  1. Hey guys, I'm a month into Year 1 of IB and I just wanted to ask about the specific requirements to get into software engineering/computer science courses in the US and Canada. I currently take HL Math, Physics, Econ, and SL LangLit, Chinese, and CompSci. Would it be possible for me to get into good engineering programs e.g. University of Toronto, Waterloo, or McGill without me taking Chemistry? Thanks!
  2. Hi guys, just wanted to ask a quick question, do colleges really prefer English Lit over English LangLit or would taking either be fine? Thanks!
  3. Hi guys, As I'm currently in the process of choosing my IB courses for next year, I was wondering what are the main differences between SL Lit vs SL LangLit in terms of the actual course and assessment? There seems to be a general consensus that a 7 in SL Lit is near impossible and that LangLit is the logical choice. However, I have heard that universities prefer students who have taken SL Lit. Can someone please verify this? For context, I'm a STEM oriented student taking Math, Physics, and Econ at HL and I am not sure whether taking SL Lit would take too much time off these already difficult subjects. Thanks!
  4. So over the next week, I have to choose my IB subjects and I am having trouble picking my HLs. I plan to study either in the US or in the UK with my main career paths being business and finance or computer science as I am not entirely sure yet. Because of this, my subject choices could look like this: SL English LangLit SL Spanish B H/SL Econ H/SL Compsci or Chem H/SL Math H/SL Physics Now the question is, which combination would leave me open to taking finance or comp. sci./engineering in university and if the workload of taking all 4 at HL would be too much. I am not entirely sure of the specific uni requirements but if someone could help me with this too then that would be great. Thanks!
  5. Hi guys, What is a good IB subject combination one can take if I plan on studying either economics/finance or computer science/software engineering (still not sure yet)? Preferably one that opens up opportunities for both career paths. English Lit SL Mandarin B SL Economics HL/SL? Physics HL/SL? Math HL/SL? Comp. Sci. HL/SL or Chem HL/SL? Thanks!
  6. Hi, just stumbled upon this thread and I have a few questions regarding my subject choices. So for uni, I plan to take either econ/finance or compsci/software engineering. Here are my current IB choices: HL Math HL Econ HL/SL Physics HL/SL CompSci SL English Lit SL Mandarin Questions: 1. Is it fine if I take IB physics and compsci but not chemistry if I plan to take compsci/software engineering for uni? 2. Is Econ HL required if I want to take econ/finance/business in uni? If not, then I would rather take HL Math, Physics, and CompSci. 3. Is taking Math, Physics, CompSci, and Econ all at HL worth it to leave my choices as open as possible? If not, which subject should I drop that will least affect my chances of getting into the aforementioned majors ( compsci/software engineering or econ/finance/business)? Thanks a lot for the help! I also plan to ask my guidance counselor for their opinion on the matter.
  7. 14th of November the candles shall be blown! Approx. 1 month left!
  8. So my nickname TheNikawi... when I was younger, I was really into gaming and my dad used to call me Nikawi so I used that as my game tag but it was taken so I add the 'The' and I have used it ever since in most of my social sites! Thanks!
  9. 1. What is your real name? I am Joaquin 2. Where are you from? Filipino all the way! 3. How did you find out about IB Survival? Searched up AP then learned about IB then IBS came. 4. What made you register on IB Survival? It was the only forum I saw solely dedicated to IB so I thought might as well 5. When did you (approximately) register here? If not mistaken, a month ago I think. 6. What is your favourite IB subject? Have not yet taken the IB but it seems that many people find Economics interesting... 7. When are you graduating? May of 2019 8. What are your plans for university? Either MIT or Stanford with a degree in compsci/business 9. What are your free-time hobbies? I enjoy reading, playing tennis, listening to music, making music (sax player here!), movies, and anything that's fun! 10. If you could change one thing on IB Survival, what would it be? I wish that we had the ability to customize how the site looks with themes or whatnot which will add a cool aspect to the site! Thanks for reading!!
  10. Funny story how I found out about this website... I was just searching up about the AP exams and then I learned about this program called IB. I found out that my school has the IBDP so I was curious about the offerings so I searched it up and there it was... IBSurvival. So from AP to IB to IBS!
