Further Maths

They can be fun too! Well...advanced sequences...maybe... I think some Linear Programming is already in Maths Studies, actually, and they dropped Conic Sections from the Geometry module of Further Maths (so maybe they're reintroducing it).

Further Maths

I heard Linear Programming would be a new module. Maybe they'll expand some of the existing modules (quadric surfaces in the Geometry module, as an extension to conic sections; more distributions covered in statistics?). Sounds cool! I agree!

Further Maths

probably because IB wants to stage a Further Maths HL that may be coming up in the future... This seems to be the case! "Further mathematics SL, to be a replaced by a new Higher level mathematics course, possiblycalled Further Mathematics HL. This new course to be modeled on the existing Further Mathematics SL course." - International Baccalaureate - Diploma Developments

Further Mathematics Discontinued?

Cool, thank you very much for the info. -

Further Mathematics Discontinued?

Yeah, me too. I see. Shame there, too! Wasn't the Euclidean Geometry/Conic Sections option included along with the other options in Further Mathematics? Interesting news! Linear Programing, sounds interesting...I hope they still include Conic Sections...assuming they included them already...an appreciation of Euclidean Geometry and Conic Sections are very useful for physics! - xP

Further Mathematics Discontinued?

Thank you, deissi. Were all the sources you heard it from within OCC (or from someone who could access them)? I'm not currently being taught the I.B., so I don't have a teacher who can check. Just wondering if there was any documentation outside that.
8. Heard some rumours about the Further Mathematics curriculum being discontinued i.e. Further Mathematics being scrapped as a subject, wondered if it's true. Also, is there any literature on the rationale behind 'Euclidean Geometry and Conic Sections' being removed as an option of Mathematics HL? Thanks.

How many people in your Maths class?

8 people in my SL Mathematics class, but I think we were all people who had dropped from HL, where there were about 15 by the end.
10. Hey, IB mathematicians. First real post, w00t! - I was just wondering if anyone knows, is the Geometry section of Further Mathematics the same as the (removed since 2004 curriculum) 'Euclidean Geometry and Conic Sections' Mathematics (HL) option? Well, not exactly the same...I mean, covers basically the same areas, like bisectors and conics.

Interview: Who are you?

2. Where are you from? Herts, UK. 3. How did you find out about IB Survival? Google. 4. What made you register on IB Survival? I wanted to get info on the Further Mathematics Syllabus. 5. When did you (approximately) register here? Just yesterday. 6. What is your favourite IB subject? Right now - Further Mathematics. 7. When are you graduating? Graduated in 2004. 35 points! - 8. What are your plans for university? I went to Bolton University to study Computer Games Software Development (graduated this summer, got a 2:1, w00t!). 9. What are your free-time hobbies? Playing/analyzing Civilization (IV); studying/contemplating the Enneagram. 10. If you could change one thing on IB Survival, what would it be? The limits on what can be downloaded.
