I need to start getting solid with my IA topic but right now I am just brainstorming ideas and wanting to hear some ideas from peers. So far I only have around three ideas but are fairly common and perhaps not HL worthy: 1) Calcium content in different types of milk ( not sure how to do this one but interested, wondering if I should use the milk of different animals or different processes and procedures) 2) Enzyme and substrate relationship on how changing the amount of substrate would affect the enzyme activity and perhaps the pH as well? ( Biological catalyst, a bit worried that this is too biology, thinking about using catalase and hydrogen peroxide but afraid that it is too common and also would like to explore different enzymes as well) 3) Best material for cooling pack (quite random really...) I don't really have a lot of confidence in myself and due to previous issues, I have stuff in my chemistry academics to catch up on and find it different to concentrate and understand but I'm willing to learn and work hard. Please do suggest different Chem IA topics as well! I would love to hear them and perhaps find one that I really like.
Hey, I need help from someone taking philosophy. What do you think about the topic "To what extent should animals have moral rights?" ? I've checked the syllabus and there is something about animals as persons or machines, and discussion about ethics and animals, so I thought I could write on this topic. What's your opinion? I've read couple of books on animal rights from the philosophical point of view, but could you give me some advice if there are any things I should know while writing EE in this subject? Any traps? Any specific way to write it? Oh and I cannot change the subject anymore, so please don't discourage me that I shouldn't be writing in the subject I don't take Thanks in advance!
I have to submit my Extended Essay topic soon, and I'm thinking of doing my it in Biology, but I cant find a topic that's good enough which also follows IB rules on ethics for animals. Human and other animal experimentation isn't allowed. A lot of the topics I thought about have already been done or are ethically wrong. I really want to do something related to the brain or genetics. What should I do? Could you please suggest some good topics? Thanks
Hey guys, I'm planning my EE in Biology which revolves around chickens and rice. The thing is, my research requires me to slaughter chickens after a 3 month period in order to analyze some samples (fat and muscle composition etc). I've read the IB animal ethics guidelines but it just states to not cause harm or stress on purpose to the animals during the experiment, like test drugs or feed the animals diet that deteriorates their health etc. Do you think I could be able to proceed with the slaughter?
