  1. well, i see some point in what you are saying, but the thing about TOK, is that there are many angles of a question. to me the question states that with the way we use our vocabulary can identify us, and show us a way to our future. language can be shaped by us, we as people are the ones who make up new words, and new ways to communicate, and if we are fully aware of what we say and show, then the right message will be transmitted. it is like saying there is a four legged feeling drinking water. you don't specify what it is hence the wrong message can be interoperated, but saying there is a cat drinking water; it is different you are communicating something fully. simplifications can be more accurate, but when using words with a large vocabulary not a lot of people may understand you, and this isn't a fault way to communicate it is actually the person on the other end who is not on the same level as your vocabulary.
  2. Hello, my advice: read your A1 books. the list can be taken from the english teacher at the school you are going to. do a background check on the subjects you are willing to take in IB. it's a good start for you. Good luck sabreen
  3. People’s choice of vocabulary can assist in the following: 1- Knowing if the person is educated (use of words) 2- Knowing how to use a LARGE variety of words to express our emotions. 3- Whether that person’s personality is positive or negative. By using his choice of words. 4- Pompous words can show just how educated you are (measure). Limiting our vocabulary: by using words such as lol, lmao….. etc. How does it affect the younger generations? if this increases, then how would the world end up in? words are dying out everyday. They limit us to a certain point. Where we wouldn’t be able to express who we are, and what we want. If you look at books, then you can notice that out time has gone from famous writers such as Paulo Coelho, Agatha Christie, to authors such as Justine Bieber?? and Stephenie Meyer. With all do respect but what they write is hardly considered literature, and what is sad is that most of the younger generations are in love with them. My definition of vocabulary: our own private dictionary, collected by us throughout our lives. As we grow older and learn more we store even more words in our mind, this increases our knowledge and wisdom, because then we are able to express ourselves by using different words. good luck

Social Life + IB = impossible?

LOL i'm loving the link on JonathanSpencer's comment so, i'm done with my IB and looking back i'd say i did fairly well, and i had a decent social life. i managed to balance my bf, friends and family and my studies. the only times in IB where you will be cut off, is a month before your Mocks and Externals. i sat down and studied really hard for them but i still found time to enjoy a bit of every day. so go with a schedule it'll help... good luck

    Nuclear power

i 100% agree with Sandwich!! WIND POWER!! soo, i wont argue against the benefits of nuclear, but i really think it's doing more harm than good, it is dangerous look at what happened in Chernobyl in 1986. it might not have cause instant deaths but it does affect the life span of people. the biggest problem they face is decommissioning. because these days the nuclear plants are designed to live for a 40 -60 year; operating very well and generating lots of energy. now the problem would be in the disposal of these plants, you cannot just bury the whole thing under ground. and the the waste products they release still exists, ya they may be sealed and buried in safe locations but still, nothing is certain, there is still the possibility of leakages that may occur and contaminate land and bodies of water. and the most thing i don't like about it is their use of nuclear weapons. i think it would be better to have less nuclear plants, and more of wind, solar, and other types of renewable energy sources.

    Please help :(

in some schools such as my own, before we enter IB!/IB2 we have to qualify for the subjects by taking tests after year 10. if we do fail in the requirements then the coordinator wouldn't allow us to choose that subject. in the case of Maths, well yes they can stop you from taking HL, but i don't think they can stop you fro doing SL. try talking to your coordinator and come up with a solution. first of all they are doing that because from what you show them you wont be able to pass SL or HL in the future. so you may ask them for a re-evaluation, or at least to put you in probation for SL in year 11. good luck

Why should I take Maths HL?

okay so first of all, SL isn't that easy, you need to give it practice, and some time. the difference between them is HL is more advanced and there are more topics, which means more practice and more time. so if what you want to study in the future a field requires advanced maths then go for HL. yes it is hard. but those 2 bonus ranks will help you out a lot. HL gives you a slightly better advantage when it comes to university, my IB coordinator says for the university it's better to get a 5/6 in math HL than a 6/7 in SL. good luck!
