  1. Thanks for your advise, I will take this in consideration for tomorrow's appointment with the school Hope they'll let me in for Economics Higher Level! No problem, and Good luck. I'm sure with proper motivation and good BSing, you'll ace IB Econ. They said they let me do Economics Higher!!! I'm so happy right now, thanks for everybody advise! I'm feeling so lucky
  2. I PASSED! I'm so lucky that you guys helped! THANK YOU THANK YOU
  3. Much easier than History as well! Econ students at my school actually have a chance of getting 7s. Meanwhile, in English HL or History... My personal experience with econ is also positive. You just need some common sense with some memorization of terms/concepts to fill in your knowledge here and there. I'll probably choose economics but I got a problem... The last exam Economics exam that i've done in year 11 (GCSE) went so bad and therefore I'm not sure school will let me do Economics Higher but I really want to... Do you think will I have chances to do economics? What can I tell them if I want to do... We can only choose: Philosophy, Economics or History and I guess I must choose one in this group but i'm so confused because i'm not good in neither of these 3 subjects. I never learned Philosophy before but it requires a minimum of B in History.. I failed History and also Business and i'm so stressed! What can I do at this point?? All three of the subjects do not require pre-requisite knowledge. I took Econ HL without ANY prior knowledge, and it's pretty easy. I would just nag your school so they'll take you for Econ HL; this decision isn't really up to me, but it's up to your school. IMO you should be able to take Econ even if you didn't do well on GCSEs because they won't be a strong indicator of how well you'll do in IB Economics. Thanks for your advise, I will take this in consideration for tomorrow's appointment with the school Hope they'll let me in for Economics Higher Level!
  4. You made me think a lot, thank you. I'm sure I should repeat GCSEs if I can on November while doing IB. I'm already prepared because i passed my summer studying and didn't go out for holidays. I'm also considering myself to be more mature than I was last year and I will tell my teacher about my problem and let him think a little bit. I know exam may be far way more important than family problems sometimes but I just need to tell this for sure. I wasn't secure first but now i'm totally sure that the head teacher will find a way or get me a chance to repeat gcses at least. So technically if I don't get to the IB,my school will let me enter to an Italian school automatically but i really don't want to because i don't feel confident about changing school, i really love my current school and I mean I like this school everything.... Friends, teacher, the way of learning etc.... As I've mentioned, they told me to don't worry. I have to say that no calls or emails are sent to my parents so this is at least a good news that I don't have to repeat the year. I saw that in our school, if grade retention is urgent they should have sent to my parents something..... Anyways thank you for your answer
  5. Well the family problem is that the week before starting exams so in May, my mom discovered she was pregnant and considered to abort because she wasn't expect this to happen (weird situation though). It breaks my heart knowing that my little brother/sister will never exist and could have loved being in this family. i'm against abortion so I kinda got this conflict with my family. My mom told me that she's going to abort anyway because my parents can't manage to have another child while i'm already 16 and my brother 12.(stupid reason they told me) So there's a huge age difference and it was a problem for them, but anyways not for ME. At the end my mother went to china to abort (I don't know why in china), BUT after a month she returned with the surprise that she's not going to abort anymore. This thing made me happy but it didn't went well for my exams (while I already finished 3 and a half/4 of exams when she returned) I was worrying about family situation more than gcses at that time! I wasn't expecting that all these situation may happen and there's so much to discover, I know it's a weird family situation but it's just the reality of things, i'm not a weak person, I accepted the decision of abort if my mother really wanted to, so I was at the time to do well on my gcse but knew it was too late. So should I tell the truth? I don't know because it's like the head teacher think that I'm crazy or something, even if I really want to tell it ..... What's best??
