  1. The thing is, we pick the subject area first then we are assigned to a supervisor, which is also what I'm worried about. ):
  2. Hey guys, so I've chosen to either do an English or Psych EE? I keep changing my mind and I have to decide my subject area by Friday. Our school only gave us 3 days to decide our final subject area and it's driving me crazy. I'm really interested in Category 2 (language) or Category 3 for English as mass communications does interest me. However, Psychology is also full of wonderful topics that I'd love to research on. I haven't really brainstormed full-on topic questions, but just like a few ideas that I will later narrow down. But here's a few... which do you think will be more interesting or good for the EE? English: Music as a language (ex. Bob Marley whose music had a lot of meaning and brought peace, how many people bond and communicate through music, etc.) intermix of languages (how many languages mix their language with English? Not really sure on that one...) Social class and language How slang has changed over the years Code-switching power of internet (how language has changed because of it) how being bilingual has changed over years (apparently it wasn't a good thing back then, but not it's proving to have a lot of advantages) Psychology: -Addiction -Morals (like goodness or badness in character, what makes one think like a criminal, while others would not bare to kill someone.. This is kind of getting into criminal psychology which I haven't studied yet in psych class. - Sports psychology -Social psychology -Lucifer Effect -The link between adopted children to their biological parents (like how many adopted children always want to find their biological parents and have that link with them?)
  3. Hey guys, so I just had my first EE meeting today and they suddenly told us we had to pick an EE subject area and only gave us about 2-3 days to decide our final subject area. I vacillating between English, Psychology or Economics. First, do you think its best to do a subject area that you'd probably major in or relating to the major you'll take in uni? I'm thinking of studying Economics or Business in Uni but I'm not sure if I should do it as an EE as my Economic grade hasn't been that great this semester. Also, many of the teachers say it's a difficult area to tackle, especially when collecting data. Second, I have a couple of ideas for English. My IB coordinator says English is usually the most successful, but I'm not sure if I've read enough literature to find a good topic. I was thinking of something along the lines of how books about dystopian societies appeal to many readers? Lastly, psychology is one of the popular ones too, but it's also hard to get a good grade on as well. I find it very interesting, but I don't know if I'd get a high grade on it. lol I'm actually confused by what I just wrote so I apologize in advance. But anyway, heeeelp!
  4. When did you guys start talking about the EE? I'm already in my second semester of IB1 and we still haven't had a single meeting to discuss the EE or to even introduce it. Kinda worried about my school.
  5. Hey guys, I have to do an Econ Macroeconomics commentary soon. I am currently looking for articles, and these are the ones I found. http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/417531/philippines-is-fastest-growing-asian-country-for-first-quarter-of-2013 http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2013/11/11/philippines-economy-typhoon/3494517/ - Philippine Inflation/Growth rate http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financialcrisis/9986806/Greek-unemployment-hits-a-fresh-record.html - Greek unemployment http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/international-business/european-business/spain-unveils-46-billion-plan-to-get-young-back-to-work/article9659563/%C2%A0/ -Spain unemployment http://www.economist.com/news/finance-and-economics/21588364-heavily-indebted-island-weighs-americas-municipal-bond-market-puerto-pobre - Puerto Rico http://www.economist.com/news/europe/21580178-despite-shrinking-economy-portuguese-want-keep-euro-floundering -Portugal I feel like the Greek and Spain unemployment are very common as they are very popular topics. I kind of like the Philippine article, what do you think? Thanks!
  6. Wish I did Bio instead of Environmental Science...
  7. Hey guys, ever since I started the IB program, I've had no time to study for the SATs. However, my exam is on January and I haven't even begun studying. How do you guys find time to study for the SATs? Do you have a specific SAT study plan?
  8. Does anyone know a study that shows that zeitgebers (such as light, temperature, etc) affects the circadian rhythm? Maybe one about shift works? Thanks!
  9. Hey guys, I need to write my written task. However, I just can't seem to make a decision on what text type to write. I have decided to write about language and power, specifically about the First Nations in Canada. My teacher says we have to first of all, find an example of our chosen text type. I originally want to do a blog, but I can't find any blogs that talk about the First Nations. I also wanted to do a letter from a perspective of a First Nation survivor demanding apology from Canada's federal government for their sufferings, but I'm not sure about that. I could always do a magazine article or newspaper editorial, but it has to be 1000 words. I still don't know what specific topic about the First Nations I wanna talk about. What do you guys think? I have to submit my rationale by tomorrow!
  10. No, I don't wanna study any sciences. Probably something that's related to Business or Law.
  11. Do you really have to be doubling in sciences to study in the UK? The only science course I'm taking is Environmental SS and I don't even think that counts to begin with. I've tried changing courses but my counselor says it's too late and would mess up my current schedule ):
  12. lol well that totally answered my question..
  13. I know that some people kind of look down on ESS compared to the other science courses. I plan to either take the business or law route but I also want to study Biology because I think it's interesting. I'm already taking Economic HL anyway. Do you think universities will mind either one? Also, how related is ESS to Business or Law? Thanks guys!
  14. Same, although more of scared because I'm also worried about being the "new student" since I'm transferring to a new school next school year.
