  1. Hello everyone. I have received my IB results, and unfortunately, the only thing standing between me and the 45 score is the EE/TOK. I have scored 7s in all my subjects, but B/B in TOK/EE. I am 4 marks away from the A in each one. Is it likely that remarking works with these two subjects? And which one do you recommend that I remark? I just need an A in either to get the 3 total bonus marks and thus a 45. Thank you
  2. Hi all. For my Physics EE, I am hoping to do an experiment that relates my IV with my DV, and comparing the relationship I find in my experiments to a theoretical relationship defined by an equation. My only problem is, this experiment is not uncommon, and is frequently done (thankfully, it is usually done at university level, but it's actually quite simple). I'm worried that I will get marked down for a lack of creativity, so I tried to add a twist to my experiment, and show how the theoretical relationship isn't always accurate in all situations, and altering one of my other variables to make the theory more valid. How does this sound? Will I get marked down harshly due to a lack of originality? I'm really desperate for some help, anything is appreciated!
  3. Hi, My EE is in Swedish B and I have my RQ as 'How does X Hip hop rapper from 1990s respective to X Hip hop rapper from 2010s use 'the sociolect' to clarify messages?'. Is this question appropriate for category 2b?
  4. So, I decided to do my EE on distillation, but I'm not able to come up with a good research question on simple distillation (fractional would also work). I would really appreciate certain examples for the research question on distillation. Thanks!!
  5. Hi, this is my first time creating a forum post and I might not be as specific or on topic as I need to be to get my points and thoughts across so please bear with me. Currently I am in the midst or writing the first draft for my Computer Science Extended Essay and I seem to have hit a snag. The Research Question I have come up with is: To what extent has Artificial Intelligence impacted the space exploration industry? I would appreciate it if anyone could answer a few of my concerns about my RQ: Is it too broad? If it is, how can I narrow it without changing too much, as I already put up my first reflection which includes my RQ. (Kind of rushed and got myself into trouble here) Also, are there any fresh or unique takes on this topic? All I seem to be able to think of are the basics. (I just really wanted to do my EE on AIs and now I regret being so adamant) Below are the Self-Reflections I have posted in the RRS to give you an idea of my direction: First: My main points of focus and essay outline are as follows: Introduction: Why AI's should be implemented or researched etc. How AI's imitate human behaviour: Mental Processes and Procedural thinking. Efficiency of algorithms: Analyse the Machine Learning Algorithm and improve on efficiency if possible. Why AI's are suitable for use in space: Benefits and Drawbacks. Two current uses of AI in space: Rovers (AEGIS) and Environmental Maintenance (BioSphere). Possible future uses: Extraterrestrial exploration, Interplanetary travel (Passengers). Conclusion: To what extent has Artificial Intelligence impacted the space exploration industry? Second: Outline of Introduction: Context: Artificial Intelligence is an industry in itself as there are various uses for a technology which can simulate human behaviour however this also means that it can be used in various other industries. One such industry which has a potentially bright future for Artificial Intelligence technology is the Space Exploration industry, which has already implemented a few AIs and is planning to upgrade and implement more. Outline of Argument: This essay seeks to analyse the core function of AIs and how and why they are useful in the Space Exploration Industry. Scope: The essay will also include a couple examples of present uses of AIs in Space Exploration along with an analysis into their limitations and possible adjustments to make them more self-sufficient as Space requires largely self sufficient mechanisms or environments due to the amount of time it takes to communicate with Earth from distances further than the moon. Worthiness of investigation: This research question is worthy of investigation because it is a potential turning point in both the development of Artificial Intelligence technology and the advancement of Space Exploration (and its technology) to grander heights and it could be one of the keys to travelling to further distances physically. And honestly this is as far as I have gotten, except for a few lines into the actual Introduction. Is this a good start? Or do I need something a little more interesting or important? Any additional advice or constructive criticism which is not a direct answer to any of my questions will also be appreciated and considered. Thank you for your time.
