  1. Psychology IA Statistics Help (Tversky and Kahneman 1974) I chose to do my IA on the Tversky and Kahneman 1974 experiment on the anchoring bias. Basically, it was an independent samples design. In condition A, the participants were asked to estimate a numerical expression in ascending order 1 X 2 x 3 x 4 x 5 x 6 x 7 x 8. In condition B, it was presented in descending order 8 X 7 X 6 X 5 X 4 X 3 X 2 X 1. I already ran the experiment, but my problem is with getting the statistics. As it is independent measures, my teacher said to use the Mann-Whitney test. However, when I input my data, I get this notification: The sum of ranks for samples A and B combined does not equal [n(n+1)]/2. Please check your data entries. Do you have any suggestions for what to do? What test to use instead?? Or do I stick with the test and create ranges (that's what my teacher suggested)? Any help is appreciated.   3. Hello! I wanted to post my psychology IA to help out anyone struggling. I received a solid 7 from my teacher and I'm fairly positive it was still a 7 or high 6 after moderation. I am not entirely sure if this is from the old curriculum or not, but I do know that I didn't need to do much statistical analysis if that makes any distinction. I hope this helps someone!
  4. I'm currently deciding on my course options for IB, and I really want to take math studies. Math has always been my weak point - I pretty much have perfect grades in everything else. I took IGCSE extended math this year (I didn't take core because I did NOT want a C as my highest grade) and I've found it pretty challenging. I'm really interested in the humanities, and for like half my life, I've known that I want to be a psychologist / neuropsychologist. I know I need stats for that, and looking at the math studies curriculum, it's pretty stats intensive (more so, even, than math SL). Would american universities care whether I took math studies? If it helps, I'm interested in schools like Pamona / Pitzer / Bowdoin I'm also considering relatively easy courses in general, but that's because I'm genuinely interested in everything I'd be taking. My courses would be: Geography HL Psychology HL English A lit HL French B SL Math studies / Math SL (ew) Biology SL Would taking math studies hurt me?

  6. So I am doing my extended essay in psychology, on Alzheimer's disease and its possible treatment. My research question at the moment is: To what extent do biological and psychological factors influence the possible treatment of Alzheimer’s disease? Is it too broad, and would I be better just picking either biological or psychological factors that influence it only? Or is it better to pick one factor, say music therapy for example, and change the question to, TWE does music therapy influence the possible treatment of AD?

I recently submitted a request for revaluation of my Psych papers but they wrote back saying ": Please note, the justification for the report must describe in what specific way(s) it is felt the current marking is incorrect in relation to the marking criteria /mark scheme. A general comments are insufficient. A report will not be completed without this information ." What kind of justification do they need? I don't really know where i lost marks but I'm pretty sure I did pretty good in the papers. I just need one mark to get a 6
  8. :))) hellooo, So, we all know that IB is all about the criteria's and stuff. I am currently writing my EE in psych, but I noticed that I don't have any criteria. I looked online but you should pay for them. I asked my school and they are ignoring me for a few weeks already. It is due in two months. Can someone help me?   11. This is a informative and detailed guiding document that give explanations and instructions for understanding and using descriptive statistics in Microsoft Excel. The file is divided into two parts - The first part explaining concepts and the second part giving instructions for how to use it in Excel. Note that this document only covers for: Quartiles Interquartile Range and Semi-Interquartile Range Outlier detection Standard deviation A description for the median will also be explained. As this file is aimed to help those who are doing their Psychology IA there is also a section about how to plot a column chart showing median/mean values with S.D/SIQR as error bars.
  12. I’m trying to decide the subjects to pick for my IB studies next year. Biology and chemistry hl have already been decided as I’m trying to get into medicine. My current placeholder of a choice is studying psychology hl, maths sl, and language A lang and lit, and ab initio Arabic (on top of bio and chem hl). I honestly don’t know if it’s a good idea to study three sciences (yes, I’m counting psychology) at hl! I didn’t get to study psychology during my middle years as my school didn’t offer the subject, but I’m really interested in the subject. Am I setting myself up for misery and anxiety ridden nights before and after the exams or is the combination that I’ve currently chosen feasible enough? And by the way, does an ab initio second language count as an SL subject and bear the same grading weights or am I supposed to study an extra subject??
  13. I've had a really hard time choosing a topic. I'm interested in a lot of different subjects, and one doesn't really stick out. We had a deadline to choose a topic, but we can change it. Right now I'm planning on doing mine in psychology, researching how second language acquisition affects child development, specifically within education and brain/language development. The problem is, my school does not offer a psychology course, and I've heard that if you haven't taken the class, you shouldn't write an essay in that area. I'm also interested in Environmental Systems and Societies, but my school also doesn't offer that class. I have taken the AP environmental science class. However, I couldn't come up with a good topic to explore in that area. My favorite DP class right now is physics, and I would be ok with doing an essay in that subject, but haven't found an idea I'm really interested in. Maybe something to do with soccer (I play)? I really need to come up with a solid plan soon. My rough draft is due in September, but I have the EE cafe in May. I would really appreciate any ideas or advice you guys have!! Thanks!!😊
  14. I memorized this essay and it received a 17/22 (marked internally). If you memorise it completely you might get a higher mark. Hope this is helpful! I added extra studies just in case, not all are necessary to memorise. As long as there is enough detail with the studies it should be okay.

