  1. Hi everyone, I am wanting to begin writing my extended essay and get the majority of it done in the week before school goes back. I am going to be doing my extended essay under the subject of Visual Arts and l am having difficulty choosing a specific topic/question. I have two ideas that l am keen about and l actually believe that l could incorporate psychology into both areas of research. Do l need to include a second subject into my extended essay if it is applicable? The two topics/questions are: * To what extent is art therapy healing for the mind, the spirit and the body of an individual? And * The art of propaganda and how it is manipulated by political parties The first question l found off a website offering ideas for visual arts extended essays. The second one l came up with myself. I'm not sure which one to choose and so l was wondering if someone could offer me their opinion. Also, if anyone has any advice on the extended essay in general and how to approach it and all that, that would be much appreciated. Thanks xx
  2. Hi there, I am currently working on my Mathematical Studies IA that l have to get done before the school term commences and l am experiencing a lot of difficulty. For my IA, l am looking at the potential correlation between Secondary School Gross Enrollment Ratio (for both male and female) and a country's GDP (Gross Domestic product - basically how much a country earns/how rich they are). I will be doing this for my Pearson's Correlation Coefficient. For my chi squared test of independence, l will be looking at Unemployment Rates and again, GDP. I have gotten my data from the world book (a resource that offers all this statistical data for each country). In total, l have obtained data for 96 countries and l have been told by my teachers that this is enough data. I have formulated my data into a table which l will include in an attachment in this post so if you are able to check it out and let me know whether it all seems ok, that would be great. After collecting all my data, this is about where it stops. From this point onward, l have no clue on what l need to do and l am really stressing out because l need to have it completed asap. Some people were telling me that l need to calculate my chi squared and get the expected frequency table and make sure that all the numbers were above 5. I honestly have no clue what all this means. I would really appreciate it if someone could offer me some help. Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks heaps xx Maths Studies Data.docx
  3. Hey, I have my TOK presentation coming up really soon (the transcript is due on the 20th of November) and l have my topic but that's about as far as it goes. Basically, l'm looking at something the along the lines of "Should there be a tax on junk food?". I haven't developed a knowledge question yet or knowledge claims and counterclaims and all that. I don't even really know what they are. I was wondering if someone could explain it to me and give me advice and help on how to develop a knowledge question and claims and all that as well as how to structure and write the presentation because l honestly have no idea how to start the presentation or what to write. I'm feeling really overwhelmed and lost so any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
  4. Thanks for replying! I have a topic - l've chosen the novel "Eat, Memory - Great Writers at the Table". It's actually a collection of essays from the New York times and it's all about food and people's different experiences with food. Currently, my question is "How do the barriers of social class limit the food experience?" however, l will probably rework that. And my thesis is something along the lines of "The role of food is directly linked to financial and social wealth" - l will probably rework this too. I've pretty much written the whole thing (except for introduction which is what l'm working on currently), however, l need to go over and edit the whole thing yet. Basically, l'm just stuck on how to make my presentation creative. I don't want to include a powerpoint as l don't see how it's going to benefit my presentation in any way. Thanks for the tip by the way!
  5. Hey, So, this whole forum posting thing is extremely new to me but l thought it would be worth it if l'm going to get any useful advice out of this. My IOP for English A (HL) is coming up soon and l have come up with my topic/question, as well as a brief start to my thesis and my two main points. However, the area l am struggling most in is writing the actual thing and what approach to take. I've started writing about my first point as l didn't know how to start the introduction. After briefly explaining my first point, l have no idea what to do from there. I know that the IOP is mostly about detailed analysis and appreciation of the writers choices and all that, but l am honestly terrible at identifying literary techniques, let alone understanding the intention behind their use and the effect it has on the reader. If anyone has any tips or advice on anything to do with the IOP, please let me know as it'd be much appreciated. Thanks! x
