    May 2014 Results thread

I don't think it is worth it as I got 69% and the next boundary in Bio was 70%, and my IBC told me it was no use to send it in. Also she said that there was no use unless you were like 1-2% off to get to the next grade :/ However it is all up to you and you should do what you think is the best! I also felt like the English B grades were very strict this year, as when I looked at examples receiving high grades (7s) in the course book they looked much worse than what I have been doing. Nevertheless I got a 6 and I am happy with that, but my WA was given much less marks than what I originally expected. Anyway, good luck when it comes to whatever you decide to do, and congratulations with your results!

I am sooo happy for all of you! I got 37 and I was predicted 35 so I am quite happy! However, the two subjects I got the lowest grades in (Biology HL and History SL) were very close to the upper grade boundary. I got 69 for Biology while 70 was the next grade boundary for a 6, is it worth the shot to try having it remarked? I doubt it is worth it as Biology is a science subject, but it would be cool to get a 6 If both History and Biology would have gotten the higher mark I would have gotten 39, which to me is amazing! The highest score at my school was 40 last year, and nobody had ever gotten a 7 in Math studies (yes I know it's terrible) and I had never imagined to get a 7 (!!) as I was predicted a 5 in the subject! I am so incredibly happy!! Also, I think most psychology students last year ended up getting 3's and 4's at highest, and I managed to get a 6!! And again, I am sooooo happy for all of you We did it and we are amazing!

How do you keep motivated to revise?

Thank you, I'm definitely gonna try this! I ended up falling asleep over my history books, so the nap advice actually happened naturally to me... Going for a run now, hope you all are doing fine
  4. Hello! I am very tired of revising all day long, and I just need some motivation. So I was just wondering, what keeps you motivated? There is only two days left of exams but it's like my entire body scream no when I try to read something.

I think this is what we all need

Thank you for sharing this, it made me smile! Hope everything is going as good as expected and good luck with the rest of your exams

    Biology HL TZ1 Paper 1 & 2

Omg you were so lucky! Seems like your timezone got everything I had actually studied, hope you all did great TZ2 was a bit boring and not what I had focused on.

I said that too...only I wrote vasorestriction, so hopefully they'll credit that I first wrote vascoconstriction and then i wrote vasoconstriction, in the same answer, wops, hope they will be nice I don't know, but I put autosomal recessive

oh yeah i wasnt sure about this one either, im not sure but i think i said hydrolyse ATP It said in active transport so I didn't chose diffuse through as this doesn't require ATP, therefore I chose the same as you but I wasn't sure either

but it said identitical, it cant have been meiosis 2... there are 4 different end results, im pretty sure its mitosis only, although crossing over does not occur all the time there is random orientation and stuff going on, there is that joke in the biology book about the twins looking alike... dry humour Wiii, awesome, but I asked my teacher and she was like "that's wrong". But in meiosis 2 the sister chromatids separate and those are supposed to be identical if it's not for crossing over and such stuff? Well if your teacher told you so :/ genetics was never my strong side... but i mean the genetic chapters talk so much about there being an INFINITEE AMOUNT OF VARIATION 2^23 and all that, 8mil combinations in just the random orientation part, and then adding crossing over, and yeh, i dont know but i feel mitosis is right I think that both should be accepted, because it kinda depends on how you interpret the question. If you consider everything that might happen you will chose only mitosis, but if you just look at the occurs most frequently (which the best student in my class pointed out should be the right way, and the teacher agreed with her) you will pick both mitosis and meiosis 2.

i said it could have a layer of fat underneath the skin and thick fur man :/ i was thinking of that too, but then pressure was on me, i was first thinking oh it can have hairs stick up.. but then i thought no hairs dont work in water maybe, and then i thought what if it gets really fat, but there is nothing i can remember in biology about fat insulating heat, your answers sound better though than shivering... I wrote about vasoconstriction and shivering as both of these are mechanisms we are supposed to know in the part of homeostasis, at least it made perfect sense to me when I was writing the exam But whatever, what's done is done! The learning outcome is 6.5.10 Explain the control of body temperature, including transfer of heat in the blood, and the roles of the hypothalamus, sweat glands, skin arterioles and shivering

The question about DNA being the same in paper 1, I totally messed that up, because I wanted to answer mitosis and meiosis 2, but then I thought about crossing over and then the DNA would not be the same in meiosis 2, but all the other students in my class said that since this does not happen all the time it should be mitosis and meiosis 2. I just picked mitosis though...

I said autosomal recessive, but yeah, I was so tired and really not focused at all. i just said autosomal do you think they'd still give me the mark or does it have to be autosomal recessive?am i the only one who found the third graph really confusing? the one about depth and temperature difference

    Biology HL TZ2 Paper 1 and 2

Well I think you have to mention both, but who knows, I will cross my fingers, if it is autosomal recessive then it must be autosomal so why not haha Also I don't mind it being the rough ER, I'm just scared as the best Biology student put Golgi...

I think you are in TZ1, but just have faith in yourself You probably nailed it! Yes its TZ1 because they're in America. The last question on the TZ2 paper 1 was about pregnancy BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER WE ALL NAILED IT Totally agree, we have made it through and WE ARE AMAZING! High five to everyone