  6. Hi everyone! Does anyone know the official IB deadlines for submission of IA's and Extended Essay?
  7. Hey everyone I'm just here to release my thoughts and worries cause they're just building up and get some advice (hopefully from people who have already finished IB or people who are going through the same thing) I just gave in my extended essay on literature and I'm kind of freaking out. I wrote it over the summer to save me time from worrying about it last minute and finished it by being told that we had to cite anything we PARAPHRASED. I did not know this. Therefore, I went back, changed and cited all the things that I KNOW weren't my ideas but I guess I was kinda lucky since most of it was all mine anyway. What I'm scared of, however, is I'm writing it on a very popular book with very similar opinions on it. I'm worried that something I wrote would be similar to something someone else wrote online even though I didn't take anything from it. I'm also very worried that I missed something whilst referencing. I know damn well I didn't copy anything word for word besides quotes and tried to cite everything I took from online. Our school still haven't run anything through turn it in or wtv but I'm hoping they would notify us if anything looks unusual. I just need advice cause I'm really not in the mood to lose my diploma over something that I didn't even intend on happening.
  8. Hi! So i was originally going to work on The Bell Jar and The Yellow Wallpaper for my EE but since i found out that this has been done numerous times, I decided to change my topic last minute, hence the urgent help needed. I'm really into poetry so i figured i could use Sylvia Plath and Anne Sextons poetry to write a comparative essay as their poetry often revolves around the same topic. My rough draft is due in two weeks so i would really appreciate if someone could give me some feedback on whether 4000 words can actually be written about them. ( the poems i was thinking about using “The Colossus”, “Full Fathom Five”, “Daddy”, and Sexton’s “And one for My Dame” and “All My Pretty Ones”, these also intregrate feminist aspects which could be fun analysing) Thank you so much!
  9. Hi, my school wants me to write my complete EE by December 6th but I'm really struggling with it. I don't know how to write it. It's a category 2 comparative analysis on one text originally in English and one translation. Any general tips?
  10. Hey all, just hoping to get some help regarding my extended essay topic. I'm currently doing my extended essay research question on To What Extent Did the American Red Cross Impact World War One Europe? I've been ok-ed by my teachers for this topic and have been chugging along. I just got my hands on the extended essay guide course companion book and read through some parts, and looked around online for additional information. My problem is I'm starting to think my topic can't really be looked at from other angles. All my research blatantly shows they had a large impact, how would I argue against that or view it from another angle? I was thinking about maybe writing something about how they compared to other humanitarian aid organizations in that area, maybe find some information on how they did stacked up to others? I'm really not sure so I'm hoping some smart people here can give me some guidance. If possible I'd rather not overhaul my EE topic to something super different as I've already sunk 10 hours into this, and don't want it to be for nothing. Thanks!

Now, I have gathered lots of pricing data and I found out that all firms charge pretty similar prices, however one firm is charging a significantly lower price than all other firms. How could I explain these findings using economic theory? Best, Nico
  16. " There are people who don't believe in the existence of dark matter, but there are numerous theories that could prove dark matter’s existence, such as gravitational lensing, dark matter halos, and cosmic microwave background. " I was wondering if this is a good extended essay thesis because my teacher said that this thesis is not arguable. I was wondering if she is right and if she is, how can I fix it. Many thanks in advance!
  17. Hi, I’m doing my EE in English Lit A1 and I’ve chosen Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons for my text. I’ve seen lots of people recommend against Dan Brown in Lit EEs but I’d like honest opinions after reading my research question: How does Dan Brown show the conflicts between the disciplines of Science and Religion to prove the possibility of their coexistence in the novel Angels & Demons? What I’m trying to get at is that the novel has been criticized for setting science and religion at odds, but actually the author implies that they’re just different ways to look at the same thing ie humans’ need to understand themselves, hence they are not opposite ‘sides’ at all. What do you think? Is it a bad idea to continue with this particular author? Any input is welcome, my first draft is due soon and I’m very well near a panic attack right now
  18. Hello! I'm doing my extended essay on plant growth, but I only have 3 trials from my experimenting. I was told that theres hardly any statistical analysis that i can do without more than 5 trials, aside from calculating the mean, and I have no idea where to go with my data. I was planning on a lab based EE from primary data, but I'm not sure if thats possible anymore seeing as I dont have enough trials for in depth statistical analysis. Should I run more trials, or should I change direction with my EE and use my primary data to support secondary data, turning it into a research based essay instead of experimental?? Please help!! - Thanks, Cherry
  19. Hey guys, I am thinking of doing a Bio EE on the topic of gaming and reaction speeds. I would talk about the part of the nervous system responsible for reflexes and such. I would get the data by making the students at my school take a reaction time test. I would then categorize the data into gamers and non-gamers. Should i add more criteria such as atheltes? Should i separate by age as well? I would like more input on this as I do not know what makes an EE good or bad. Input explaining on how to improve the topic or how the topic will not work is much appreciated, Any new topic suggestions are also welcome!! Which RQ is better? To what extent does fast paced video games affect reaction time, visual perception and decision making in teenagers? or What are the cognitive effects of fast paced video games on teenagers?
