  1. Hi! I am doing my EE in languages and literature. My research question so far is; How does rupi kaur discuss sexual assault and the female voice through poetry in her works; milk and honey, and the sun and her flowers? I wanted to write an extended essay surrounding poetry that dealt with sexual assault and the female voice (don't really know how to put it, but I mean how woman are portrayed through the media etc) through a feministic eye. Rupi Kaur is very modern and I thought she would be interesting to look at since her work has gotten a lot of attention and I watched her Ted talk and it was amazing. I'm having such a hard time getting started and I've been trying for weeks. Idk if I should choose someone to compare her work to but my advisor told me I could just focus on her if I wanted to, will that score well? I've tried doing an outline and have read many articles about the metoo movement and the portrayal of woman as objects in media. Im having such a hard time and need help!!!! Sincerely, a stressed out IB girl
  2. :))) hellooo, So, we all know that IB is all about the criteria's and stuff. I am currently writing my EE in psych, but I noticed that I don't have any criteria. I looked online but you should pay for them. I asked my school and they are ignoring me for a few weeks already. It is due in two months. Can someone help me? Provide me with criteria in psych, or at least explain what's in it? THANK YOU SOO MUCH GUYS
  3. I am am work on my mathematics extended essay, and I want to do it on: 1. Coming up with a general formula for the volume of the five Platonic Solids (I need to know from other mathematics higher level students if this is two simple). 2. The proof(s) for Euler's polyhedron formula. 3. The Travelling Salesman Problem (not sure how much math is involved as opposed to computer science). I am most interested in the first but willing to drop it if it is too simple. I am also open to suggestions of other interesting topics in geometry (the subject I have the most interest in). I want to get some work done before the summer break ends in about 4 weeks, so I could really use some advice (especially considering my adviser has gone incognito).
  4. Does anyone know the creators and origins of these two cartoons about Mao's 'Hundred Flowers' Campaign? I can't find any websites that have them but that also mention the name of the cartoonists and when they were created.
  5. Hey, I need help finding a research question for my Global Politics Extended Essay. I want to write about 9/11 but I have no Idea of what to write about or what to do. My supervisor is new to IB and doesn't know anything about the program or anything and I'm starting to get really worried. I just need help finding or a little guidance to find a narrow research question related to 9/11, please.
  6. Hi so I have decided to write my extended essay on the world studies topic of Chinese traditional medicine. However now that I have chosen this topic, I am not sure where to go next. I wanted my research question to be something a long the lines of "to what extent is chinese traditional medicine effective...". I wanted to answer this by comparing the treatment and its results for chinese traditional medicine with those of western medicine for a particular disease, however I am finding the research for a particular disease to be quite hard. Do you think I should continue to research for a disease or should I scrap that idea and write the essay to be more along the lines of the history and concepts behind chinese traditional medicine and how it came to be? or is that to broad and generic? I am really lost so if anyone has written their ee on chinese medicine, can you send let me know what you wrote yours about? Also if anyone knows any good sources regarding chinese medicine and/or alternate medicine, please inform me! Thanks
  7. Hi everyone, I'm going to start my first year of IB in the fall, and something that has confused me is the Extended Essay. What can I write about and what's off-limits? I know that you have to pick a topic that relates to the subjects that you take in IB, but can you write about a topic that relates to a subject that you aren't taking? The classes that I will be taking are: Math SL Biology SL Spanish B SL History of Americas HL Visual Arts HL English Literature A HL Thank you!!! 😁
  8. Want to share the title of your extended essay? Or perhaps need help choosing one? This is the place. Psychology - The Psychology of Road Rage: A discussion of psychological explanations of road rage and policy implications.
  9. Hey guys, what are your thoughts on ManageBac? Do your schools use it? In my school I only used it for CAS, but my friend's school used it for everything in the IB but he said it was pretty annoying to use... Is it any good? Do schools use other programmes instead?
  10. I was talking to some of my friends and I told them that my EE was of probability. To be more precise it is of probability on a casino game named craps. My idea was to make an analysis on how the casino always has more chances of winning than the player. My concern is that they told me that this topic is not going to get me a good grade. What do you think?
