    TOK PRESENTATION HELP!!!!

Hey so I am working with a partner on my tok presentation but we have no idea how to get started it on it. We both like the topic idea of 3D printing of organs but don't know how to make a KQ on it or how to approach it. We really need help and would appreciate, thanks!
  3. Hello, I am strongly considering writing topic 6 for my TOK essay, I have my 1st draft due on 21.11. I liked this topic since the very beginning, although I was very cautios when choosing it. To be honest, I also considered topics 1, 2 and 4. 1 and 2 seem quite easy and I am aware that lots of IB students write them this year. Topic 4 is quite difficult and ambigious, even though my teacher tried to explain it to us, and that I felt it may be quite a good topic to write about, I am still strongly for topic 6. I am planning to choose natural sciences and philosophy as AoKs. It seems like a problem to me, however, to find the KQs. Well I'd find 2 or 3, but I am not sure, how much of KQ should I include, since the topic actually is focused on KQs. Any thoughts? Is anyone of you writing the same topic? Your reflections on it will be highly appreciated, as my TOK teacher was not good and I feel really insecure about the essay and the presentation I'm having in December.
  4. Hey! Does anyone know when the Prescribed essay titles for 2017 come out? Or if they have, what they are? Thanks Any help is appreciated

    TOK ESSAY HELP!

I recenetly started on my TOK essay after choosing question number five: Given access to the same facts, how is it possible that there can be disagreement between experts in a discipline? Develop your answer with reference to two areas of knowledge. I am simply wondering how many knowlegde questions it is normal/appropriate to discuss during the length of the essay. Any advice is highly appreciated :)
  6. Hey to whoever is reading this, So my chosen prescribed title is “Humans are pattern-seeking animals and we are adept at finding patterns whether they exist or not” (adapted from Michael Shermer). Discuss knowledge questions raised by this idea in two areas of knowledge. The problem is I don't know what this question is asking me to do. Do I have to come up with two KQs and for each of them talk about my two AOKs chosen? For example one of the KQ is “How do we make ethical decisions?” and with this KQ I link it to my two AOKs which are Ethics and History? And for my other KQ I talk about Shared and Personal Knowledge in pattern seeking for example and again talk about it linking it to Ethics and History? I really am confused please help. I would really appreciate your help.
  7. This is my practice essay title for my first IB year. I understood what this question is basically asking. But what AOK's can be used here is something I've been racking my brains for. I suppose Math is one area but what specifically? In natural sciences? What factors ascertain the difficulty of the knowledge produced? What does "produced with difficulty" mean? What can the claim and counterclaim be for this title? Maybe i actually haven't understood what this question is asking for... Help please!

    TOK Presentation Help!!!

Hey, I have my TOK presentation coming up really soon (the transcript is due on the 20th of November) and l have my topic but that's about as far as it goes. Basically, l'm looking at something the along the lines of "Should there be a tax on junk food?". I haven't developed a knowledge question yet or knowledge claims and counterclaims and all that. I don't even really know what they are. I was wondering if someone could explain it to me and give me advice and help on how to develop a knowledge question and claims and all that as well as how to structure and write the presentation because l honestly have no idea how to start the presentation or what to write. I'm feeling really overwhelmed and lost so any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
  9. Hi, I'm currently having difficulties in creating my knowledge question for this title. The prescribed title is "Should key events in the historical development of areas of knowledge be judged by the standards of their time?" I created the knowledge question of " What role do ethics and emotion play when judging historical events?" I feel like it's not related enough to the prescribed title as it should be, but I really have no idea. If anyone could help confirm whether this KQ fits into the prescribed title, it would be greatly appreciated!

    Can I drop TOK?

Hye guys,, im so confused right now if I should drop tok or not.. I mean,, im taking first year of IB certificates, some of my senpai said i don't really need TOK. Is TOK really benefit for my University later? What happen if I drop it? I'm still working hard for my CAS though. I think i should be fine if i drop it
  11. How can I develop a knowledge claim or issue for my IB TOK Presentation? My knowledge question is How do personal and shared knowledge influence the process of artistic creation ? And my subsidiary question is "At what point does inspiration become plagiarism?" With that being said, my topic is Plagiarism or Accusations of Plagiarism. One of my real life situations is the case of Kaavya Viswanathan, whose book, How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, and Got a Life, had been withdrawn for questionable similarities to other authors work. I want to connect this RLS to the idea of Cryptomnesia–a form of memory bias, or in other words a non-deliberate form of plagiarism. How could I develop a knowledge claim and counter-claim that works in tandem with these? And are these claims supposed to connect to another RLS, or am I to provide separate claims for both? I am really just looking for any sort of guidance. Thank you.
  12. Hello guys, So my partner and I are doing our presentation under the Arts, and our RLS is about 2 different experts review the same movie, but give out different opinions. (Citizen Kane) and our Knowledge question is to what extent is an experts judgement objective? Do you think this is ok? Because we want to do something about objectivity vs subjectivity and the popularity of movies affecting the opinions of people.
  13. Hey, everyone! I'm in IB1 right now and have my first ever presentation soon. Since its the first presentation of the year, we were given a research question by our ToK teacher, which is: How do different Ways of Knowing interact in the Area of Natural Science? My partner and I chose "reason" and "language" as our WOK's and I will be exploring reason, and the are of natural science is astronomy, specifically Newton's Law of Gravity. My question is, how in the world do I connect reason to Newton's Law of Gravity? Language seems pretty straight forward, but I just can't wrap my head around reason... Any, and every, help/advice is greatly appreciated in advance. Thanks x

    Good TOK KQ and claims?

