  1. Hello, I am finding it difficult to decide which science subjects to choose and would appreciate some help and guidance. First of all, I am not entirely sure what I want to study in the future (perhaps economics, although the sciences really interest me too). That being said, I am sure about studying in the US. I have done a summer course in IB biology (also math which I am fairly well at), also had a brief look at the content that appears in IB physics. I have no prior background in chemistry however. These are my subjects in general: Economics HL English HL Science HL Math SL Ab initio SL Science SL I want to pick 2 science subjects, one at HL respectively SL. 1. How is physics HL? Is it the ‘broadest’ science in terms of future studies? Does it differ largely from SL - is SL in that case quite a bit easier? Easiest / hardest topic? 2. How is chemistry SL? I am not to keen on HL, and have heard that SL is easy. Easiest / hardest topic? How do you study for it? Is it quite mathematical? 3. Lastly, is biology HL much more difficult compared to SL? Is bio SL pretty much the same level as chem SL? In case I take bio and physics - is that a weird combination, from universities perspective? Since the subjects don’t overlap that much at all..btw, which subjects do overlap the most and would this ease study? Here are the combinations I am considering: Physics HL + Biology SL or vice versa Biology HL + Chemistry SL Thanks in advance! Also, please do share any additional insight/your experience with the subjects besides from my questions.

    Paper 1 Tips??

@Djsporting Could you please send them to me as well? I am kinda lost when it comes to paper 1 so I would really appreciate it
  4. Hi guys! I've just entered the IB DP1 programme, and I am taking English Lang & Lit HL. I am actually quite surprised with the amount of literature we'll be doing in the course as I'd though it would only cover like 50%. Anyway, I was wondering wether you guys could share some insight on the subject and give some tips on how to score well in it. PS. I'm not a native speaker - it's my second language but I'd say I am nearly fluent.. I am also doing another language A (langlit), so bearing that in mind, will the two be too hard to juggle? I hardly read that often but I am good at essay writing.. and I am pretty sure I'll find the lang bit very interesting as it's in a way related to sociology - a strong interest of mine.

How much would I approximately need to study to get high marks with the following subject combination? English Lang & Lit HL Physics HL Economics HL Bio SL Math SL Swedish Lang & Lit SL Also, kindly give your thoughts on these subjects.

@avalinelegato Thanks for answering! I rather appreciate that you were able to cover many of my questions with detailed information.

    IB subjects

Hey! I'm might entering the IB curriculum starting this week, so I would appreciate some response regarding my IB subjects; English Lang & Lit HL Economics HL Physics HL Math SL Biology SL Swedish Lang & Lit SL After thorough consideration, I personally figured out that this may be a reasonably challenging combination with a balance of essay writing and problem solving. However, I am concerned about me being prepared for the subjects academically. 1. English is not my first language, however throughout the years I've always attained a good grade in as it's been one of my stronger subjects. Being nearly fluent in writing and oral communication, is it possible to get a good grade in it even though I'm not a native? 2. Is Physics HL mathematically too hard if I take Math SL? From what I understand, physics is more about learning new concepts and applying them to problems using math as "support". Am I wrong/ is it solely based on math at a higher level? 3. Is Bio SL an easy/hard subject? I've decided on Bio SL though elimination of the remaining subjects I don't enjoy. I also believe that it'll maintain the rigour of my combination (as it's respected by colleges), but in a "less challenging" manner. I've also had quite some experience with the subject, hence why I believe parts of it will be more of a repetition. 4. Is it too hard to juggle two language A courses? Swedish is my first language and I've always been pretty good at in school so taking it isn't really a question for me- (But if you guys have had this subject, please share some insight on it's difficulty, content etc). Also, I'm assuming that the two Lang & Lit subjects go in line with each other since they're the same in terms of structure. Won't that make it easier, considering that I can do similar work in both subjects, only in different languages? To sum it up, I would be very thankful if you can answer as many above mentioned questions as possible + give me some general tips and insight on the subjects I'm taking (like how you find the subject etc). Thanks!!

And is it quite possible to get a good grade in Math HL provided that I am an average student in Math but willing to put in a decent amount of time+work into it? I don't LOVE maths but I find it okay and once I understand things I like it.

    Subjects

Is this subject combo good enough if I want to study econ at top uni's in the US. Econ hl Bio hl english l&l hl Swedish L&l math sl physics sl I want to keep my options open, hence why Im doing bio and econ hl. will it orherwise suffice for ivy's anyway? Is it too "all over the place" and unclear or does it show that i am well rounded+ "strong" in many areas? Btw, are there degrees which combine econ and bio (or just science and economics) as I am inclined towards both areas. Do you have to declare / mention your major when applying to Us colleges? Is math HL required for ivies econ? thanks a lot!!

    Final score

@Merril889 I meant the "final" score for the specific subject. So if I got 7's on ALL the IA's in say Biology, and a 5 on the External Exams in Biology, what would my final score in Biology be?

If one gets 7's on the IA's and 5 on the External exams --> what will the final score be?

@lovinpeople Oh, okay - thanks for the update! Anyways, I see you have English A language and lit. HL - How is the subject based on your experience, what's the content etc? Is English your second language?
