    EE topic help

I told my teacher that I wanted to do my EE in English, using the work of Stephen King. I asked if it was better to talk about one book or to compare two different books, and he told me a comparison would be a more interesting choice. I was reading IT but still had to find the second book and the topic to compare. I wanted to take a completely different genre of book but that would be a lot harder and I don't have much time, so I might end up choosing another one of his books like The Shining or Pet Sematary. Regarless of what book I choose, I still don't know what topic to discuss in my EE. I was thinking about taking two characters or the way each book treats a certain theme, but I'm not sure. My question is: what are interesting topics/things to compare in horror/thriller books?
  2. Hi, I'm planning to write my EE based on my English B subject. I'm actually having quite a hard time forming a solid question, but I've thought of a couple of topics. - the book "No Longer Human" by Dazai Osamu. I could talk about how the author showcases the struggle of the main character, a social outcast, trying to fit in the society, before he decided to commit suicide. -"Animal Farm/1984" by George Orwell and how it reflects the modern society/government. Since I'm living in Thailand I'd mainly focus on the Thai politics. -How mental illness was portrayed by the show "13 reasons why," and what impact it may have on the viewers. These are the topics I've thought about so far. I really want to start my EE as soon as possible, but I'm still not confident about my research questions/topics. Please take some time to help me out. Thanks.
  3. Ok so, I'm writing my EE in English Literature A HL, but I'm really clueless as to what book to analyse. I was thinking to do something with Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle, because I think it's a good example of a classic that hasn't been completely picked apart and turned inside out by every English student ever (like shakespeare or Emily Brontë). However, I'm finding it really hard to know where to start. If any of you are familiar with Cat's Cradle or Kurt Vonnegut's work, please send me some ideas/things to keep in mind if you have any tips. Are there any other books/authors with in a similar style that you think would work better? I just need all the help that I can get.
  4. I'm doing Literature for Language A Self taught Afrikaans, but I don't entirely understand the requirements and syllabus...can someone please explain what is required for each of the 4 parts.
  5. I have a few more days until I have to decide on my Extended essay topic. I am torn between choosing Business (HL) or English (SL), but I'm not sure if I can do my extended essay for an SL class. I most likely want to study Business or marketing in university; however, I just thought about a really interesting idea for an extended essay that only applies to my English Lang&Lit subject. I know it'll be better for me to pick Business as that is the direction I want to go towards to in the future, but I feel like I will be way more interested in writing my extended essay in English.

NEED WORK IN TRANSLATION ESSAY HELP!!!!

I'm trying to write my WIT essay for higher literature, but I'm having trouble. My question is "How is Hanna portrayed as the victim in part three, chapter eight in "The Reader?"" If you have any points on how she's portrayed as a victim that'd be great!!
  7. "To what extent was the cold war responsible for the separation between North Korea and South Korea?" is this too broad? please someone help how i should phrase my research question. I really do have interest and a lot of knowledge in this area (the Korean War) & (The Cold War)
  8. Hey guys! So I am writing my last written task for Russian & Literature HL. And as it is task 2 I decided to make an analysis of an advert(s) and how they would change if the target audience changed. My question is: is it really allowed to analyze more that one advert-banner? Coz in the examples our teacher sent us, there is one analyzing a photo(single one), so I don't really know if this is okay to have more. I look forward to your replies^^
  9. So, my class was told that our EE's are due next year in May and our first draft is due in a few weeks. I heard History is a great subject to look into for the EE but our teacher advised us not to focus on it since our class doesn't take that subject anymore ( ☹️ ). Anyway, I plan on finishing my TOK, CAS and EE before the year so I can focus on my studies next year. Unfortunately, I still haven't come up with a satisfactory topic yet for EE. I thought of doing it on the Western influence on Japanese art but I doubt I'd find any articles or information that could potentially build a 4,000 word essay. So I was hoping if anyone could please give me some interesting topics for EE I could perhaps look into, preferably English or History (my supervisor is a major in both these subjects, so it won't matter). Please help me, I'm actually really stressed out and worried about this.
  10. So the teacher gave us a past paper where we had to analyse and compare and contrast between two texts. I kind of struggle with writing that because I had no idea how to build up on the analysis. I scored pretty poorly on that and I asked the teacher for some feedback and she told me that my text wasn't organised and that it was all over the place. So I was wondering if anyone could please tell me how to structure the text for analyzing and comparing and contrasting between two texts?