  20. So in my IB english literature class we are studying sylvia plath's POEMS (not her novel). but for my EE i want to write about Sylvia Plath's NOVEL "the bell jar". is this allowed?
  21. Research Question: How do the authors of "Of mice and men" and "The Great Gatsby" explore the pursuit of the American Dream during different time periods? Hi, can you please advise me if my research question is either too broad for an English EE, and if it is how should I adjust it to make it more suitable? Also, I have already done a brief plan, which is to compare the similarities and differences in how the theme 'American Dream (AD)' is explored in the books during the Great Depression and the Roaring 20s, for instance in 'Of mice and men' the author explores the AD using different characters to represent unattainability of the AD; however, I am struggling on which aspects of the American Dream I should discuss about as well as the depth of exploration or analysis is needed. So at what depth should my analysis on the American Dream be? And how should I try to implement the different time periods within my analysis? Can anyone please help me as soon as possible, thank youuu!
  22. Hello, My name is Taha, I'm 17 years old, and currently in 12th grade. I'm looking for someone to help me with my Extended Essay. I've decided to focus my essay on quantum locking: including superconductors (YBCO), the Meissner Effect. I have access to the materials needed to experiment with this topic (materials from quantumlevitation.com). Some ideas I had in mind was to discuss the Meissner Effect in superconductors when cooled down to a critical temperature with liquid nitrogen. I was inspired to this topic when watching a talk on TED.com about quantum locking and quantum levitation (video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXHczjOg06w) This aim of this project is to study the properties of quantum levitation and locking and provide ways to improve the efficiency and speed of current transportation systems (high-speed trains, levitating cars, and hoverboards), and the idea of creating bearings with negligible friction. I will need help in formulating a research question that would be appropriate to the Extended Essay guidelines and know what is the best structure for my essay. Let me know if you can help me. Thanks,
  23. how can i analyze a science fiction fantasy novel for my extended essay and what do i analyze exactly? Need help!
  24. Hello All, As you know by the title, I need EE help. Basically, I chose to do a biology EE cause it is my passion. At the beginning of our topic selection, I met with my advisor and told her that I wanted to do something with E.coli. Over the next several meetings I had with her, I decided upon studying how the different pH's of different foods inhibit E.coli growth. Long story short, on the LAST day of school my advisor tells me that I can no longer choose a topic that has to do with bacteria or else I will not score well. Apparently, IBO changed their guidelines that effected my class and when I asked my advisor about it she said: "yea, they can do that and we have to oblige". So I took about 1 day or so thinking about another topic I could do and landed on studying how different elements such as Nitrogen, Potassium, and Phosphorus inhibit the growth of a lima bean plant. So I got my materials and everything I needed to conduct my experiment and for the life of me, I have not been able to grow any seeds. All of the seeds which I have tried germinating or planting have died/failed/rot. That was 2 months ago. I have kept trying since then but to no avail. My rough draft of the EE is due on the first day of school 8/12/2019 and I do not know what to do. I have emailed my advisor multiple times and each time she has told me to either change my watering habits (which I have, I water once a day, and keep them in the sunniest part of my patio so they get the most sun), or to restart my seeds, or even keep trying. She even said she is baffled as to how I have not been able to grow such an easy plant. And now I am on the brink of a total mental breakdown and do not know what to do. My advisor told me I need some sort of data represented in my EE and if I have none, it will not be good. Can someone explain to me what would happen if my experiment for my EE does not go well? I would really appreciate it. Furthermore, I am in Florida, and all of the gardening departments of every store and independent gardening markets have stopped selling seeds as the season is coming to a close, which is making me even more frustrated now that I have no way of obtaining seeds. Someone, please help. Thank You.
  25. So I am having trouble narrowing my question, I want to do my extended essay about the coral reefs dying and how this can affect the human kind. Is this a good topic? Im confused on how to make a RQ out of this.. any advice would help, thank you.
