Surviving a grade 1 in exams?

Well, is it possible? I get good okayish grades in every other subject, but I'm bound to get a 1 in math studies. I've worked hard in math but I'm just not a math kind of guy, and I've heard a sufficient grade average makes up for a 1 in math, but I've seen people on here claim a single 1 keeps you from getting the diploma. Can I get a final verdict?
  2. I have my Pre-IB french interview at Victoria Park CI tomorrow! I know how to do an interview, but can someone please tell me what they will ask ASAP! Thanks!
  3. For History Paper 3, my teacher has taught us: A bit of Topic 11 – only unification of Germany. Nothing after it. A bit of Topic 12 – Lenin's rise to and consolidation of power (I think) Topic 13 – EXCEPT "Impact of WWI on civilian populations of two countries from the region between 1914 and 1918" Topic 14 – EXCEPT "Spain (1918–1939)" and "Case study of domestic, political, economic and social developments in one European country (other than Germany, Italy or Spain) in the inter-war years." Topic 15 – EXCEPT "the wartime alliance (1941–1945); reasons for Axis defeat in 1945 and for Allied victory; role of economic, strategic and other factors" and "Impact of WWII on civilian populations in any two countries between 1939–1945" Topics 13, 14 and 15 were our main topics, it seems. But the teacher did not teach everything and is definitely not going to. Now I'm terrified that sections in the final exam could be on the one or two (!!!!) topics I haven't been taught. What if the Topic 13 section has a question on Spain and then a question on developments in a European country? I couldn't pick a question at all from that section!! What if Topic 13 has a question on civilian populations and then the question on causes of WWI (something I have actually covered) is really difficult or vague, or I don't know how to answer that question? So: is it worth learning the remaining topics in Topics 13, 14 and 15? Or maybe I should learn just about Spain and "the wartime alliance (1941–1945); reasons for Axis defeat in 1945 and for Allied victory; role of economic, strategic and other factors"? I'm considering to learn just about Spain and "the wartime alliance (1941–1945); reasons for Axis defeat in 1945 and for Allied victory; role of economic, strategic and other factors", to give myself more choice when picking/looking at the questions in the final exam AND to give myself a better chance!!
  4. Hey guys! My class recently did a few in-class Paper 1 samples, and I did absolutely horribly in them! I seem to always get the wrong main idea and impression of the poem that we get, and the teacher told me they were not convinced by the examples I used to back-up my main idea. So I was wondering! Does anyone have any tips for analyzing poems you have never seen before? I already am aware of the "Read the poem at least 3 times before analyzing" rule! What can I do to be as close as possible to the real main idea? Are there any works that you guys can recommend me to read to gain a better insight of poem analysis in English A Literature and Language? (I'm HL, btw!)

    not-to-do EE math topics

What are EE math topics I should avoid? Is writing about RSA cryptosystem or four-colored map too common?
  7. Hi people! A friend and I are thinking about buying revision guide books for Biology and History, and I was wondering if anybody has bought books from www.osc-ib-com and found them useful and helpful while revision for their exams? Or you might’ve bought books from somewhere else? Anyways, do anybody know of revision books/guide that are worth spending money on? Thanks Laura

IB Math SL IA help needed!!

Hi, so for my IA topic I chose to explore if there's a correlation between race/country and adoption. I've run into a problem though because I'm focusing on 5 different countries and then the number of adoptions from each of those countries over 19 years so I have 5 seperate scatter plots. If I try to find the correlation based off each scatter plot, it would be between the number of adoptions and years for just that one country, instead of all the countries and adoption rate as a whole. How can I fix that? Do I look at it a different way or am I just focusing on it the wrong way? Please help!!

    EE Math HL HELP

Hey, I don't have a lot of time and I'm desperately searching for my EE topic. I've been thinking about applications of continued fractions or looking for the best way to define pi number by probability. I dunno what to do with the first topic to show my personal engagement and I'm not sure whether the second idea isn't too simple and should be used rather to write an IA. Can you comment on them and/or eventually give some ideas? :/ I feel like committing a suicide but I like this subject... Any tips to survive?

    Math IA - Correlation

I really need some help rn. I'm thinking of doing a math exploration in the topic of Correlation between GDP Per Capita and Gini Coefficient in Countries. Basically, Gini coefficient is a measure of income equality in a country. The higher the coefficient is, the higher the income inequality. However, the mathematics skills & analyses I will use & do will probably only be from the topics of descriptive statistics and linear modelling. And so far, the IA samples I've seen with similar topics in correlation are only from math studies, so I'm getting concerned. is this topic too simple?

    Temperature and Enzymes

Hey everyone, For my bio ia, im doing temperature's effect on enzyme activity. As expected, i got a quadratic relation where it reaches the optimum point. I'm a little confused as to how i can explain correlation though. Some sources say correlation coefficient is only linear but i got a coefficient on excel for the polynomial trend line... Also, for positive or negative correlation, would concave down be negative and concave up is positive? Please let me know ASAP. Thank you!