Hey guys, I'm presenting my TOK presentation soon, very nervous... my question is to experienced IB students or anyone who has done their presentation. How do these sound? My knowledge question is: To what extent is visual art an accurate portrayal of reality? My claims are: Visual art tends to be more emotive Visual art is subjective whereas reality is objective If something has no meaning, is it still art? Of course, I'll bring in TOK terms and discussions into these. How do these sound so far? I'm quite bad at TOK so I really don't trust my judgements on what's alright and what's not. Any other advice about the presentation is much appreciated! Thank you!

TOK, EE, and CAS in UCAS

Was wondering how you get predicted grades for tok, ee, and cars before the UCAS applications. Do the teachers give you a predicted grade based on your assignments in TOK and the progress on your ee?

    TOK Essay

Our TOK teacher is not a teacher, he has no idea what TOK is neither do I and my whole class. The TOK Essay is due in a month and I have literally no clue of exactly what to do with the TOK essay. Is it like a normal essay? How do I use the TOK terms? Do I make an argument? Do I need a knowledge question? Do I need to cite everything I say? Like personal knowledge or shared knowledge? And yes, I'm concentrated during class it's not my fault that I don't know what to do. I've read many guides and sample essay and I still don't know exactly what to do. Plz help. THANKS!
  18. hi, I'm a fellow ''IBBER'' and I had a question. So I wanted to do my presentation on WikiLeaks. In general how does the format of the presentation look like, so next to the knowledge question (if someone could help me formulate one, would be great because I still don't understand them), and the real life example of Wikileaks and ways and areas of knowing , how do we set up our presentation? Do we introduce the topic? then say a couple sentences of the question and then go to the areas and ways? Our teacher never really told us to do them and how they should look like. I am shooting for a 7-8 score wise...

    Reflective statement

Hey people, I have this reflective statement from TOK due Tuesday. We have to write about a speech that we watched in class. I really don't know how to construct a reflective statement for TOK. What do I need to include? Do I need to provide my opinion on the topic of the speech, or do I need to write about the AOK's and WOK's that are present in the speech? I'm really confused.
  20. I'm confused as to what I'm supposed to do with my TOK Essay and searched up some sites that could help me with it. I came across this site called IB Mastery, a Tim Woods blog or something and it offers a TOK Essay Mastery Program. It only costs 14.99USD per month but I want to know if this is a sham or not. URL is attached below. https://checkout.newkajabi.com/offers/zR9YEFEU/checkout?checkout_token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJvZmZlcl90b2tlbiI6InpSOVlFRkVVIiwic2l0ZV9wcm90b2NvbCI6Imh0dHBzOi8vIiwicGVyZm9ybV9sb2dvdXQiOnRydWUsImV4cCI6MTQ3NjYxOTkwNn0.VOtCRLnjEiNgGrHikX5LsGKS2XsNtHpYW8faSlSpgTs

    Contacting Students

Hi people, for a TOK project I´m required to contact at least one student from every continent except mine (namely Africa, Asia and Europe, since I´m from America) and ask them some questions about how they were raised with respect to a specific topic. If any of you could help me that would be great. Our team has Asia and Europe down, but we really need to make contact with someone from Africa. Thanks!
  22. I can't completely understand what is Knowledge Claim and Truth Check, so could anyone explain it in detail? There's going to be a quiz and I'm so worrying about it...

    TOK 2017 What is this

2017 IB'ers, Was I the only one that stood 5 minutes looking at the new TOK prescribed titles and felt as empty as a waffles chips pack? Seriously, am I the only one that, comparing with the previous year's titles, thinks these ones are even more vague and intricate? Teachers usually say: look at them all, chop off 3 right away, consider 2 and keep one as the back up plan. Honestly, I did not look at any that would inspire me to write 1.600 words. 5 and 6 are, lets say, the ones that I would see myself doing, though all of the others belong to the "right away chop off" category, which is kinda bad... Has the same happened with you? Which do you find the hardest one(s)? Or is any of you feeling inspired with these themes? If so, could you briefly discuss the key topics that you think are important to consider for each one?
  24. So after completing the MYP program last year I'm finally being introduced to the IB program. I don't know anyone personally well who has done the IB and some advice would be great! I personally love school and academics, only it does sometimes give me bad anxiety half way through the year. These are my classes: Psychology HL Spanish SL TOK Language an Literature HL Environmental Science and Systems SL History HL Mathematics SL Some studying, organization, and supply advice would be great. Any links that personally help you would be nice as well as advice on how to deal with stress OH! As well as how to handle CAS and your whole workload, since they aren't giving us a limit on how many hours we need. Thanks loads if you do respond
  25. Hey guys My TOK presentation is coming up in a few days, and I've got my knowledge question, RLS and all of my arguments in order. I just had a question about the structure of the actual presentation. Is it ok if I start off with my perspectives on the issue (after describing the RLS and KQ)? I just feel that this would be a better way to introduce the arguments I have. Thanks in advance!
