'm a new student in the 2 year course IBDP Program this year and I have an urgent question right now. Is it possible to take 2 language B subjects for the IBDP Program? So, here is my plan. I want to take English B (HL) and MandarinAB Initio for my choice 1 and choice 2 language subjects respectively. However, I'm currently in English A (SL) because I'm not offered English B (HL), but my English teacher kept on saying that if you think that you can't take English A SL, because it's very tough and your language skills is not sufficient, you can go down. So, I went to meet the VP of my school to talk about this because I want to go down and he to…

Do I get a chance to take them again in May? 2, Retakes... Assume that I failed 2010 May exams. Do I retake in 2010 November? Or do I retake them in 2011 May? What happens to the CAS, TOK, IAs? Do I have to retake all subjects? Thanks for helping. My school didn't explain any of these to us.

Well, right now I'm trying to be the good daughter. I'm doing the Maths HL/Physics HL thing, or as my friends have dubbed it - "mental crazy suicide" (I get that quite often). The problem is that I don't really like Maths that much. Honestly. I know that I'm quite capable of the HL course (and I like to think that my maths teacher thinks that too) But it does my head in, driving me slightly paranoid and/or passive-agressive. And I don't see too much point to it. Physics is something I like a lot, but I'm afraid I'm not that great at it. I look at things, I break things - not a good start. Engineering sounds cool, but I don't think I could do it in Uni, so there's not muc…

I got an 88 in SL physics, 95 in SL math, 90-something in HL geo (haven't gotten my mark yet), and 83 in ab initio spanish. This has been a dissapointing first semester of IB. But I'm not discouraged. Second semester will be INTENSE. The world will see that I, Howerabin, is more than capable of getting straight 7s > spanish has surely brought my marks down. But EVERYTHING in 2nd semester will be in english. I have HL chem, SL math, SL physics, and HL english. So yeah, let's do this!
