  1. Thank you for the advice! I'll try to find some more recent examples to reference.
  2. Well it has been a couple months since you posted this so it's likely you've already made your decision by now. HL Visual Arts is a really great course and you don't need to be good at drawing to do well. IB focuses a lot on your artistic process and the ways in which you improve over the course of two years. Also, you don't have to draw if you don't want to, you can experiment with photography, watercolor, painting, installation, sculpture, etc. I'm even doing glass blowing for part of my Art portfolio so I think you would do just fine in the course.
  3. That's exactly what I needed to know, thank you so much!
  4. So, I'm doing my EE on a topic within the visual arts and I'm close to finishing. I noticed many of IB's example EEs have abstracts in addition to introductions but my supervisor hasn't said anything to me about adding an abstract. Is an abstract necessary and is it included in my word count? (I don't have much room left and I don't want to exceed 4000)
  5. I just finished reading that book in my IB Spanish class! My advice is to look at some example essays in English Literature and look at how they format their research questions. Focus on figuring out what you're arguing the magical realism does for the novel. For example, does it help bridge the cultural divide, express the character's feelings, offer a unique view of the character's world, exaggerate exact plot points or ideas, or provide comic relief to balance out some of the story's more depressing elements? Here are some examples of how you could format your question once you decide what to focus on. How does Laura Esquivel use magical realism in her novel Como Agua to portray/convey _______________? TWE does magical realism play a role in ____________ in Como Agua Para Chocolate?
  6. I don't think COVID-19 will be very prevelant in EEs this early on, so you're probably good with that aspect of your topic. It seems like you have some really great connections that will make your essay strong (with the opportunity for interviews), my only advice is to make sure that your essay will be structured to focus on the economic/business aspect of this situation and be sure not to dip into the sciences and the virus too much in that sense. Good luck though! It seems you've found a subject you're really interested in and passionate about.🙂
  7. Your question sounds good right now. You might need to get a little more specific but my advice is to do all your research and tweak your RQ as you go. I think you have a strong starting question though, just don't be afraid to alter your stance along the way. 🙂
