    EE HELP

Hello, I'm half way through my first year in the DP and I'm still struggling to find an interesting topic for EE on English. I wanted to take a look at The Great Gatsby, The Yellow Wallpaper or The Lord of the Flies but my sister recommended me not to do so because these texts are studied throughout the years of IB and the markers would expect an exceptional outcome towards the essay; essentially making it a little difficult for me to ace. I'm currently reading about Burmese Days by George Orwell, it talks a lot about gender, race, culture, imperialism and etc. but I'm not too sure if I'll be sticking to this one. My only option now is to take a look at other novels that perhaps incorporate politics or feminism (I feel like they'll be easier to deal with???). So, I was hoping if you guys could give me some advice on the EE and some novels I could take a look at
  3. Hi guys, my EE sort of 'proposal' due date where we seriously consult to the EE supervisors and all that are next week's Wednesday, and honestly I'm still so so confused and I need help or just some suggestions or anything, please. Here are the subjects I am taking: Economics HL, Mathematics HL, Physics HL, Chemistry SL, English A SL, MandarinAB. So, since the start, I've always intended on taking Economics EE because from all my other subjects, it seemed impossible for me. (I've been getting rock bottom scores for Math and the school have no more supervisors for Physics). So, I've been researching a lot for like a few months now, but until now I've got nothing. Initially, I wanted to do about impact of K-Pop in Korea's economy, which would certainly interest me, but the Econs EE supervisor said to do something related to your country, and I'm an Indonesian. I've also searched about topics like tourism, transport, food, etc, but it's really hard for me to relate it to the economics concept especially when it's like about a particular brand like for example McD, etc. And lots of people say that it's leaning more towards Business, and I don't take Business. My economics EE supervisor has been chasing me and all that about topics topics and topics for Econs since he knows that I want to take it, but yesterday he talked to me and said that it's really important for everyone to do an EE on a topic that will surely interest us and something that you are passionate about. He kept on also encouraging the whole class to take a Language EE, like Indonesian B and the subject allows you to talk about a wide range of things like analysing songs, brochures, ads and all that, etc. So, I was quite persuaded by that and I really want to do on something about K-Pop. So, I noticed I could write about K-Pop on these language EEs, but the problem is I don't take Indonesian B and I don't take English A HL (I take A SL), so it would surely be a challenge for me. Even though Indonesian is my first language, I don't know if I could write well, but I really feel like I wanna do this you know, or maybe do English A EE. Another problem is, I don't know how I could relate the topic of K-Pop to these language EEs, can anyone maybe share me your thoughts on my issue please? I really need help. Thank you!!...
  4. So, my class was told that our EE's are due next year in May and our first draft is due in a few weeks. I heard History is a great subject to look into for the EE but our teacher advised us not to focus on it since our class doesn't take that subject anymore ( ☹️ ). Anyway, I plan on finishing my TOK, CAS and EE before the year so I can focus on my studies next year. Unfortunately, I still haven't come up with a satisfactory topic yet for EE. I thought of doing it on the Western influence on Japanese art but I doubt I'd find any articles or information that could potentially build a 4,000 word essay. So I was hoping if anyone could please give me some interesting topics for EE I could perhaps look into, preferably English or History (my supervisor is a major in both these subjects, so it won't matter). Please help me, I'm actually really stressed out and worried about this.
  5. Hello Folks, My Research question for my social & cultural anthropology essay is How have Indian traditions & culture impacted the Jewish cultural identities & their culture in Mumbai”. As part of my primary research, i have interviewed & surveyed a head of a Jewish community center in Mumbai. I have garnered a lot of information about the history, modern day statistics, rituals, comparison between Mumbai & Jerusalem as an abode for Jews, personal experiences of Jews in India and so on. My secondary research mainly includes you-tube documentaries, a limited amount of research publications & some community forums. I am unable to deliver my essay a proper format/structure, hence this is restraining me to write. I have included the background information about Jews in Mumbai in the introduction. I need some urgent help with an appropriate format & some tips on my research work for the same. Thank You Amish Agarwal
  6. For my Psychology Extended Essay I'm interested in the topic about gender roles but I'm still not quite sure on which aspect of it that I would like to focus on. I found tons of articles and journals about gender roles, gender differences, the biological and sociocultural aspects of gender, etc, which make me even more confused. Any suggestions on interesting specifics or aspects of that particular topic?
