Language B EE - viva voce

Hey there, So basically I've done a French B EE and my school wants to conduct the viva voces but they do not know what language I have to conduct my viva voce in as I am the first ever student to do a Language B EE. Would anybody happen to know if I have to do it in French (the language of my EE) or in English (the language my exams will be conducted in)? As you can see, I'm in a bit of a sticky situation and would REALLY appreciate some help. Thanks in advance!
  2. Hey there, I've finally decided on doing an Extended Essay in French (Language B) and have set my heart on looking at the following works: - 'L'Etranger' by Albert Camus (book) - 'Lacombe, Lucien' by Louis Malle (film) But I just need a little help in narrowing down my focus and would really appreciate some help from you guys. So far, I've come up with the following: - Comparing the characters of Lucien and Meursault (first I will carry out a character analysis of the 2 characters and then compare these analyses) - Proving that 'Lacombe, Lucien' is an absurdist work (first I will look into the features/characteristics of absurdist works and then find evidence within the film that supports my argument) I'd just like to know your thoughts on the above and whether I can even do the above in my EE! Thank you
  3. Hey there, Let me just cut to the chase - I have my EE proposal due within this week and I have a rough idea of what I want to do However, at the moment, it's a very general idea and therefore it's not very clear/focused so I was hoping I could get some help from you guys! Since I'm doing a Language B EE (in French), I naturally selected a novel to look into which in this case is 'Les Belles Images' by Simone de Beauvoir. Now something my supervisor and I came up with was to compare feminist literature in Europe with feminist literature in Asia, around about the same time (40's to 60's). My question is can I simply compare the 2 novels or would that no longer be a Language B EE? Or should I simply look into an aspect of the French book itself? If you guys have read the book or have any ideas as to what I can do - you don't need to tell me the an idea word for word, but I would just like a direction - I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks again

    Help with subject choices

Sadly, I'm not allowed to do History now Apparently our school's new policy is that if there is no DP teacher for an EE subject, DP students will not be able to do that EE. But thanks again for the input!
  5. Hi guys, I'm in my 1st year of the DP and we're going to be doing our IOP in January - so far we've done 'The Great Gatsby', 'De:TALES' and 'In Praise of Shadows'. Right now, I'm thinking of doing a presentation on how Tanizaki (author of 'In Praise of Shadows') portrayed the Japanese way of life similar to that of the way of life which is recommended in Heidegger's 'Sein und Zeit'*. I was also thinking of doing a presentation on the difference of the perception of beauty in 'The Great Gatsby' and 'In Praise of Shadows'. I'd really appreciate some help! I'm indecisive as hell and my English teacher isn't really helping me out... *I feel as if I would lose the literary nature of the presentation through this Thanks in advance

    Help with subject choices

Hi guys, I'm in my 1st year of DP and our EE coordinator told us to start writing up a proposal for our EE. Now I have a slight dilemma with my subject choices: I really want to do either History or Visual Arts, however, there is an issue with both of them. History: I want to pursue a career in History and I was going to take it up as an IB subject but since we do not have a DP History teacher, I did not - would it be wise to do an EE in a subject that it is not a subject of mine and has a MYP supervisor? I would like to add, though, that I really do like History. Visual Arts: I'd like to look into art history but again we do not have a DP V.A teacher therefore it is not one of my IB subjects - would it be wise to do an EE for the same reason above? Furthermore, the MYP teacher that is available is not really adept in the English language and I feel that would affect my grade. As a backup, I have English literature, however, it's not really my favourite subject... All the same, I'd really appreciate some feedback! Thanks again
  7. Hi guys, Basically I've just started DP 1 (it's my first week) and I decided to change my subjects up a bit, therefore I have chosen the following subjects: HL English French History SL Maths ESS Physics I'm not weak in Maths thus the SL and furthermore, I didn't choose a second humanity (despite the fact that I am hoping to pursue a career in history) because I simply don't see how Business Management and Economics can help me out (and I hate Geography). So, I was just hoping for some feedback from you guys: do you think it's a a good subject combination?
  8. Hey guys, Basically I'll be starting the DP this September so I was just wondering if someone could help me out with my subject choices. For my undergraduate, I plan to do the Classics or Classical studies in the UK or USA and I have decided to do the following subjects: HL Subjects - English (language and literature) - History - French (language acquisition) ITGS SL subjects - Mathematical studies - Environmental sciences - Physics I couldn't make up my mind between physics and chemistry since I like them both but neither will be of any use in the future to me but all the same, I would greatly appreciate some feedback. Thanks again

    Help with Art e-portfolio

Hi guys, I'm a MYP student in Pakistan and I'm having a bit of trouble with my Art e-portfolio. It clearly states that the maximum word limit is 2000 words and the page limit is 30 A-4 pages. However, on the next page of the guidance book it offers some recommendations on how we should structure our portfolio. For e.g, task 1 should be of 10 pages and have 650 words with only 5 images. Do we necessarily have to follow this because I have 1000 words in task one, very few words in task 2 and three and 400 words in task 4. This totals up to 1650 words. Would this not be marked by the IB? Do I have to structure it out like the IB has told us or is it alright to have your own format? I would really appreciate some feedback since my deadline is next Monday. Thanks again, DJ PS- I asked the IB but they didn't get back to me
