  1. i so so agree with avident...do it only because....I have regretted it. I realized the college I wanted to get into I could have done doing A levels but...Now nothing I have to give my exams..the social suicide; the mental pressure. No activity; I gave up on music, painting, reading all because of IB. Always a regret But I also cant' deny the fact that I had learnt of lot of lessons of life through IB.
  2. Hey everybody. I'm an IB HL Film Student at an international school in Mumbai, INDIA. I have to make a 7 minute movie as a part of my assessment. I have an idea ready which is kind of mediocre. My project is individual and I'm directing. I have developed an idea of threat in a cafe around it. I kind of don't feel strongly about the project. And sadly my school doesn't realize the fact that creative ideas take their own time! As in the role of a director; I had this idea to give some other better ideas a listen. I thought there might a better plot worth filming that what I had conceptualized. SO, Many of you who would like their ideas to be filmed please post your ideas here. If you feel you ideas need to be discreet in the forum then please mail me at _______ (Mod edit: No email addresses, there's a perfectly good PM system on the forum) My school has decent film camera; locations nearby bombay city can be explored and lighting crew will be hired. So a lot of resources are available and can be explored. Biggest downturn is the time limit (7 minutes including credits) and the deadline (December 2009). I have Final Cut PRO...and a MACBOOK PRO ( I'm proud of it). There are no restrictions about the characters. But as IB suggests; no profanity; no foul language; nudity etc blah blah blah. Thanks.

    Film Studies?

Well I have taken film studies, the classes were very active in the beginning but in the second year they have become a bore, although some are very enthusiastic, But i hate to say that our teacher lacks required knowledge to conducts classes, But it seems we will survive (hopefully). But One thing is for sure, with films you learn so much more that films, its a great and easy grade, but also a wonderful way to explore the untouched areas. And yeah, we are the only school in india with film. Hoping that they will certainly improve in future, but its not like we haven't done anything, we went so see sharukh khan's movie Billu barber's shooting on sets. it was an amazing experience, also we've had some workshops with industry professionals.
  5. Creativity - interpreted broadly to include a range of arts activities as well as the creativity students demonstrate in designing and implementing service projects Examples might include: working in the school play or on the yearbook; designing posters and flyers for fund raising events; Christmas Carol singing for charity, taking parts in UN conferences and Model United Nations, starting your own little clubs for creativity in school ( which also serves for service component) playing or learning a music instrument, Archery, Making decorative stuff for school during festivals, participation in school choir, participation in student council, preparing and speaking in a debate club, .... and there are endless number of activities for creativity hope one of the above suits your needs. cheers. gud luck
  6. Dont worry, I was in IGSCE, but it won't make much of a difference if you have an interest, taking HL and SL however is a big decision cause SL is way too less of syllabus. But you won't have certainly no difficulties dealing with the subject. And your teacher advises u right. so gud luck if u do decide to take it.
  7. Hey you are thinking on the right track but as some others said too broad, since u r comparing the book and the movie, u need to be very careful, the literature rulez dnt go for movies, i'm a IB film student, you need to read "film studies" teach yourself guide to get through the movie and ofcourse you know what to do with the book, then I think things might seem more interest and a lot easier for you, also it will add wieghtage to ur research aspect. Hope this helps. Gud Luck wid it.
  8. My English teacher does'nt reccoment the usage of first person narration in the world lit essay, you could maybe use the readers in case of poetry/prose, or the audience in case of a play/drama. Hope this helps!
  9. Ohk... This post seem to be a bit of an ego issue for everybody. I didn't copy paste my "excuses" as mentioned by one of the members, it was edited by one of the administrators. Other thing, I'm done with my TOK presentation with a score of 19 and yes the topic was not given by anyone but my original idea (Morality & Vegetarianism, if anybody is curious) , so it is not like I am a lazy person who wanted all of you to do my work for me, I was just looking for ideas, and I asked everybody from my friends to family and I did the same by putting up a question here. Someone could have politely refused if they didn't want to help, giving me unnecessary advice on what I should and should not do is completely uncalled for. I'm at the top of my class and this community has been disappointing for me for the first time. But thanks anyways for whatever "suggestions" were given. Thank You.
  10. Hey since you have chosen MICROECONOMICS, why don't you do it on the elasticities, I mean something like does the demand of ICE Cream fall on price change and other factors such as season, consumer tastes and behaviors, apart from that I don't think there is any scope, You could look at demand and supply. Hope it helps. Gud Luck!!
  11. Well you could look at the brands when it comes to the Cafe at the town center. Are certain people brand loyal, or in particular preference? Then what kind of coffee, the hot selling item, since you are comparing the two, you could look at all that, Also you could prepare questionnaires to study the behavior if price or other factors changes. I'm doing Demand of Coffee at a particular cafe for my EE. The idea is if you keep a journal then you can track your progress and try and contact the cafe people, it proved helpful for me. Good luck with it. Regards.
  12. Well the book by Dan Ariely is helpful people so cheers for Xelar, and Yeah, I'm also looking at different locations Adoran, One coffee place was in a Mall there was competition just upstairs, But brand loyalty played a big role. Moreover I plan to do some questionnaires regarding the preference and demand patterns, that would certainly be useful I guess, I find it amazing that other IB students are Doing something along the lines of My EE Topic. Great. Thanks.
  13. Thanks, DeStijl, that is what I intend to do, My TOK presentation topic was teenage relationships and social stigma, I had done a lot of ground of work and preparation with my partner. The problem is that it does not just feel right for both of us about this topic, talking to our TOK teacher, she said we can still change it, so I thought I just post it here to get some ideas for a head start. I have done deceptive advertising but again it is drifting away from the point is. And I apologize sweetnsimple786, if you thought I was asking framed statements for TOK Topics, then you might have mistaken. I was just expecting some ideas about general tok ideas or anything of that sort to help me come up with a topic. But anyways thanks. Abortion became unrealistic as clinics were unable to provide info. Thanks to both of you anyways. I think I'll do some read up of the newspapers and see what comes to mind. But honestly, I think the idea is something that will just strike me, I have done a lot of brainstorming, but nothing and I cannot do mediocre work, so I'm waiting for that moment. Thanks again you guyz.

  15. I think you should keep in mind the texts for your world lit, then decide something that is prevalent in both the texts. That;s what helped me. I did Medea and doll's house, so I thought both have lead female characters betrayed by their husbands, in very different ways and that leads both of them to abandon their children, so there was my essay topic, motherhood in both the texts. It is a comparative study by the way. Hope this helps you.