  7. I am currently doing my economics extended essay on the following topic: How will the new steal tariffs affect the steel industry in the province of Quebec? I just need some advice on what exactly I should focus on analyzing.
  8. Hello! I'm doing my extended essay on plant growth, but I only have 3 trials from my experimenting. I was told that theres hardly any statistical analysis that i can do without more than 5 trials, aside from calculating the mean, and I have no idea where to go with my data. I was planning on a lab based EE from primary data, but I'm not sure if thats possible anymore seeing as I dont have enough trials for in depth statistical analysis. Should I run more trials, or should I change direction with my EE and use my primary data to support secondary data, turning it into a research based essay instead of experimental?? Please help!! - Thanks, Cherry
  9. Hey guys, what are your thoughts on ManageBac? Do your schools use it? In my school I only used it for CAS, but my friend's school used it for everything in the IB but he said it was pretty annoying to use... Is it any good? Do schools use other programmes instead?
  10. I need a to form a "research question" for my EE, I just don't know what kind of question. I know for my EE I want to analyze either Debussy's string quartet and Ravel's string quartet (based on debussy's) or just Debussy's alone, but how do you make a question out of that? I have something along the lines of "To what extent did Debussy's String Quartet affect the structure and content of Ravel's string quartet" or something like that but I feel like that isn't like... IB enough. Like AP focuses more on music theory specifically but Ib music focuses more on analyzing the context, style, and feeling of music rather than the technical aspects of it, and I feel like that research question doesn't encourage enough analysis of that. Any other suggestions?
  11. I had to restart my EE cause my original question was based way too much on anthropology rather than history so they thought I should either change question or topic. SO I changed to English. I'm currently deciding on my new topic and I'm looking at either: 1. Looking at the Walking Dead and the use of civil society in a dystopia (focusing more on dictators) and using the Social Contract to help analyze it, I haven't yet started planning how I'd do all of this but I have ideas. 2. Analysing Joji's music and look at the story it tells through the lyrics and possibly music videos and answers through his language. I'm honestly really far behind but I chose English because as the saying goes I create diamond under pressure. Thank you if you're able to answer
  12. Hi guys. I have already looked through lots of ee on econs and I found out that most students did their ee on market structure, e.g. to what extent is ... operating in a perfect competition? If I were to do my ee on market structure, will it seem to be lacking originality which IB examiners are looking for?
  13. So, I am planning on doing my EE in Art and I was thinking of doing the topic "How are American and Japanese art influenced by one another and how are they different?", or something along those lines. Is this too vague? Should I specify a specific area of art? Can I even use this topic? Any feedback and suggestions would be awesome. Also, my 2,000 words checkpoint is next week and I haven't started yet, so please help ASAP!
  14. For my Art EE, I was thinking of using the question "How are American and Japanese art influenced by one another and how are they different?". Is this topic too vague? Should I specify a specific area of art? Is the topic even usable at all? Any feedback and suggestions on this topic would be great. My 2,000 word checkpoint is next week and I haven't even started so I need help ASAP!! Thanks!
  15. I have chosen to do my EE on maths. I need some advice on what to do, I have submitted numerous topics for all of them to get rejected. The same reason is given and it is that it is not heavily based in mathematics. If anyone could help tweak one of my topics so it would be perfect as I am struggling quite a bit and I can not get help from my advisor as it is their first year doing this because the advisor I was expecting to get stopped doing EEs. My proposals have been: Geometry behind renaissance architecture, permutation groups and diamond quality, distributions of chance in game show games, statistical analysis of the premier league and use a general rule to predict a champion. If possible I would like to do the group theory one as that has always interested me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Hi there! So we are currently on the stage of finalising what topic we want to do for our EE and I am doing mine in History, but am having some trouble choosing which one to do. I really want to get an A or B on the extended essay, so need a topic that sounds like it has a lot of good material in order for me to get a high grade So the topic I am currently interested in are: - How the African National Congress with Nelson Mandela was influenced by the Indian independence movement with Mahatma Gandhi and why peaceful protests worked in India, but not in Africa (this could possibly also explore ideas of terrorists vs freedom fighters? I'm not sure) - Princess Sophia's (From India) impact and influence on the suffragettes' movement in England - An exploration of Britain's rule on India and what kind of negative impacts that had (Maybe also explore the idea of whether or not Britain should pay reparations to India --> this idea came from the novel 'inglorious empires' by Shashi Tharoor) Any help is appreciated!! Thanks :))
  17. Hello! I'm considering doing an EE in English Lit and am wondering if Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card would be a good enough book to write it on? I've heard that it is studied by some schools in Grade 9 and so is inappropriate unless I come up with an incredibly good topic. I have some ideas and would like to know if they are appropriate: Applying psychoanalytical criticism to Ender? Comparing and contrasting Ender's game and an (undecided) Chinese classic of some kind? (would be great if there were some suggestions there, too!) Thank you all in advance!
