  1. My point here was to prove that the principle of a nation in itself is discriminatory. I did say that the UK or any other nation or state is putting coal into the fire. That includes the EU as well, because even though it isn't a nation or a state, it is a union which works in a similar way in that sense. The first article you linked literally says that according to the majority of polls the dutch people don't want to hold a referendum. Yes I agree, people should have the right to decide whatever their country should be. But when the politicians make promises, such as to fund the NHS with the 350 pounds the UK sent the EU each week (which also was a lie) just to seemingly break their promise. Surely there were other more intellectual argumentations and discussions, but the fact that these kind of campaigns and advertisements exist takes away a lot of the "freedom" for some people to choose for oneself when you are manipulated and lied to.
  2. When people want to immigrate to the UK or any other place it is because they were not born there. To immigrate means that one goes to a country of which one is not a native. The general idea of dividing the world into territories between nations and states leads to the issue that one person is born somewhere and someone else is born elsewhere, which as you can think brings advantages or disadvantages with itself. So, by this principle the UK or any other nation or state discriminates others who were not born in that country by seeing it as someone who comes from somewhere else, expecting him to go through lenghly processes to immigrate. This principle is in itself discriminatory; when you expect others who weren't born in your country over which they don't have any from of decision to have to immigrate, whereas one could just freely move from one place to another. Fine, I interpreted that wrong. My point still stands that your article only points out that some right-wing politicians want to hold a referendum, which doesn't necessarily reflect itself in the population.
  3. The article you linked to doesn't explain that many people across Europe, and as you put it "the Dutch especially" want to leave the EU. It much rather goes to show that many eu skeptic politicians express their opinion and tell the people that they should also hold a referendum. I'd argument the quite opposite. When there is the possibility that people can move freely between nations, why take it away? Yes, not the whole world can benefit from it, but at least some can. Threating everyone the same way might give everyone equal opportunity to go to the UK, but so what? Equal opportunity does not automatically mean that you are less discriminatory; if you say the EU requires you to be discriminatory against non-EU nationals, and go on to threat everyone as non-EU nationals you aren't less discriminatory, you are discriminatory to the whole world, since you threat everyone the same way except the british population. It is also worth pointing out that many of the "Leave" arguments were straight out propaganda or based on nationalist ideas. I also agree with Sandwich - the british economy will not benefit from it.   4. Hello! Universities often want proof of my linguistic abilities from a language exam for example. Can I use my IB diplome as proof? For example I had French B, that means it should prove that my french is B level. And my second language was English Language and Literature - does that mean that I am a C1 or C2 in English? Thanks!

    Wordcount in essays?

    Hey, I wrote all my essays in open office - HOWEVER I realized that the word count open office shows me includes the numbers in the main body that refer to the footnotes, at least I think so. I'm not quite certain about it, well anyways, I wanted to ask if someone knows with which program the IB checks word counts of essay, so that I could find the actual number. Also, where does one put the school number and candidate number in the essay? In the title page, or as a header in every page?

    h hum Thanks! However I think our teacher is mixing our parts together because there is pretty much no analytical essay that we took for WT2. I'm very confused, not sure what to do.
  9. Hello, I did my Written Task 1 on the gaming debate, where I wrote from the perspective of a pro-gaming magazine article writer. I wanted to show a different perspective to the perspective and minorly how communities are created, how language in magazines are used, etc. For my Written Task 2 I started writing a film review on a movie - pretty much a normal review. There is not a lot one can vary in a film review, but can I just write a normal review on a movie? Do my topics fit the parts? I can't tell myself because my teacher didn't say anything but changes her mind whenever she feels like it..
  10. Hello, I searched a bit for books on the internet and came to the conclusion that it does cost quite a bit. So the question came up: How many books do I really need as source material for the EE? What is the limit, the mininum? Honestly I do not know if I will use all of it (9 books in the sum), they do seem as good material though. On what should I pay attention to when searching for secondary literature, books, etc.? I have the same problem for the WA - listed 5 secondary literature right now, hesitant to buy them though because we haven not dealt with the book yet but it seems very interesting (Albert Camus, the stranger) and the other two books that are for option do not attract me very much. Still, if the oral discussion won't go smoothly / good it will be a problem, since I have bought the books but (probaly) won't have a good topic to work on. Should I not mind the price and just go for it? Side-question: I haven't determined what topic I will choose for the EE, made a suggestion to my teacher but changed my mind and want to change it. Neither have I signed the formula for the EE, so I am guessing it will not be a problem? BY THE WAY: The reason I am not just waiting is because I study in a country where getting source material is very hard (in english or german), for the time being however I am in the EU which is why I want to get some books before I leave.
