Hello, I'm currently writing my IA in Psychology HL about Loftus and Palmer 1974. For calculating the inferential results I have used the Mann-Whitney U test and justified it by saying that I used an independent meeasure design in my experiment. I don't really know if that's enough for justifying it or if I should include other reasons? Thank you for the help.

Hi All, I am doing my Psychology IA on Loftus & Palmer. But, my results are opposite of the actual study. What should I do now? If I am to use my current results (which is opposite of Loftus & Palmer), do I have to mention studies done to support the opposite? I could not find any studies which shows the opposite. Thanks a lot.

The question is: Explain how one principle that defines the biological level of analysis may be demonstrated in research. I think of explaining the following principle: "behavioural patterns can be inherited". I want to use Kendler (2006) IS twin study a research method? Or should I talk about correlational studies? Thank you in advance!

I'm a grade 10 myp student in Ontario Canada and I had to take two HL courses for next year, so I took Psych as one of them. However I'm afraid now that I made the wrong decision cause I'd hate it if Psych required too much socializing! OK, let my describe myself. I'm that loner who often sits all alone in class, spends most lunches in the library studying alone, and I absolutely hate group work! Cause usually when there's a group activity I need to go to some random group of people and ask them if I can be in their group, or worse go to a teacher and tell them that I couldn't find a group! Oh God I absolutely hate group work. I'm asking this because I've been reading Psy…

Core Paper 1 SAQ Concluding Comments
by Guest- 0 replies

Hi everyone! My IB Psychology teacher always advises us to end our SAQ responses in Paper 1 with a 2- to 3-sentence conclusion that includes an evaluation of the study we used. However, I've read on several websites that this is not required (and even not recommended), as SAQs do not address the evaluation criterion (as essays do). When I told my teacher about my thoughts, she said that what I pointed out was valid, but IB examiners tend to be very subjective in marking the papers. What do you think???

I have to select my courses for IB soon (in 6 days). I have to decide between History HL and Psychology HL. Right now I'm leaning towards History HL, but I'm afraid I'll lose interest. I find Psychology and History equally as interesting currently. Do you guys find Psychology HL interesting?

Can it be claimed that experimental trials can be used as part of the research method in an organizational case study?? The Pearson Psychology textbook says this is fine, but I've heard that in previous years marks were deducted from Paper 3 responses that referred to the experimental method as a valid component of the case study method.

Hello everyone. I've conducted two tests, an independent t-test and a Mann Whitney U test for my psychology IA, but they give different results! The t-test confirms my research hypothesis, while the Mann Whitney U test disproves my hypothesis. The Mann Whitney U test, according to cranepsych, appears to be more acceptable by the IB for use in the inferential statistics section of the IA, but the t-test can also be used if it is properly justified!!... What should I do?? Should I go with Mann-Whitney OR the t-test??

Hi! I am writing my IB exams in May 2016. To be honest, I am a little anxious about my Psychology HL grade. I certainly aim to get 7, but my class is the fourth IB class in our school, and in the last third classes nobody got 7 in Psych HL. There were only two 7 in SL. Is it really so difficult to get this mark on the exam?

Hi, so I'm wondering if there are any simple psychology experiments which could be ran by three individuals which take no longer than 1 and a half hour? If there are some good sites or any that have been done in the past that have been successful and was able to collect a good amount of data, that would be great. Thanks.

Hi all! I'm writing my Psych IA conclusion and I'm stuck with a potentially huge problem because I'm not sure I wrote my results up right. I'm afraid to disclose much in here, publicly, because of originality, etc, and I'm doing the experiment alone, so I don't really have anyone to consult with. (And my teacher would never work during the holidays.) Can anyone help who's gotten a good grade from their IA and/or did well in Psychology? Please let me know (write here & I'll PM you -- or PM me directly) if you may be able to help. Thank you so much!!

Hi guys, I am in the process of finishing my psychology HL IA. Our teacher is new to the IB and she has no idea about inferential stats so she is not even checking it for us as she doesn't know how to do it and it is up to us. I have managed to do the Wilcoxon test using an application online however I don't know how I am supposed to explain it and relate it to my data and hypothesis. My experiment was on the stroop effect and I used a repeated measure design which is why I chose to do a Wilcoxon test. Can someone please help me with this. Thank you all in advance.

