You know you are an IB student when...

Agree! You know you're in IB when getting more than 5 hours of sleep on a school night is considered a blessing from above.

    blurt random lyrics out!

Sixteen years, without even a place to call my own But ill dry my tears looking for a place to rest my bones All these years- but never changed the one that I have known And despite my fears- I'm sure that i can make it on my own. Party, Drugs, and limousines Oh mama this is killing me Im half the man i used to be. o-oh Tequila, lust, and gambling Oh, mama, I need rescuing what sixteen years has done to me 16 Years- The Griswolds

    Individuality vs Traditionalism

By ignoring the noise. It's very difficult to put into words just what a racking toll IB takes on sleep or social life, as I'm more than sure you know by now, and most regular students, my parents, even college students really don't get how difficult IB is. For that measure I don't waste my breathe explaining...call me discriminative if you wish, but if they don't have the work ethic or mental capacity to handle IB's workload, then chances are they can only associate it to public high school honors, which is like a nap to us. They couldn't understand no matter how hard they have tried. In terms of college, all that matters in that regard is the campus at which you are most comfortable, so if it is with your friend then so be it. These are your formative years as an adult, so be true to yourself, instead of caving to external authority. In any regards, you may do better at this lower rank university. At the end of the day, the value in the education comes from the value of the professor, and you may get a better education in a community college than in a secondary university, because the strength of the professor builds up you, not the "prestige" or "tradition" of a traditional 4-year post-secondary university. You also have to factor what you intend to major in as well, not just the overall rank of the school, but how strong that specific department you plan to major in is. Good luck and I hope this helped ease you a little bit. As one of my dear friends once explained to me: IB is a triangle in form. There are three sides to this triangle: sleep, social life, and work. It is imposiible to choose all three; we often find ourselves sacrificing one in the benefit of the other two.

    Teacher's responsibility in the IA's

The IA is more of a hands-off approach to running a design lab. IB is truly looking to see a personal connection to your IA, they want it to be more than a "have-to-do" (not like it's my first choice either but). They want demonstrated interest in the topic and/or a personal connection to your exploration. The focus is taken off of how the teacher can push you, but of an assessment of your practical lab skills. If you have a textbook, try flipping through the chapters, seeing topics that pique your interest, and you can also build off of past labs you may have done (not the exact same topic, but something in a similar vein to it). It would be wise to keep the experiment simple in terms of how many manipulating factors (IVs) or measuring factors (DVs) you have because it will be a necessary evil for you to run between 5-10 trials (in case one trial messes up, or something goes wrong in procedure, also reduces error, and provides even more data to support your hypothesis or reject it). Hope this helps
  5. So I'm getting ready for a difficult organic test and one of the few things I still don't understand is how one can predict the products of a free radical equation, such as: Cl* + CH4 = CH3* +HCl More specifically: How did the Methyl group become radical, and how did Cl drop its radical?? What method do i use to predict products in a free radical equation?? Please help

    Electro/nucleo-philes

I remain confused as well. It was described to me as either an electron rich region of density (nucleophile) or electron deficient region of density (electrophile). So would this be referring to the species as a whole as "nucleo/electro-philic" or to the areas surrounding the bonds on the species, for example, the bond area around the H+ in the HBr species?
