  1. BUMPING I need this help, urgently! I now know that I have a chance to change my topic, subject, and supervisor. I am not contemplating changing subject much, because I really love Biology, and the other subjects don't really appeal to me. But if I really had to, I would change to Chemistry or Economics, because anything is better than my current supervisor. Please give me feedback on the EE topic I posted earlier! I'm feeling a bit edgy about it because: - I would have to perform the experiment over the summer, of course, because growing these seedlings will take a lot of time and I need a HUGE amount of data. - I'm not sure where I would grow them... I live in an apartment that is barely big enough for my family, let alone a horde of radish seedlings. I don't know if the school is open either, and I don't know if I'm traveling anywhere. The fact that I constantly need to be around these plants might be a problem. - About testing the concentration of the fertilizer: Should I test the concentration of an actual brand, like Miracle Grow or something? Or should I get pure nitrogen or something relatively similar and test concentration of that alone? I have more questions, but they're on the tip of my tongue. PLEASE, I NEED ADVICE!

Which Biology Options do you take?

For Biology, Evolution and Ecology. We didn't really have a choice. Since our teacher specialized in that section, he assumed we would enjoy it as much as he did. Yippee. And I really wanted to do ANYTHING other than that. We still haven't chosen Chemistry.

    Martial Arts

I used to take karate. But my teacher was abusive. :'( And the place I learned at was a money-making scam. Not worth it, so I quit. I got 16 hours out of it though.

    All-nighters & procrastination!

I don't do allnighters... I'm worse than that. I'd rather consider myself have "slept the night" than stay awake to do something. Therefore, I may go to sleep at 11:30 to 12:00, set my alarm to 3:00 AM, and pray to God that I don't sleep through it so that I can finish my Portfolios or study for an exam.

    Anti-Procrastination Methods

But if it's not ADD...then what could it be? I've got an EE idea! Does the frequency of ADD in IB students have to do with procrastination? I guess it could be improved... and would it be Biology? ...or Psychology?

    Anti-Procrastination Methods

Well, I could throw my computer out of the window. And possibly go to a doctor and get checked for ADD...I think it might run in the family.

    How do you write them?

Actually, I think it would help if I told you what portfolio I'm doing... Hehe. I'm doing the "Matrix Binomials" one. Do you recommend the portfolio be typed or handwritten? Typing gets tedious, especially with matrices. I was asked to use different values of a variable to calculate several equations. I chose three variables: 1, 2, and 3. And since there were 6 different equations, that added up to 18 workings. Do I need to type those all? X( I'm frustrated because I am asked to find a method to express M^n in terms of aX and bY. I found this method algebraically. I tested its validity by using different values, like I was asked. But then it asks me to use an algebraic method to explain how I arrived to this statement! Was I supposed to guess the method before, according to what I found when I substituted the variables? I wish I could take a look at the examples, but I'm not VIP.

    Sources for articles

Personally, I think the hardest part of starting a commentary for your portfolio is finding a decent article. The fact that all articles have to be from different sites doesn't help. Here is a list of sites I find my articles on. I hope this helps. BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk Wall Street Journal http://online.wsj.com Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/ New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/ Wahington Post http://www.washingtonpost.com/ Please post others! I could use some.
  9. A while ago, we were asked to choose our topics for our EEs. Since I was in such a hurry, I thought of something, but I sort of regret choosing it now. I wanted to do something along the lines of: "How does fertilizer concentration affect the growth of radish seedlings?" I do Biology HL. I was thinking about measuring the growth according to Leaf Area Index, but wouldn't measuring height be simpler? Also, I think I'm going to have to look for a specific fertilizer...like something nitrogen based. I'm sorry to say that I don't really know. I'm worried that it is too simple of a topic. What can I do to make it a little...tougher?

    How do you write them?

Ok, before anyone bites my head off, I want to say: I AM NOT ASKING FOR ANY ANSWERS OR YOUR PORTFOLIOS I am not even going to mention what portfolio I am doing. EDIT// Actually, I changed my mind. I'm doing "Matrix Binomials." Hehe. All I wanted to know was what is the format of a Math Portfolio? I want to know how to write the coverpage, if it should be in MLA format, double spaced, etc. Our teacher was considerate enough NOT to tell us this. I've heard there should be an introduction and conclusion. Is this basically a summary of what the portfolio is about? I've searched all over the internet for the answer to this, and found nothing. I guess the people who know the answers are the people who have done these before. Looking forward to your replies.
