  1. I’m a little conflicted about choosing which subjects to take as higher levels. My school forces us to take English and History HL, so I basically only get the option of one other HL. That will probably be Chem, but I’m also considering Math HL. Because of my school’s requirements I’ve been considering taking 4 HLs since I hesr that colleges don’t often look at SL classes. I’m a straight A student, but I struggle with time management a lot, and I realize the commitment I’d need to make. Not sure if I’m making any sense here, I’d just appreciate some advice on deciding, maybe some perspective from people taking/who have taken 4 HLs? Thanks!
  2. So, I think it's past the 24-hour period for both paper 1 and 2, and would like to hear other people's opinions on the math papers. I personally think paper 1 was considerably better, and paper two was more difficult. But I have heard very varied opinions on both papers, and kinda wanted to see the general view of their difficulty. Feel free to comment anything you want, (as long as it is about these papers xd) Strmblsd
  3. I’m trying to decide the subjects to pick for my IB studies next year. Biology and chemistry hl have already been decided as I’m trying to get into medicine. My current placeholder of a choice is studying psychology hl, maths sl, and language A lang and lit, and ab initio Arabic (on top of bio and chem hl). I honestly don’t know if it’s a good idea to study three sciences (yes, I’m counting psychology) at hl! I didn’t get to study psychology during my middle years as my school didn’t offer the subject, but I’m really interested in the subject. Am I setting myself up for misery and anxiety ridden nights before and after the exams or is the combination that I’ve currently chosen feasible enough? And by the way, does an ab initio second language count as an SL subject and bear the same grading weights or am I supposed to study an extra subject??
  4. So I am working on putting together notes on Bullet point 15: Versailles to Berlin: Diplomacy in Europe (1919-1945) and I am really struggling to find good resources to base my notes on. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  5. Hello guys, I need an interesting bio hl topic for my IA. I was thinking about something connected with allelopathy, for example, planting mint and cucumber near each other and measuring how the cucumber is affected, maybe adding different temperatures so it wouldn't seem so easy? or something with essential oils and how they affect the growth of different plants but I don't really know which I could choose. What do you guys think?
  6. Hello! I need to make my subject selections for DP soon and I'm kind of conflicted between taking Business management or English Language and Literature HL. Consider that I'm already taking double sciences (Bio and Chem) HL, and I was initially fixed on Business HL but I'm scared it will be too much. Can anyone tell me which subject would be more tolerable to be studied with double sciences HL?
  7. Hi all, I just wanted to know how difficult it's going to be for me to study and succeed in IB. I'm currently studying in grade 10 and I'll most probably start studying according to IB's curriculum next year. I'm currently studying the Holt McDougal Modern Chemistry, English Literature/writing, Biology, and Phyiscs. The McGraw Hill Algebra 2 on top of social studies, Farsi literature/writing and Arabic. I find all of the subjects I'm studying relatively easy (except Farsi. Even though it's my mother language), and I aced all of my finals last term. But I'm kinda stressed to be studying IB as I have no idea about the difficulty level. The hl subjects that I'm gonna pick are biology, chemistry, Farsi and English (I have no idea whether it's gonna be A or B; it's mandatory to study Farsi and English hl at my school) I want to study medicine and I looked at dozens of university admission requirements for the said course; most of the universities I'm interested in require a minimum of 6 in bio hl and chem hl on top of an overall score of 38/45. As I said, I just want to know how much energy I'll need to exert on my studies and how difficult it'll be to meet the mentioned requirements. Your insight would be appreciated! Edit: Do I need to study physics as wrll to get into medicine? I'm already picking Math sl so not sure how that'll work.