  11. Would it be okay to write my history EE on comic books? like, I want to compare the use of comic books as propaganda in different wars. how could I make a research question out of this?
  12. So, I'm writing my EE on English B about a book, and I realised that one of my secondary sources, that is a journal article about a certain aspect of the book, has exactly the same ideas that I wanna write down in my EE too (no, I didn't read the article completely before downloading it, so now that I did, I realised this). Would I have plagiarism problems? (I'm no way thinking about copying the article, but it concerns me that it's basically the same perspective. On the other hand, an EE should be a research paper anyways, right?) Thanksssssss
  13. I'm currently having my summer break, but still couldn't find a good Physics EE topic to discuss. I've had a few but not consistent meetings with my supervisor, but she said that my previous topics that I've made are too general. My previous EE topic that I've came up with was about the relationship between a change in rate of displacement with the Doppler Effect. I've done my EE draft and submitted, but was not really satisfied with my supervisor's comment (too general and not EE worth [though good for IA]). Then I've decided to leave my previous draft and trying to come up with another one. Now I'm currently having ideas with the application of electromagnetic induction (Faraday's Law) on electric guitars (and other music-related), but I just can't seem to find a suitable research question/purpose behind the topic. Can anyone help?
  14. I read the guide and I think my topic fits into: aspects of the current computer science syllabus that are taken to a far greater depth than that provided in the course but do I have to do an "experiment" and report my findings as I have read in a website? http://ib.compscihub.net/ee "Computer Science is counted as an experimental science by the IB and thus requires you to do some kind of experiment in the realm of computer science and then report your findings." ---- Because I'm not doing any "experiments", I'm just doing research ---- My RQ is "How reliable is straightforward RSA to send data over the internet" I chose straightforward RSA since it has more vulnerabilities and I thought I could explain away more stuff vs RSA or is that a bad idea?
  15. My research question is: How significant do different sources of greenhouse gas emissions in Tokyo and Auckland contribute to carbon dioxide pollution? I chose these two areas because I want to compare a densely populated city with a coastal city. I'm also planning on comparing a sparsely populated city as well but I just can't come up with a good option. Can you give some suggestions about the sparsely populated city I should use? (City with good data is preferable)
  16. Hey all, I was thinking that my World Studies EE Research Question is too broad and I am having problems narrowing it down. My EE supervisor says that a broad RQ is fine for a world studies EE but when I look it up online it says that the research question has to be focused. I am extremely confused right now. My RQ is- To what extent has the migration of unskilled workers into Dubai, UAE affected its economic performance and how has this affected the migrants themselves? So, this RQ has two parts. The first is focused on economic impacts and the second is focused on personal psychological consequences of migration. Any advice would be appreciated.
  17. Hey guys, I am currently working on my physics EE, but am having trouble focussing it. I would like to investigate the effect that changing a certain factor has on the rotations per minute of a wind turbine. However, I have no idea what factor I should change, that would make it worthy for an extended essay. Some ideas I have for the factor are changing the angle of attack, length of blade or shape of blade. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,
  18. Hello, I'm kinda freaking out as I am a perfectionist who wishes to find the best way to organize my way through IB (I'm starting it in August). My HL's (Math, Physics, Psych) and my SL's (Lang & Lit, Mandarin, Econ). What supplies should I buy to best prepare for these such as binders and notebooks. (I'm already buying an accordion folder btw) Also advice for any of these topics is very much appreciated. (ex. homework load, amount of worksheets handed out, how hard the class is in general) + general tips on CAS and my EE would be amazing Thanks in advance !
  19. So I started off with choosing The Civil Rights Movement as my topic for the Extended Essay but then I was told not to pick a topic that's so common, because the markers usually get tired of seeing the same thing over and over again. And also, if you're going to do a topic that's so well known, it has to be exceptional. So I was hoping if you guys could please put some suggestions that I could focus on that has a sufficient information for me to able to conduct the essay. Thank you! x
  20. How do you structure the body of an Extended Essay? I'm going to do mine in History, probably on Mao's 100 Flowers Campaign, and I'm unsure as to how to plan it. For example, if someone was doing their EE on the causes of WW1 (too broad of a topic, I know, but bear with me), would they do each body paragraph on a different cause? Or would some paragraphs try to disprove/argue against other paragraphs? How do you do it? If I have to do 8 paragraphs on 8 different causes, then I think I might struggle!
