  1. Considering the grade boundary for a 3 was around 25 points last year it is unlikely that it will increase more than maybe around 27-28 points
  2. I do SL, but the paper seemed ok. First question was about elasticities of commodity prices which I managed to screw up a little. Question 2 was based economic growth which again was rather easy. My mates doing HL seemed satisfied enough so I dont think they got the most diddicult paper. Hiigh grade boundaries are likely.

  5. Paper 1 was difficult, but not too bad. Paper 2 was ok, but there always seemed to be one question in every set that I could not answer properly.
  6. Hmm I see. The thing tht surprised me the most was that the trend was nearly linear. As I was decreasing the ethyl ethanoate concentration, Kc increased linearly with it.
  7. Thanks for the help. The amount of ethanol cannot be calculated easily from the experiment I performed, but is instead deduced through the mole ratio with ethanoic acid (1:1). I didnt observe two layers in the quilibrium solution as far as I can remember. I will discuss your suggestions with my teacher to see if I get anywhere. Again, thanks for the help
  8. The equilibrium constant has been calculated correctly, this I have confirmed with my teacher. Acid (HCl) is used as a catalyst for the reaction as the reaction is extremely on its own (hydrolysis of ethyl ethanoate). Therefore a fixed volume of HCl is added to every trial. This means that when performing the titration at equilibrium I get the total acid which consists of HCl and ethanoic acid. TO find ethanoic acid, which is one of the equilibrium values I had to calculate and subtract the total amount of HCl from total acid. Regarding OH-, I am not sure if that could have had any effect.
  9. The solutions were left alone for two weeks and should reach equlibrium already after 48 hours. I was measuring the total amount of acid in the titration using NaOH.
  10. Unsure if this is the right place to ask this, but I have a result related problem for my IA. My topic is calculating KC for the hydrolysis of ethyl ethanoate, with titration as the chosen method. The concentration of ethyl ethanoate and water varied between different trial, but as the equilibrium law states only temerature should affect pH. However, when I calculated Kc for the different trials I ended up with five quite different values where the general trend as that Kc decreased as concentration of ethyl ethanoate decreased. I have no idea why this happened....is there any chemistry gurus out there who might know what can have happened?

  13. I see, our teacher recommended having only one KQ and that is what I have so far. My knowledge question is: What are the underlying causes of disagreement? Do you think this will give me enough content for my essay?
  14. Thanks for the answer! It seems like our teacher is most keen on us choosing either ecology or physiology. She has completely neglected option B due to lack of equipment and A does not seem to be a strong alternative either. Personally, I would like to do physiology as I cant bothered to learn more about plants haha. In addition I thoroughly enjoyed the chapter about human physiology so I am assuming option D is just a continuation of that?
  15. We are approaching the option stage of our biology curriculum. What option topics would you consider? What topics are the most manageable and/or interesting?