  18. If I submit my first reflection after the deadline, will I lose points in the Extended Essay?
  19. I'm currently writing my Extended Essay and have a few questions about citations and footnotes. Note: my school uses MLA 7. When I use a source for the first time in an essay, must I write down the whole citation? If I then use it again later on, should I use an abbreviated version of the citation? If I have several sentences from the same source, should I put the footnote at the end of the last sentence or multiple footnotes after every sentence? Should I place my footnotes before or after a comma or full stop? Can I put more than one footnote in a sentence? Additionally, if I have multiple footnotes in a sentence, should I put them before or after punctuation? How should I reference websites in footnotes and abbreviated footnotes? If I use information that I find in a book, but it comes from a different book that the author has cited, should I write in the footnote “[A diff source] , as quoted in [my source/the book]”? In summary: what are the rules when creating footnotes and citations?
  20. I am am work on my mathematics extended essay, and I want to do it on: 1. Coming up with a general formula for the volume of the five Platonic Solids (I need to know from other mathematics higher level students if this is two simple). 2. The proof(s) for Euler's polyhedron formula. 3. The Travelling Salesman Problem (not sure how much math is involved as opposed to computer science). I am most interested in the first but willing to drop it if it is too simple. I am also open to suggestions of other interesting topics in geometry (the subject I have the most interest in). I want to get some work done before the summer break ends in about 4 weeks, so I could really use some advice (especially considering my adviser has gone incognito).
  21. Hey everyone, sorry for asking too many questions:( I started my IB DP two weeks ago, and I heard people in my school taking about writing IA and EE and doing group 4? projects or something like that. Could anyone briefly explain to me what they are? I am really curious.. Thank you so much!!
  22. Hello, As I am doing my world studies EE research, I came across a few obstacles. For my world studies essay, (which requires 2 subjects to approach a topic) I want to approach the biological and societal effects of using a gene editing technology called CRISPR in modifying and killing off mosquitos that carry Malaria. There's a global project going on called project target malaria, that has already conducted lab experiments and have proved that mosquito populations with malaria can be reduced. However what has left me rather confused is if I can approach the topic the way I want to. I want to explore what would happen in society and ecosystems if this global project does what it aims to. My research would be based on previous information (such as the role of mosquitos in ecosystems) and apply it to answer my question. And this brings me to ask: Is this topic too hypothetical? Should my topic entail something that has already been accomplished? All advice would be appreciated
  23. Hi! Sorry for another EE help post but I really don't know what I should do next for my EE... Here's my situation. I'm currently writing my economics EE with the research question " to what extent would Quebec's dairy industry be threatened by the removal of trade protections?" and I'm still a little confused about how I should answer questions based on "to what extent." Should I be answering it with my opinion of "yes it will be threatened" or something more like "it will be threatened in/because of certain aspects"? Moreover, would this research question fall under the "research question should not be hypothetical or in the future" section under the five year rule? I just saw this but my mentor has already approved my topic? Also, I have written out all the economic theory that I plan to use in my EE, how should I write an outline? Should there be arguments for or against the RQ? I'm not really sure how I can approach it, as to me, this is very different from the other essays that we've written in English or the other classes. Sorry for the bombardment of questions and I hope that I can receive some responses!
  24. For my History Extended Essay, I use a few websites that have old constitutions of the People's Republic of China. But I have no idea how to cite them! For example: http://en.pkulaw.cn/display.aspx?cgid=52993&lib=law https://sourcebooks.fordham.edu/mod/1949-ccp-program.asp Is there a proper way on how to cite them? Or should I simply cite them as websites?
  25. I made the stupid decision of writing my EE on a subject which my school doesn't offer, and regret it... but whatever! I'd love it if somebody who takes the course or goes to a school that offers it could help me out by sending me some kind of study guide, curriculum, a sample essay of any kind or even putting me in contact with somebody would help-- I'm just looking to better understand the subject and hopefully find someone that can give me some tips or even read my essay! Thank you so much guys!!