  6. I agree on what you said, I hope school will let me have the chance to repeat exams and prove me that i'm ready for the IB. I'm so stressed, i'm worried my parents will hate me for the rest of my life. I failed because I got family problems but I clearly don't want school to know about it while they'll think it's an excuse and I don't want that people feel sorry for me because it's my problem. So what can I do about this? Do I have to tell to my school positive things or inform this type of things too? I've always been confident with the head teacher that I'm going to talk on Tuesday, I helped my friends a lot during school for example one of my closest friends want to suicide but I inform this to my school and they helped my friend out and everyone thanks me, I even helped one of my chinese friend on English and translate him when he can't understand something (I'm chinese too), so in some words I helped everyone, everyone know that I can make it in IB.. but I think I have to take more time at helping myself for success... so this is what i'll do next year..... sorry if I went out of discussion though, thank you for your answer, it really helped a lot
  7. Yes of course I'm considering this option and hope they will let me repeat gcse while doing IB, i'm prepared for this challenge and I want to make myself proud that I can hopefully make it. But still don't know yet what is school offering to me..

  9. I know this is a forum for IB students, but I need more advise from you people as you are doing IB and got more experience on those type of things....
  10. I'm a girl, chinese, living in Italy, and just finished GCSEs in a private school. All of my school friends passed (everyone I think) and they will do International Baccalaureate program next year on September, I mean also people that were not doing well passed too. I didn't received any detention, suspension etc.during my school life and never skipped a lesson. I've always been a good student but didn't do well on my last exams and surely i wasn't expecting disappointing grades, i only got family problems during my exams period so failed with Ds most of my important exams. No letter of grade retention or phone calls were received fortunately. I e-mailed my school and they said that they will sort something out on Tuesday with me, the day where I got an appointment with my school headtecher. I'm so worried about to repeat the whole year only for my bad exam grade's. I'm not sleeping during the night's as well, and not eating a lot in these days. I'm soo desperate... I need at least 5 A*-C to do IB program...and only discovered it today... my school changed they're website info. (so mad at this) and I only passed 3 gcse's.... I know it's terrible. Another thing is that one of my friend passed 3 exams too, but he passed to get in IB because when he first came in this school he got no english learning at all and I find this unfair because the previous school where I passed my primary and middle school was an Italian School with not many English hours a week and other subjects were in italian language. And I found a lot of difficulty entering to this school too and asked for some help too but maybe it's to late to tell to my school about in what school i was previously.... and they will not accept excuses I think.... Do you think will I have good news or bad news? My headteacher only said to me in the email that my grades were disappointing and at this time I don't have an IB package. Then I answered that I'm going to take an appointment and said to them that I was desperate. They replied to me that: I don't have to worry and they will sort something out on Tuesday. So returning to the point: Am I passed or not? I truly don't know it yet... it's so confusing, I hope that I passed and could be able to resit gcses on November on the most important subject. What do you guys think? I can't calm down until TUESDAY and i've been waiting for so long...... It's my dream to complete school, I always think that I can make it and i'm confident with people too... I never go out and passed my summer at home, preparing for the IB .... i'm officially stressed....
  11. Yes I studied economics before... I really like this subject but didn't do fine on my last exam. So I'm worried that my school wouldn't accept me to do economics higher.... And no, mandarin is not my first language really, i'm chinese and I was born in Italy. I only speak chinese with my mom and so I know something about this language and I can also write of course.
  12. Hello, this is my fist topic on this forum. I will be starting my IB program in September. Next tuesday i'm going to school and make sure to let teacher see the subjects i've choose to study, I've chosen: HL: -Mandarin B because i'm chinese and it's my native language -Art because i want to become a stylist or enter to the fashion world -Economics or Philosophy (I still don't know which is simpler because i have no idea, so can someone suggest me?!) SL: -Math Studies (i'm not the smartest in Math and I'm happy to join this type of course) -Biology (i got the highest grade between chemistry) -English Literature & Language I want to study to enter for a Fashion and Design Marketing University/academy maybe in China. Are these types of course ok? Or do I have to change to a more challenging one? I feel confident of what I chosen as well... Will they accept this type of package to enter in the University's I'm interested?
