Hi all, I have recently found a hidden gem. An Instagram account that makes daily posts on everything an IB student needs to know about the diploma program. They post everything from common mistakes students make, to useful tips and tricks to secure level 7s and even share IA and EE ideas. For example, today they posted about how an IB 45 student prepared for their 8 mark Biology questions in the final IB exam. I have learned a lot from their site, and it has really helped me a lot, so I thought I would share it here to help others!

If I get admission in a college through my predicted grades, do my final IB marks matter? What if I get into a college and ,y final marks are way lower than the predicted grades?

I just had my first paper and got a 4 in it and our school considers this test for a 10% of our predicted grades (the ones that go to college). Is there still a great chance for me to get 7 in my final predicted grade overall??

Our comprehensive faculty of Online IB Physics tutors is highly experienced professionals who have excelled in offering the best online tuitions at an affordable fee. Physics as it seems to many students is a complex subject that is interesting but difficult if fundamentals are not clear. Therefore, it is very much necessary to clear the fundamental concept of physics for scoring the best grades at the IB Physics exam. As we do for other science subjects, we at Baccalaureate Academy offer the best online coaching classes for Physics to students finding additional guidance apart from the regular school classes. Physics needs a clear interpretation of complicated theories a…

Hi! My school doesn't leave a lot of options for subjects to choose from. I want to study biotechnology in university. The subjects that I have picked so far are: Spanish ab initio SL Psychology HL Biology HL Math SL I have to decide whether to take English HL or Visual Arts HL for my last HL class. The school i'm in isn't in the US so at first I picked English HL, but it seems like it would be hard to have both Biology HL and ENglish HL at the same time. It isn't required to take English HL for us (just recommended). Also, my school doesn't have chemistry as an IB subject.

Hi, I'm during the start of the first year of IB, and am doing Maths SL. I'm currently stuck with a TI-30XB multiview calculator. I'm aware that the TI-84 is the preferred calculator, but do you think that the TI-30XB can get me through the first part until I get a TI-84?

Hi everyone, I just started year 12 this week. Unsure of what I wanted to do in the future, I chose HL Chem, Bio, Econ and SL Eng Lang Lit, Chinese B and Math AA. Now that I have had at least one session with each subject, I'm really starting to doubt my choices. Firstly, I dont really know what career would require the 3 HL's that I have chosen. I know that Chem and bio would be good for medicine but I believe that HL Math was important to have as well. Furthermore, I dont have any desire to study medicine, nor do I think that I am smart enough for medicine, and to do well in these subjects. I had my first Econ class today and I felt so uncomfortable the whole t…

Hey so I have a question. If lets say I do my IA in biology and follow an experiment that has been done before but I change a few things to make it my own? e.g the effect of temperature on seed germination but instead of copying the exact temperature conditions, I come up with my own. Is it plagiarism? Do you have to come up with your own experiment?I'm freaking out

Hey All! So I was wondering about the viability of self-study for HL math? My school never offers it because another school near had all their kids one year take it, and apparently all of them managed to fail it. I really like math and want to take the HL course but it would have to be independent study where I sit in SL math and absorb the base content and self-teach the rest of the HL content with teacher assistance as needed. Can it be done? In theory of course it can but I need input/opinions on what other IB students think. Thanks, Bo Purtell

Keep the M2021 exams. Don't repeat the unfair 2020 grading system! Whether you are a M2020 alumni, an IB teacher, or a frequent visitor of the r/IBO subreddit, you know what happened to last year's IB exams, and the response it has. Students taking it onto social media calling it an unfair and ridiculous system of grading. Why? You sit nervously waiting for your grade which you worked hard for. You know you're going to score well because you got straight 7's in your school tests and you got predicted a 43. Your coordinator emails you your grade and you can't wait to be accepted into that conditional offer at Havard or Cambridge.... Then, that face of dread - you…

