  1. I personally think that the biggest issue you might find is the amount of memorisation that is demanded from Psychology HL along with Biology HL. I personally don't do Psych HL but have friends who have complained about how difficult it is to memorise all the content (especially since you can't really understand it). However, I found that you can avoid/minimise memorisation in Biology HL by actually UNDERSTANDING the content instead of just memorising it. This doesn't mean don't memorise at all, like I don't think anyone expects you to understand a diagram, but it will make it easier to recall and relearn content a few terms after being tought it. Also, apparently the IB Biology exams are moving more towards questions that require more deduction/applying knowledge instead of recalling knowledge. At least that's according to my teacher who went to an IB conference. Nonetheless, I would DEFINITELY encourage you to do 4 HL's to begin with. It will not only develop good time-management skills in the beginning (as is necessary when you have 4 HL's) but you can always drop one of the HL's. I thought about doing 4 HL's to start with and regret it now.
  2. I am guessing that if you are wanting to investigate energy drinks, you would definitely have to narrow it down to a specific problem/aspect of them i.e affect on cardiovascular and respiratory system. However, you definitely run the risk of not having an experiment that is viable for an IA if you do not design it well enough. Also, you would want some measurable IV which I don't think would be possible in your case. I quickly found this journal article on caffeine and bacteria growth which could provide as a source of inspiration.
  3. Hey, I did my paper 2 yesterday for German Ab Initio and think that I made 7 mistakes (that I know of). I was wondering whether people know how many mistakes you can make before you either drop to a 6 or even worse to a 5. I feel like my message and overall gist was ok but I made a lot of stupid mistakes since I tried to use perfect tenses of verbs I didn't know (which was verry stupid). Thanks! P.S plz be honest
  4. Hey, I've been considering doing the BMAT exam but I am doing November exams so this means that my exams will clash with the BMAT (either on the day I have econ paper 3 and lang lit paper 1 or on the day that I have lang lit paper 2). I was wondering if anyone has gone through this and how I could solve this problem of either having to do the BMAT at night on the day I have 2 exams/in the afternoon on the day I have 1 exam. The reason I don't know which day is because it says November 2nd in the UK so that will be November 3rd in Aus or whether it will be on November 2nd in Australia. THANKS!
  5. Hey, Originally I came up with a research question for a Biology EE that involved investigating corrosion in pipes but when I spoke to a researcher at a university they said it would be too difficult and would take too much time, money and resources. They suggested an experiment investigating antimicrobial action on bacteria. But, the only thing I am worried about is that an experiment investigating inhibition of bacteria growth by different antimicrobials will not be complex enough and I will have difficulties reaching a reasonable word count. I have found a reasonably long research paper online that does something very similar to what was suggested to me, and it was relatively complex. Also, if I do investigate the inhibition of bacteria that can corrode pipes it lends itself to Personal Engagement and also Application. So essentially, I was wondering how complex does a Biology EE have to be to get an A (this is the score I am aiming for)? Thanks for any help!

Hey, Originally I came up with a research question for a Biology EE that involved investigating the effect of biofilms on corrosion on pipes but when I spoke to a researcher at a university they said it would be too difficult and would take too much time, money and resources. They suggested I do one investigating the effect of different antimicrobials on the growth of said biofilm and I culture it with the assistance of a researcher at the university. 7. Hey, I was wondering if anyone had any practice paper 1 texts that they could pass on to me? Thanks!

  9. Hey, I was thinking about doing a History EE and have thought about some preliminary topics that I will go on to research about. The only thing that might make this difficult is that I don't do History, but previous students at my school have done a History EE even though they did not do history. I was wondering how one would go about doing a history EE, and how would you go from a starting topic (i.e The Iranian revolution) to a developed EE research question? Thanks!
  10. Hey, I was wondering if anybody could provide me with any revision material for evolution and biodiversity (for example questions or worksheets). I have an exam on it in a few weeks and would like to be prepared as early as can be so I'm not in a rush but I also don't want to leave it to the last minute. Thanks!
  11. We all know there is something we think can be improved at our school. What would you improve at your school? Personally, I would like more green initiatives like a garden.
  12. Our teacher showed us an example mark scheme for a paper 1 for Lang and Lit and I saw that there are suggestions for what an excellent analysis will have. When examiners look at our paper 1's will they only give us excellent (9-10) if we mention/elaborate on those points or can we make other points that we support with evidence? Thanks!
  13. What if the coordinator is corrupted, and some people change answers before it is sent off? What happens then?
  14. Hey, The textbook that I took my notes off of (Oxford) never makes reference to paternal/maternal chromosomes in meiosis, yet every other resource that I have found makes reference to these. Do we need to make reference to maternal/paternal chromosomes in response to an IB question? I don't think they are in the syllabus so.... yeah Thanks!
  15. Hey, So I am doing my FOA for part 2 (SL) in some time, and well, I am unsure as to how to achieve near full marks in criterion A. It just looks like gibberish to me. So, what do I have to do to achieve 9-10/10 in this criterion? Our teacher hasn't really gone through it that well Thanks!