  8. Hi...I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I know I'm going to be studying sciences in university, but I'm not exactly sure what type of science I'm getting into. It's a bit stressful because I have my own preferences, while my parents' disagreement with these preferences make me scared to the bone. I know I want to take Chemistry at Higher Level, but my problem is between biology and physics (+ computer science, but I'd rather NOT get into that.) at HL. You see, I'm studying MYP right now and so far I really enjoy Biology and find it very interesting. As discussed with my careers counsellor, I could take my bachelor in Bio OR Chem and then take my Masters in Biochemistry, which I thought was a great idea because it is two subjects I enjoy (to a certain extent, but I'd also rather NOT get into that). My parents don't think that's a great idea though. My dad says I'm limiting myself wayyyyyyyyy too much (like a mouse hole kind of too much) if I delve straight into my masters after my bachelor. Sure, I get that. Maybe I'll work with my bachelor in Chem for a while. But that's also very limiting, apparently, and my only option is to take Chemistry and Physics/Computer science to get a bachelor in engineering. Except I dread Physics/ I'm not-so-great at it. And I've heard it's a death wish to take it at HL if I'm not ready to put in the effort or enjoy it to the fullest. News Flash: I'm not! (As for computer science, well, I'm not very sure because I've never studied it, but I'd assume I wouldn't be fascinated by the unduly amount of numbers and problem solving that seems to give high-paying jobs all around). The thing is, I'm not going to get into medicine. Not a doctor or radiologist or pharmacist. And Biology is practically a dead end to my parents, very shameful, if I don't want to be a doctor (which, I repeat, I DO NOT). I'm trying to cooperate with my parents by going into sciences (trust me, it's not my first choice), but I'd like to at least do something I like (to some certain extent). However, it seems like unless I get into computer science or Physics (engineering, really, is assumed to be the only job that'll get you some bucks here), I won't be successful. I've been told it's best to cry now and not later, but I'm not sure if that's necessarily true. I think if I take Physics and end up being an engineer I'll be crying 'til the rest of my days. But, at the same time, why should I trust myself? I'm a kid and puberty and hormones and total ignorance makes me rethink my choices in taking Chemistry and Biology at HL. Should I just take Physics and Chemistry and cry in a Ferrari? Sorry for the rambling. I appreciate any and all responses.

  10. Okay, so our biology teacher is a noob and we need help. She doesn't know what she's doing at all. She gives us the same tests that she gives her standard biology classes and we haven't covered the whole book at all. What do I do? I know for a fact that whatever she does won't help. So how do I save myself? What can I do to teach myself one of my least favorite subject? Please help me. I am dying and I don't want to fail.
  11. Hi! I take German B HL and sadly my vocabulary knowledge is pretty narrow. So I need tips for studying vocabulary. Our teacher doesn't give us vocabulary lists or other materials for idioms etc. So first of all, I need a vocabulary list. Does anybody have a recommandation. Maybe a website or a pdf document? I would also appreciate any other studyp tips for learning new words. Thanks!
  12. How do I make sure I get into Cambridge? Even if I don't get the required grades?
  13. Hey, So I have been doing HL math for about the last 6 months of so, and I have done Topic 1, Topic 2, and Topic 3, and I more or less understand the topics, but the problem is when it comes to tests or quizzes I dont know how to attempt these questions, its like I have never seen them before. Can someone guide me on how I can study and learn these question as I am about 2-3 grade points under where I want to be. Thanks.
  14. Hi people! I am constantly getting a 12 on my Paper 2 practices, but am failing to reach that 7. I think the reason for this is my structure, and how it needs to be improved so I can write more coherently and tighter (if that makes sense). I was wondering how to structure my introduction and body paragraphs. For my introduction, I have been taught to primarily define the key concepts, give context, and then offer my thesis. The problem I have is that my definitions become to formulaic and choppy. I don't get a nice flow to it. I also don't know precisely what I need to define. If anyone have any pointers, I would to hear some on how I can tighten up my introduction. For my body paragraphs, I am very confused on how to organize my evidences and evaluations; and how many I should include. Should I state Evidence #1, and evaluate it? Then after that state Evidence #2, and evaluate it? And finally do the same for the third? The problem I have with this is to I fail to come up with a flow and being able to link all of these in a fluid format. This is my main problem; how to organize my evidences in my body paragraphs. Thank you for helping me or the time you took to read this. Kind Regards, a fellow IB Survivalist.
  15. Hi So I'm currently in the middle of drafting my final IOP for english HL for a poem by Bruce Dawe "Doctor to Patient" I've discussed with my teacher and we've bounced ideas around; so far, I'm planning to present my IOP as the character of Bruce Dawe's doctor, and present my response poem to my "prop" (classmate) before kicking them out, (trying to showcase the "laziness of the unemployed" that Dawe blames in his poem) then to begin the analytical part of the iop I would conduct it over a fake phone call, where the person on the other line is asking why I would write something like this in comparison to Dawe, then I would say "Well what do you mean she's done this? it's clearly because of ..." etc etc. I'm worried about this approach because I've never done a creative iop, and I don't want it to get too repetitive? any tips or comments would be appreciated thank you!