  16. Hello my name is Veronica, I'm currently doing the IB and I really need help with my EE. The subject I'm doing it on is Psychology and I chose as a topic the Placebo Effect. The question I came up with is How do attributional factors affect Placebo effect? I started writing it but it's pretty bad and messy. The problem I have is that I have no idea how to structure this essay; subtitles, structure and idk my teacher is pretty crap at EE stuff so I really need you help me, especially since I have no idea how many words each section should be.   17. Hello! I'm having certain problems with my EE! [not the real one, it is just a "trial", as my school always does one for students in year 1]. It is on biology, my research question is: "How do certain food groups affect human memory and learning?" [human physiology], although I've realized that it fits psychology more. Also, would IB consider testing on yourself as ethical? I know that they aren't lovers of testing on others. Thx!
  18. Hi, I'm on the fence about a few of my IB courses. I want to major in Psychology and attend an Ivy League Law school after I graduate. I wanted to do History but our school, unfortunately, doesn't offer it. I'm currently in grade 10 Chemistry and have an A-plus; moreover, I'll be doing grade 10 Biology next semester. Apart from the fact that I like Biology, I believe that taking that course will make me appear to be a more well-rounded student who is good at both sciences and social sciences. I've never taken Psychology or Business classes before; however, I'm interested in them, especially Psychology.   19. Hey guys, So I'm taking HL Psychology on Pamoja (currently in week 12: UNIT 3: Biological Approaches to Behaviour) and I'm struggling a lot. I find it hard to keep track of everything I've read about even when taking notes. The class moves kind of fast and my teacher constantly tells me that I don't use enough psychology terms. I've tried constantly reading each rubric for how to answer questions and even listing down words I don't understand to use it in the future. I'm engaged in discussions and I continue to keep trying harder to hit all the necessary things when answering an SAQ. If anyone has any tips, it would be a great great help. My teacher had also said that everyone is getting from 1-6 out of a nine. He mentioned that a 4-6 is okay but I still want to achieve higher. Any help will be appreciated! Even just notes or input!

  21. Hey future ib colleagues, I’m the next victim of IB! Its that time in my life where I actually have to think about what I want to be in life. I HAVE NO IDEA. Teachers are commanding (I’m over exaggerating a bit) subject choices for IB. I chose subjects that interested me other than actually dying and trying to figure out what career I want.   22. I want to apply to universities in Holland for a bachelors degree in psychology however I have gotten a 26 predicted grade in IB. I look at the entry requirments for the universities I want and it says that the entry requirments are just an ib diploma so my question is if I apply do I have a good chance of getting accepted if they only want a diploma even though I have 26 points for predicted Thank you
  23. I am in year 11 and I am doing AQA GSCE Psychology, which I really am not enjoying. I get A's and a few A*'s. I started doing Economics GSCE but changes to Psychology within the first two weeks because our teacher was extremely bad, meaning I have no prior economics knowledge. I'm extremely oriented towards humanities and my math isn't that good. I want to study Politics or Law in university. Right now, I really don't want to do Psychology for IB (we need to choose our subjects by next week) and I have a read a bit of Economics and it seems really interesting. What can I state as a claim and counter claim [in terms of ethics and advance], when I talk about certain experiments that were undertaken in psychology to find more about how humans work?