PLEASEEE HELP ME DECIDE If you've taken HL economics and/or HL chemistry (or know anyone that has), I need your opinion because I'm really indecisive. My other HL's are HL math analysis and approaches and HL biology, but I'm conflicted between HL chem or econs. I'm considering studying medicine (then specialising in either neuroscience or cardiology) or maybe finance. Is HL chemistry really as hard as everyone says it is? Could I still go into medicine without taking Chemistry HL? pls send help

I heard some rumors that if I don't take math hl, there are no many option for me when I apply to university. Is that true? My dream school is UCL, McGill, HKU and NYUSH. Also, these are my class right Hl: History, Economics, Biology Sl: English A Lan/Lit, Spanish B, Math AA SL

I know they want pen on most exams 8except multiple choice where they want pencil). But Is it allowed to use pens which have ersable ink on the exams which require pen? This would make writing english exams as well as physics/biology/chemsitry/math a lot easier (all exams really ) Anyone know for certain if you're allowed to use an erasable pen or not?

Hi everyone, I've heard it is possible to get your exam papers reexamined if you feel there's a mistake. Is it so? How long does it take? I've also heard you have to pay for it? And finally, could your grades be lowered as well? Is everything reevaluated? Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance! ~mc

I'm doing HL Chem Physics and Math. I heard that BM is considered a soft subject by universities, I don't know if CS is considered the same. Which subject is easier? I'm going to be doing engineering but I've heard that CS is not required and isn't preferred, and BM provides practical knowledge and allows to be more rounded. Does CS help in university, how much programming content is involved? What should I take? Thank you. Sorry for asking this question before but I am still in doubt.

Hi everyone, im an Ib student quite stupid to fail the IAs this year(they are externally evaluated this year) i get 21 points, and i need these 3 points to enter the university, otherwise i need to wait for one more year till the next round. My parents are already mad at me so i need help. Im thinking to do the re-evaluate thing, but i dont know if it worth to do it or not. The three points i want to get from math, english a and chemistry. In both math and english i need 3 points to get to the next boundary, and so i can get a 4 there. and chemistry, i have a 2, 6 points to the next boundary, can u give me some advice.

I would be grateful if anyone would help me with the following question: I got my results and in Math I got a 6 (with 1 point away from a 7) and in Biology I got a 6 also (with 2 points away from a 7). I knew that this year the remarking system is different from past years, as there is a new "tolerance grade" set for each subject, according to the IB "Enquiries Upon Results (EURs) for May 2020" report. In this regards, I was thinking of asking for a remark in both subjects. Do you advise me to do that or is there a risk of lowering my grade or is it unworthy in these new set "tolerance" rules? (Please note that I am at the top grade percentage of a 6 in bot…

Hello. It would be pleasant to receive advice. I finished my first year and I'm taking a double bachellor title. The IB and a national baccaloureate. I can say that I don't have any predicted grade but I'm qualified with a nine out of ten (median final mark in all the subjects) for my first year in the classwork for the national baccaloureate, this is not acurate and I would say that I could take 5/7 in all the subjects except from maths wich would be something between 4 or 5 of 7. I wants to pull them to a six but as I've said the syllabus gets mixed and I havent done any past papers. I have to recall the units of every subject as I don't remember part of them, because o…

Hello I am currently doing a pre-IB curriculum, and for my group 3 and 4 subjects I have chosen economics and physics respectively. Only recently have I realised that my school does not provide SL econ and physics, and whilst I am happy to take HL physics, I remain skeptical about taking HL economics, as I have no intentions of doing an economics-related major in university. The only reason I chose economics in the frist place was because the only other group 3 offerings were psychology and business management, both of which I have even less interest in. However, I would be able to take SL for those subjects and free up a HL subject. Is this advisable? I am alr…

Hello! I am a rising 11th grader and initially selected the courses: HL History, HL Geography, HL English LL, SL Spanish LL, SL Biology, and SL Math Applications and Interpretation. I am considering to switch from HL Geography to HL Biology, and change to SL Math Analysis. However, I would then have two very content heavy HL courses (Bio and History), which I have heard very bad things about. How do-able is it to do these courses together? Could someone also provide feedback on the new maths courses? While I heard that universities do not care which one you pick unless you study a mathematical field, I am aware that SL Math Applications and Interpretation is akin to…