  16. Hello people, I know I will sound crazy/weird, but is it possible to self-study HL mathematics? My school does not teach the HL math, and so I am 'stuck' with SL. I really enjoy maths and I am quite pretty good at it. Also, I want to be a chemical engineer, so HL Chem, Phys, and Math are highly recommended. I am already doing HL Chem and Phys, which is satisfactory for most of the universities, but I really feel like I should also do HL Math. Thank you for your answers
  17. Could anyone give good examples/ideas on which business to choose for Paper 2 Section C? Thanks!
  18. Can someone please grade my IA for me and give feedback. My conclusion is very weak and I feel like my explanations are mediocre. Reply if you are willing to help and I will share a link
  19. Hi guys, So we're meant to be researching EE topics, and Ive decided I wanted to focus mine on neurobiology. Ive spent a long time online trying to look for EE's that had to do with neurobiology/neurology, but have had very little success. I wanted to do this so I could get a clearer understanding of what my initial research question may be. Unfortunately, I've had almost no luck so I'm resorting to this. I would ask my supervisor, but we haven't been assigned them yet. Basically, I need opinions on whether neurobiology would be a good enough topic for a 4,000 word essay/40 hour commitment, and furthermore what specifics in neurobiology could I actually do my research on? I am not asking for people to dish out research questions for me, but rather help me formulate one myself. I was thinking maybe something to do with human reflexes (vestibular/vestibulo-ocular) and how they differ with age, or gender? I'm not too sure, and in a bit of a pickle. Our EE proposals are due soon with our desired topic, so any feedback would be much appreciated. Thank you guys in advance
  20. I have my English IOP coming up, and I'm not sure how to bring a creative aspect to my English final IOP. I'd really appreciate any tips!
  21. If I use force field and SWOT analysis, are they included in the 2000 word count in my business HL IA? HELPP
  22. Hey everyone, I've noticed that there is a lack of Theater Arts students on this website and I struggle to find help and advice for my Theater class. Today I decided to put that behind me considering I have been through a lot during my theater journey and decided it would be easier for me to just create a forum for the new Theater Arts students from 2016 onward. This forum will be a discussion point for everything Theater based from the Nov 2016 session and for the years to come (unless they change the syllabus again). Please feel free to ask me any questions that might concern you about the Theater Arts course as I am graduating this November so I've gone through the ups and the downs of being a Theater student.
  23. I'm doing HL theatre, and I was wondering if anyone out there doing their solo project or done it has used Patsy Rodenburg as a theatre theorist. She has many books but I am having a lot of difficulty finding any aspect of her theory actually linked to theatre and I'm quite lost. HELP
  24. Hello:) I basically took a test for IB Physics HL today, on Topic 4: Waves - only paper 2. The problem is, that for the last question I mistook 0.882 ms for 0.882 s, which got me the answers 0.21Hz and 0.34m/s when the real answers were 210Hz and 340m/s. I had to get the frequency before the speed, but since I got the frequency wrong in the first place the speed was also wrong, although the working process was right. I thought that I would normally get at least 2 out of 4 marks, thanks to ECF. However, I just took a look at the mark scheme and it doesn't talk about any ECF on the notes section - will I still receive 2 marks or will I receive 0..? Thanks in advance:) For the files, the question is 4. b i and ii.
  25. Hi everyone, My class is beginning to write the first section of our history IAs and my teacher said that it will be okay to revise our questions. I have to write this first section in 2 days, but I am having doubts whether or not my research question is appropriate or not. Here is my question: "Was it inevitable for the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings to occur?" I feel like the question is not specific enough and based on my research, there are so many theories that my IA could end up all over the place. I was thinking about changing it but with a topic similar to my original one, like this: "To what extent did the Soviet Union's declaration of war against Japan during World War II affect their surrender in 1945?" Could I still use my first question or should I try to revise it? If so, what are some ideas for topics? Thank you so much!