    Books you are reading

Which books are you reading/did you read for your Literature course? (English or other languages) Which one was your favorite?
  14. Hi, I need to write a written assignment for the external assessment which is the 1500 word literary essay on a work studied in part1. I'm writing my essay on Death and the Maiden by Ariel Dorfman. My guiding question for the essay is "How does Dorfman create conflict between Paulina & Gerardo through the use of dramatic dialogue and how is it resolved?" I plan to constrain it to act 1 scene 1 while linking it to other parts of the play. Do you think that this is an appropriate topic? And I'm not sure about the structure of the essay. What do I start writing with? Please help ASAP!! Thanks
  15. I made the stupid decision of writing my EE on a subject which my school doesn't offer, and regret it... but whatever! I'd love it if somebody who takes the course or goes to a school that offers it could help me out by sending me some kind of study guide, curriculum, a sample essay of any kind or even putting me in contact with somebody would help-- I'm just looking to better understand the subject and hopefully find someone that can give me some tips or even read my essay! Thank you so much guys!!

    Great Gatsby IOP

I need help deciding on a topic for my English IOP. I've decided on doing a just a slideshow presentation, so it needs to be really good. The only topic I've thought up of is name symbolism, but that's a really popular topic. Any ideas?
  19. So I started off with choosing The Civil Rights Movement as my topic for the Extended Essay but then I was told not to pick a topic that's so common, because the markers usually get tired of seeing the same thing over and over again. And also, if you're going to do a topic that's so well known, it has to be exceptional. So I was hoping if you guys could please put some suggestions that I could focus on that has a sufficient information for me to able to conduct the essay. Thank you! x
  20. I’m trying to decide the subjects to pick for my IB studies next year. Biology and chemistry hl have already been decided as I’m trying to get into medicine. My current placeholder of a choice is studying psychology hl, maths sl, and language A lang and lit, and ab initio Arabic (on top of bio and chem hl). I honestly don’t know if it’s a good idea to study three sciences (yes, I’m counting psychology) at hl! I didn’t get to study psychology during my middle years as my school didn’t offer the subject, but I’m really interested in the subject. Am I setting myself up for misery and anxiety ridden nights before and after the exams or is the combination that I’ve currently chosen feasible enough? And by the way, does an ab initio second language count as an SL subject and bear the same grading weights or am I supposed to study an extra subject??
  21. I have really decided my topic of my English B EE to be metaphors in The Fault In Our Stars since it's deeply moving and unique in rhetorical strategies. But in this forum, I saw many past discussions about John Green's books that they are not classical and it might be risky to write my EE on this topic. My optimal career choice for the future is material science/ optics and electrical engineering, but I don't have enough resources to conduct a research to finish my EE on natural sciences. I have another choice, which is on analyzing the oligopoly in airlines competitions(extent of collusion, the role of government and state owned airlines, price discrimination, etc.), but I am a Eco SL student who just entered two extra HL classes per week. The truth is SL Eco does not cover any section of oligopoly, so I have to study an extra bit of work. Give me some suggestions on whether I should write English B EE or Economics EE, thanks!
  22. Hi! I'm considering looking at The Trial by Kafka and 1984 by Orwell in terms of the nature of authority, the position of the individual in society and the methods the people in authority use to maintain power. Do you think this is a good choice for my EE? I haven't come up with a research question yet but something to do with society vs. the individual? I realize that these books are somewhat overdone in the IB but this is what I'm most interested in doing and I am going to refine my research question into something that hasn't previously been done. Thanks!
  23. This is a sentence from my EE and I really don't know if it sounds good, especially the red part I highlighted. Would be really grateful if you could tell me please what you think! "Eight decades apart, the books have never been compared, although plenty of interesting connections can be made between them and the context of feminism. Thus the following research question arises [...]"
  24. Hi, I want to switch my subjects but I'm already on the 2nd semester of 11th grade. My courses are; Turkish HL, English HL, Visual Arts HL, History SL, Physics SL and Math SL. I want to switch Turkish HL to either Math HL or Physics HL. The reason why I want to do it is because the teacher is cancer. I don't want to tell the details but just know that she's not a good teacher... Also I don't like literature and stuff. Is it possible to switch? Would it worth? The course I want to study in university is nothing related to Turkish. I'm very regretful about this situation.
  25. So for my extended essay, I wanted to write about anime because it is the only thing that interests me. Due to my love for books,as well, i decided to do a Literature EE, however I am not quite sure what category my EE falls under. I want to make sure my EE actually fits under a category before I get too invested in it. I am planning to compare a potrayal of a society in a novel with a society in an anime. Because the anime is well not a literacy work I couldn't figure it out by reading the extended essay guide and the teachers at my school aren't so sure. Please help me out it would be appreciated. Thank you.