Hey! I'lll be starting the IB, August 2020. I have about two months of freetime so I was wondering if there are any things I can do to prepare myself. Someone recommended learning the MLA Style citation technique so I'm doing that. I'm also doing a precalculus course on Khan Academy. My subjects are HL math aa HL economics HL global politics SL chemistry SL english a SL french b I've never done economics in my life before. So what would be a good resource (ONLINE!) to study it? Anything else that IB students need to do during the school year but have no time to do and can do it the summer before?

Hey! In my country tutoring is a business run by adult teachers and not students outside of schools. I'm going to be attending quite a prestigious school this August(2020) but even though everyone is supposedly smart here, they all attend extra tuition classes. The school teachers are really good and the school asks everyone to approach the teachers and not enrol for tuition classes but nobody listens. On another note I have been studying a national curriculum upto grade ten so i have no exposure to the teaching methods of the IB. My board was quite focused on memorisation and rote learning. We barely undertook research work which I hear is a very important part…

I wasn't able to do my iGSCEs because of the entire covid situation, so essentially I have summer break already and i've gotten to the point where I just want to do something productive for IB. Does anyone know any way that I can start studying for IB a bit early on my own?? My HLs are Maths AA, Eng Lit, Econ and my SLs are Spanish B, Geo, and Physics I wanted to try doing Econ early but I think there's a new syllabus that's happening from next year and that's not out yet. I honestly don't know how/ where to start.

My current subjects are HL Math, Physics, Lang & Lit, ESS, Business, and French ab initio. I have 2 concerns with this: 1. Business and ESS are taught by the same person, and he kind of can't teach 2. Because I take Business, ESS, and ab initio, I'm afraid that it would not be competitive enough when applying to universities As a result, I'm considering one of the following: a) Take Business as a HL (have 4 HLs) b) Change Business to Chemistry c) Change ESS to Economics What do you suggest? I'm leaning towards the first two options, but I really don't know.

Idk if this has already been posted before but I’m a senior that was supposed to take the May 2020 exams but since those aren’t going to take place, our scores will be based on IAs and Predicteds. I recently got my Biology IA score from my teacher and although I worked hard on it and was hoping for a 4/5, they ended giving me a 3. I’m really worried right now because my predicted is a 5 and I really don’t want to disappoint my parents. I’m kinda hoping that the examiner bumps up my score slightly because I’m at a high 3 and plus my teacher is known for not being good and is very harsh when it comes to grading. I honestly don’t know why I’m posting here but I’m just feelin…

Hello everyone, As written in the prescribed questiones which was given by the IB offcial, the genre which I am going to choose extract from is 'novel'. However, as far as I understand, all the questions for prose fiction are the same, which means that those prescribed questions are also the same for genre 'short story'. I did not notice this slight difference between 'novel' and 'short story' in English language. Because in my first language, novel and short story was decribed by the same word (so they are literally the same) and I thought if my genre is novel, I can choose from either short novel or long novel. In short, if my 'genre to be used' is novel, can…

I don't know if I should take 3 or 4hls. I want to study business/economics in the US (Ivies, MIT, Stanford...). I currently have Slovene A HL English B HL Math SL (technically I'm on hl but I'll switch) Economics HL Bio SL I'm considering taking French at hl. It's not that hard to me and apparently there isn't much of a difference between sl and hl. I'd prefer to have 3 hl and less work but I think it might look a bit weak if I have my native language as an hl. Do you think I should take French at hl? Would it increase my chances of admission?

Does anyone know the deadlines that are given to IB examiners to read through and mark eg science IAs (chemistry)? Is there eg a certain date (perhaps in June?) when all examiners (regardless subject and the assessment component that they examine) must insert their marks into whatever system they use so that the IBO can guarentee that the diplomas will be awarded in early July? What's the pace at which an examiner must read and mark IAs?