  21. So I will be doing my Extended Essay on either China's Cultural Revolution or before it; specifically, either the Red Guard, the Wuhan Incident or the Hundred Flowers Campaign. But I'm wondering where I could find primary sources. Are there any specific websites or books? Any online archives that I could access? Any pictures, newspaper/magazine articles, etc. from the time would be really useful! Also figures and statistics (of anything) would be great, but it's difficult to find them, especially for individual cities. I'm not sure about this, but I think that the Chinese government hasn't actually released any primary sources and so the only ones historians have are diaries, letters, photographs and interviews. I just want to verify this though as I don't remember the details!
  22. Hello, I have picked my topic as Surveillance and probably will do it on whether Snowdens actions were ethical or not. I have read about the topic, but how do I start writing?
  23. Hi. I've decided to do my EE in English, focusing on Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. I'm not getting any good advice from my supervisor, and the internet isn't really helping me. I've gone through a lot of book changes prior to this, more specifically dystopian and feminist books. However, I've read that these are really overused topics, so I wanted to try to think out of the box. I decided to choose Percy Jackson because I think that there is a lot of content I can analyze for my 4,000 words. It's okay to choose a relatively 'easy' book for EE, right? Right now, I need help on choosing a topic and formulating a good research question. Honestly, I'm stuck at choosing which topic I should focus on. I'm scared if the topics I have in mind will be good enough for an EE. I would really appreciate feedback on the topics, and the research questions that come along with them. Here's what I have so far. 1. The Portrayal of Greek Mythology in Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief How does Riordan portray classic characters from ancient Greek mythology in Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief? : Classic vs revised character traits of the Greek gods How does Riordan associate ancient Greek mythology with modern literature in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief?: Plots of the original Greek myths affected by modern technology, environment, characteristics of the Greek gods, etc. 2. Family Roles in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief How does Riordan portray family roles in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief?: Nature of family, duties and responsibilities of a parent and a child; how gods neglect their roles as parents, and how their demigod children are expected to do more 3. Coming of Age in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief How does Riordan portray the coming of age in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief?: How internal conflicts faced by the character is portrayed in the form of monsters and evil villains 4. The Hero Concept in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief How does Riordan define the meaning of a hero in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief?: Characteristics of a hero; analysing different characters and how they are considered heroes
  24. I’m doing my Extended Essay on the effects on the city’s tourism of a music festival and all the smaller events it sponsors. I’m planning to mention how it gathers people and activates different economic areas, so it triggers economic growth in the region. My question would be ‘To what extent is the music festival effective at increasing tourism in the city?’ or something along those lines. Though I think it’s too broad and should be specified more. I appreciate any tips on how to make it more narrow or maybe approach the question in a different manner! Thanks.

    IB Bio EE

Hi all! I am in the process of deciding an EE topic. I have come up with a possible topic but upon discussing with my teacher she has told me that it does not have enough depth for IB diploma and lacks a biochemistry angle. My proposed topic is: The regeneration of Planaria Researching whether freshwater Planarian (flatworms) reproduce asexually by regeneration and what factors affect its ability to regenerate. Essentially, Planarians possess neoblasts (pluripotent adult stem cells) which have the ability to transform into a huge range of cells that are able to maintain and regenerate. I will be cutting planarian into segments, ranging in size. I will also research some other factors that may affect its ability to regenerate and incorporate those factors into my experiment. There is a lot missing from this and I am hoping to research and develop this more, but for now, I am stuck. My question is, how can I make this experiment more "IB-like?" and does there need to be biochemistry involved in these topics? Or is it because my teacher prefers us to focus on biochemistry because it is all we have learnt in IB Bio so far?