I had originally picked Psychology SL as my Group 3 subject during the Pre-IB year but everybody told me Economics was easier, more useful in the future, and went better with the rest of my subjects so I switched last minute. I thought I'd eventually learn to like it but honestly I just hate it more and more, and I feel like psychology is more of my type of subject. I want to switch Econ SL to Psych SL. Would it be hard to catch up if I've been in Economics SL since August? And would taking Psyc…

For our psychology IA, my partners and I decided to do an experiment based off of one that tested the effects of classical music on cognitive development with a repeated measures design. Due to lack of clarification, we tested the effects of classical, metal, and hip hop music on cognitive development with an independent measures design (too many variables). Our teacher cleared this up and told us to only talk about the results of one musical genre in comparison to the control group, so we decided to write about heavy metal in our IA's, However, our teacher is now telling us that we had to use the same genre of music that was used in the original statement and that we mus…

Hello! Me and my group are in desperate need of help for our IA data analysis. We are doing ours on gender stereotyped perceptions in newborn infants. In our study we showed the participants a photo of a baby but labelled it differently depending on the condition (this is a baby girl vs this is a baby boy). Depending on the information we gave to the participant we hypothesised that if the baby was labelled as a girl for instance they would tick more "female characteristics" on a list we gave to them. Questions we have are: - Since we are only supposed to analyse one variable, is the effect of gender counted as one variable or should we analyse the effect of one label (…

Hey guys, I'm doing my Psychology IA on the Anderson and Pichert experiment. Basically, in this study 20 participants were made to read out a story and they were each assigned a schema of either a house buyer (10) or a burglar (10). After reading the story, they had to recall the information about the house in the story from their assigned schema. After a small distraction task, the schemas of the participants were switched. 10 participants remained with their previous schema while the rest 10 were given the opposite schema. Their recalls were tested again. I used an independent measures sample and the recall questionnaires were scored out of 20 points. What inferentia…

Hi everyone! I was just wondering how to write the paragraph about inferential statistics in my IA. I did all of the math (I think) and figured out the significance level and which hypothesis to reject and accept, but I don't know what two-tailed or one-tailed means (my teacher wants it in the paragraph). Here is exactly what my teacher said to put in the paragraph: Analysis of Results: This information is used to decide the level of significance that was achieved in the study. You must justify why you chose your statistical test. Words like one-tailed, non-parametric and type of data (ordinal, nominal, and interval) should be used. Information like the critical value …

Hello, everyone! As you all know, the IB Psych exam is in early May, which is right around the corner. In my class, I have only done one practice Paper 1 and one practice Paper 2, so I haven't gotten much in terms of feedback. My teacher refuses to grade any practice essays that I write on my own time because she says that if she does so for one student, she would have to do it for everyone. Also, I apologize if this is in the wrong section or if this is against the rules. …

Null Hypothesis (H0) = Participants who will be viewing the image, will have no significant effect on the number of words recalled. Thanks

Hello everyone, I came up with three research questions that I think I can look into for my psychology EE. Can you guys pick which one you think is best? So here are my research questions: Why is Autism diagnosed more often in boys than it is in girls? What are emotions and how can we prevent and deal with negative emotions? Hi, i am replicating Bartlett's (1932) study for psychology IA. The aim of this replicating study is investigating how social and cultural factors influence schemas and hence can lead to memory distortions. My hypothesis is the people with familiar to their culture will recall their memory accurately and people with unfamiliar to their culture will have memory distortions and make some errors on reproducing stories. However, i don't understand the differences of experimental hypothesis and null hypothesis. What are the differences?

How does our unconscious mind determine and channel our dream state? However my teacher tells me that w…

I've just got started with the actual process of trying to write my EE; this is following plenty of thought and discussion with teachers as to what (within psychology) my topic could be. I decided that I wanted to focus on language acquisition as I'm very interested in both linguistics and psychology and numerous ties can be made between the two. So far the two questions that I have come up with are; To what extent can a first language inhibit second-language acquisition? -looking at the syntax/morphology of certain languages as opposed to others -relevance of language acquisition theory// (innate vs. learned) -critical period hypothesis (might this be what makes S…