    EE HELP

Hello, I'm half way through my first year in the DP and I'm still struggling to find an interesting topic for EE on English. I wanted to take a look at The Great Gatsby, The Yellow Wallpaper or The Lord of the Flies but my sister recommended me not to do so because these texts are studied throughout the years of IB and the markers would expect an exceptional outcome towards the essay; essentially making it a little difficult for me to ace. I'm currently reading about Burmese Days by George Orwell, it talks a lot about gender, race, culture, imperialism and etc. but I'm not too sure if I'll be sticking to this one. My only option now is to take a look at other novels that perhaps incorporate politics or feminism (I feel like they'll be easier to deal with???). So, I was hoping if you guys could give me some advice on the EE and some novels I could take a look at

    Maths SL IA Matrix Algebra

Hi, I came up with a topic “What type of function will produce the most accurate model of population growth in country X?” I made scatter plot using data about country’s population in given year. Now I want to use quadratic function to see how would it fit as a model and I’m wondering whether there is other way to find (a, b, c, and d for the equation y = ax3 + bx2 + cx + d) than applying matrix algebra (X = A-1 B) since matrix algebra is not a part of SL curriculum and I’m worried that using it may lower my mark.

    Design Technology IA Prototype

For my IA I am building an automatic pet food dispenser. However, the problem is that the materials are unattainable for be because they're so expensive (Im talking almost $1,000, which I don't have). The prototype is a mandatory aspect of the IA. So, can I make my prototype out of different materials than I listed the actual product would be made out of? I planned for the product to be a combination of plastic and stainless steele, but for the prototype I wanted to make it out of wood. Is there a problem with that because from my understanding prototypes are functioning models, but they don't have to be made of the actual material, unless I'm wrong. Please help!
  17. Hey! I have just finished my draft of the Mathematics SL Exploration. I showed it to my teacher and he said that I have to put double space and separate my calculations from the text. I told that if I do that I will exceed 12 pages. Though, he contends that it is okay. Is it really so? In Maths guide there is nothing on double space and all that stuff that we have in EE. Plus it is explicitly written that exploration must fit into the range of 6-12 pages. So I am confused whether I have to do what the guide is saying or what my teacher claims to be true. Help, please!

Which HL to drop to SL?

Hello everyone, I am currently doing 4 HL's but I need to drop one as soon as possible. Right now I am taking Math, Physics, Chem and Econ HL. I want to be an astrophysicist. I know that I need to keep Physics HL, I do not know about Math because even though I am strong at math, the teachers say that it will be very challenging for me and I will not be able to get the score I want, but if I drop to Math SL she said that the course would be kinda too easy for me not letting me develop my skills. I have to choose between Chem and Econ which one to drop. If I were to have Physics, math, and chem HL the teachers say I would pick the "death combo", and I can see why. But they complement the best If I were to pick Physics, econ, and chem HL, would I need more maths but should I be okay with just Math SL for astrophysics? or should it be better if I keep Math HL? The other option would be to have Physics, math, and econ HL, in which math would be the most challenging one for me. I have tried the 4 for a semester, and I am allowed to keep it like that for another semester before yr12 starts, but me and my math teacher would like if I decide as soon as possible, if possible before the second semester of my first year starts. Thank you all for your help! All thoughts are welcomed!
  23. Hey guys, clearly from the title you can see that I'm struggling in IB Econ. I have been probably getting the worst results amongst my class since I started early this year(not struggling in any other subject). I'm in need of some serious tips of attempting to understand the course! Thanks!

    What if I'm failing badly?

I am currently in my first semester of grade 11's and am getting 3's rather than straight 7's in all my subjects. Is it alright if I'm failing most of my subjects for my first semester? I have taken the subjects HL Maths, HL Physics, HL Comp Sci, SL Bus & Man, SL Eng Lang Lit, and SL Spanish B. Will I ever improve or am I also going to fail my IB exams in May of 2020?
  25. hello everyone. I am trying to choose which subjects to have in a HL. I know that I have to take HL physics, that one is sorted and decided. but i am wondering if I should have math HL. the career counselor of my school tells me that I am capable of doing it, but my credits would decrease as it is a really tough subject and that is the important stuff. but I also know that I might need to have the knowledge for what is thought in math HL. i really do not know whether is better to have a 6-7's on math SL or to take it HL and to have 4-5's but I would know more content. help please. i need togive them in 3 days. if it's helpful, these are the subjects I've chosen English SL French SL Economics HL Physics HL Math HL or SL? Chemistry HL (I was told to chose 4 HL to have a back up plan, one will be dropped afterwards) thank you
