  1. Keeping in mind that UCAS only lets you apply to 5 universities, I'm trying to figure out whether it will be worth applying to Oxford for Experimental Psychology; or in other words, do I stand a chance? I'm quite aware that my IGCSE's are sub-par, however, personal circumstances in Year 11 meant that I did not perform to the best of my ability. Considering that my IB predicted score proves that I am capable enough to manage at Oxford, does it make sense for me to apply? And if I do apply, will writing an Extenuating Circumstances Form explaining my low grades in Year 11 affect my application negatively (I've heard rumours that it does)? My IGCSE grades: English Lang A* Math A* History A* English Lit A Biology A French A Economics B Physics B Chemistry C IB Predicted Grades: Biology HL 7 Economics HL 7 Psychology HL 7 English SL 7 Math SL 7 French SL 7 Overall 42/42
  2. Hey guys, So I, like quite a few of you out there I'm guessing, took the Thinking Skills Assessment for Oxford yesterday. I just wanted to touch base with some of you who also took it, and see how you found it? I'm quite worried about it. Looking for reassurance
  3. Hey guys I'm studying IB (year 1) now in Denmark. I am considering to apply to Oxford physics (Merton College) next year, and my higher level subjects are Math HL, Physics HL, Chemistry HL. It says that A-level Further maths would be good; but IB's can't take this? And my school doesn't offer (IB FM HL, which according to my teacher only 70 people take in the world). Would I be at a disadvantage for physics simply because I do not have the possibility of studying FM? What if I make up for the relevant parts of the syllabus that is not covered in Math HL? Besides, I study physics RATHER intensely in my spare time...

    Oxford

Hey all, just wondering who is applying to Oxford out of you lot. I'm applying for physics, so hopefully I have a fighting chance of getting an offer. The other universities that I'm applying to are UCL, Manchester, Bath, and Southampton, and I just got an offer from Bath . If anyone has any interview/ PAT test tips that would also be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
  5. Hi guys, I just got my results a few weeks ago. I know this sounds crazy; I have a total of 33 from the core - still pending the remarks though. I decided to spend a year in china to improve my chinese skills (did chinese ab.) after that I'd like to read Oriental studies at Oxford. Now I know, that my grades are much lower than what they reacquire, but do you think it is still worth giving it a try? Thanks

    Oxford tips?

So, I'm applying to Oxford at the beginning of this coming year. A huge decision I have made, with the problem that I'm not very confident. I have my last year planned and am determined to do well and meet the minimum requirements, but I know that's only half the marathon. Is there anyone out there that could give me tips for the application to Oxford? Tips for the interview, TSA, personal statement, and so on. Any advice would help. I'm applying to other universities, so I'm not making the mistake of only applying there, but it IS my main focus. It would mean so much to me if I got in. Thanks in advance!

    Oxford OR Cambridge

Someone told me that you can apply to either Oxford or Cambridge, never to both, at undergrad level. Is there a reason for this? Moreover, will they find out if you apply to both now that your other UCAS universities are not revealed to universities you've applied to? Also, how do you decide which college to apply to? Which are the best for law? They all seem super! Thanks! Erudite.
  8. I am a good student I think with some work I would even be eligible to study at Oxford / Cambridge, but the problem is that I can't afford to pay the amount that they demand. So I started looking for scholarships / financial aid programs, but I didn't find any. The closest thing I've found is the student loan, which I really wouldn't like to take. Then I decided that maybe there are smarter people out here who have already found the answer to my question, and came here . So, do you know any oxbridge scholarships / financial aid programs for European IB students? scholarships / financial aid programs for European (I'm from Finland) IB students? Or do you know for a fact that such things do not exist?
  9. So, my end goal is to be working in corporate law. Originally, I was planning to study a more academic-based undergrad degree in the UK (such as Oxford's PPE or UCL's ESPS), and then study law at graduate level in the USA, however the more I think about it, the more I'd rather do law in the UK and then do an MBA in the States. However, one thing that's worrying me is the fact that I have no work experience in the legal field. I've heard conflicting reports on this topic, but the general consensus seems to be legal work experience is highly desired for law applicants. Being a November 2012 session candidate, it's impossible for me to undertake legal work experience between now and my UCAS applications, so my question is: how much will this lack of legal work experience hurt my chances? For reference's sake, the universities I'd be looking to apply at, in no particular order, are as follows: - Oxbridge (yet to decide which - any opinions on their respective law programs would be appreciated) - Durham - LSE - UCL (hoping to make it into their LLB/JD dual degree - what are my odds like? How many of their students normally apply for this program?) - Either Warwick or Edinburgh (opinions?) Advice would be appreciated.
  10. Are the IB summer courses as good as they seem? Anyone gone or going? Oxford/Cambridge etc... Anyone kind enough to share ??
  11. IB subjects: English A1 SL Spanish ab initio SL Economics HL Biology HL Maths SL Music HL TOK: Ethics EE: Music Applying as an international student - I'm from Australia. I'm predicted a total score of either 44 or 45, and have plenty of extracurriculars (which aren't really relevant to the course I'm wanting to take). I've been debating for my school for 5 years now, and I've had 5 days of work experience at a law firm. What are my chances of getting into Law at either of the universities? I'm not too familiar with the LNAT, so assuming I don't do so well on that. And, just out of curiosity, what are my chances for an Economics degree?
  12. Hey guys Is there anyone who bought the OUP French B Study Guide/Course Companion? I'm planning to buy one but I don't know whether I should buy one or both. Also, what's your opinion on the OSC French Study guide?
