  1. Hi, I’m doing my EE in English Lit A1 and I’ve chosen Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons for my text. I’ve seen lots of people recommend against Dan Brown in Lit EEs but I’d like honest opinions after reading my research question: How does Dan Brown show the conflicts between the disciplines of Science and Religion to prove the possibility of their coexistence in the novel Angels & Demons? What I’m trying to get at is that the novel has been criticized for setting science and religion at odds, but actually the author implies that they’re just different ways to look at the same thing ie humans’ need to understand themselves, hence they are not opposite ‘sides’ at all. What do you think? Is it a bad idea to continue with this particular author? Any input is welcome, my first draft is due soon and I’m very well near a panic attack right now
  2. Hello! I'm doing my extended essay on plant growth, but I only have 3 trials from my experimenting. I was told that theres hardly any statistical analysis that i can do without more than 5 trials, aside from calculating the mean, and I have no idea where to go with my data. I was planning on a lab based EE from primary data, but I'm not sure if thats possible anymore seeing as I dont have enough trials for in depth statistical analysis. Should I run more trials, or should I change direction with my EE and use my primary data to support secondary data, turning it into a research based essay instead of experimental?? Please help!! - Thanks, Cherry

    BIO extended essay

Hey guys, I am thinking of doing a Bio EE on the topic of gaming and reaction speeds. I would talk about the part of the nervous system responsible for reflexes and such. I would get the data by making the students at my school take a reaction time test. I would then categorize the data into gamers and non-gamers. Should i add more criteria such as atheltes? Should i separate by age as well? I would like more input on this as I do not know what makes an EE good or bad. Input explaining on how to improve the topic or how the topic will not work is much appreciated, Any new topic suggestions are also welcome!! Which RQ is better? To what extent does fast paced video games affect reaction time, visual perception and decision making in teenagers? or What are the cognitive effects of fast paced video games on teenagers?

    Extended Essay Sylvia Plath

So in my IB english literature class we are studying sylvia plath's POEMS (not her novel). but for my EE i want to write about Sylvia Plath's NOVEL "the bell jar". is this allowed?
  5. Research Question: How do the authors of "Of mice and men" and "The Great Gatsby" explore the pursuit of the American Dream during different time periods? Hi, can you please advise me if my research question is either too broad for an English EE, and if it is how should I adjust it to make it more suitable? Also, I have already done a brief plan, which is to compare the similarities and differences in how the theme 'American Dream (AD)' is explored in the books during the Great Depression and the Roaring 20s, for instance in 'Of mice and men' the author explores the AD using different characters to represent unattainability of the AD; however, I am struggling on which aspects of the American Dream I should discuss about as well as the depth of exploration or analysis is needed. So at what depth should my analysis on the American Dream be? And how should I try to implement the different time periods within my analysis? Can anyone please help me as soon as possible, thank youuu!
  6. Hello, My name is Taha, I'm 17 years old, and currently in 12th grade. I'm looking for someone to help me with my Extended Essay. I've decided to focus my essay on quantum locking: including superconductors (YBCO), the Meissner Effect. I have access to the materials needed to experiment with this topic (materials from quantumlevitation.com). Some ideas I had in mind was to discuss the Meissner Effect in superconductors when cooled down to a critical temperature with liquid nitrogen. I was inspired to this topic when watching a talk on TED.com about quantum locking and quantum levitation (video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXHczjOg06w) This aim of this project is to study the properties of quantum levitation and locking and provide ways to improve the efficiency and speed of current transportation systems (high-speed trains, levitating cars, and hoverboards), and the idea of creating bearings with negligible friction. I will need help in formulating a research question that would be appropriate to the Extended Essay guidelines and know what is the best structure for my essay. Let me know if you can help me. Thanks,

    EE Help

Hello All, As you know by the title, I need EE help. Basically, I chose to do a biology EE cause it is my passion. At the beginning of our topic selection, I met with my advisor and told her that I wanted to do something with E.coli. Over the next several meetings I had with her, I decided upon studying how the different pH's of different foods inhibit E.coli growth. Long story short, on the LAST day of school my advisor tells me that I can no longer choose a topic that has to do with bacteria or else I will not score well. Apparently, IBO changed their guidelines that effected my class and when I asked my advisor about it she said: "yea, they can do that and we have to oblige". So I took about 1 day or so thinking about another topic I could do and landed on studying how different elements such as Nitrogen, Potassium, and Phosphorus inhibit the growth of a lima bean plant. So I got my materials and everything I needed to conduct my experiment and for the life of me, I have not been able to grow any seeds. All of the seeds which I have tried germinating or planting have died/failed/rot. That was 2 months ago. I have kept trying since then but to no avail. My rough draft of the EE is due on the first day of school 8/12/2019 and I do not know what to do. I have emailed my advisor multiple times and each time she has told me to either change my watering habits (which I have, I water once a day, and keep them in the sunniest part of my patio so they get the most sun), or to restart my seeds, or even keep trying. She even said she is baffled as to how I have not been able to grow such an easy plant. And now I am on the brink of a total mental breakdown and do not know what to do. My advisor told me I need some sort of data represented in my EE and if I have none, it will not be good. Can someone explain to me what would happen if my experiment for my EE does not go well? I would really appreciate it. Furthermore, I am in Florida, and all of the gardening departments of every store and independent gardening markets have stopped selling seeds as the season is coming to a close, which is making me even more frustrated now that I have no way of obtaining seeds. Someone, please help. Thank You.

    Urgently help needed for EE!

Hi! So i was originally going to work on The Bell Jar and The Yellow Wallpaper for my EE but since i found out that this has been done numerous times, I decided to change my topic last minute, hence the urgent help needed. I'm really into poetry so i figured i could use Sylvia Plath and Anne Sextons poetry to write a comparative essay as their poetry often revolves around the same topic. My rough draft is due in two weeks so i would really appreciate if someone could give me some feedback on whether 4000 words can actually be written about them. ( the poems i was thinking about using “The Colossus”, “Full Fathom Five”, “Daddy”, and Sexton’s “And one for My Dame” and “All My Pretty Ones”, these also intregrate feminist aspects which could be fun analysing) Thank you so much!
  10. So I am having trouble narrowing my question, I want to do my extended essay about the coral reefs dying and how this can affect the human kind. Is this a good topic? Im confused on how to make a RQ out of this.. any advice would help, thank you.
  11. My EE was due a few days ago but I still can't help but think and worry about it. I wrote my EE within a couple of hours without discussing it with my supervisor because I had made a new one a few days before the final submission. I'm really stressed out at this point. I know I'm the only one to blame for doing this to myself but I DO NOT want an E on my EE. My word limit was 3.9k words, my essay was relevant to the proposed question, I followed a proper structure for my essay and referenced everything that had to be referenced yet I'm still scared because my analysis of the text is quite repetitive. I mean, the texts that I analysed had a few similar points that related to my question, but still. And I even did my font in calibri, 1.5 spaced and my table of content is size 16, and my referencing is a mixture of Harvard and Chicago fml. I don't know what to do at this point honestly, I screwed myself over and I'll have to wait a few months until I finish my exams and everything to see whether I failed. This stress caused by the EE would be biting me on the back during the exams and I'm afraid I won't be able to perform well. I already know what I want to do in Uni but this EE is really putting my hopes down. How likely is it for someone to fail the EE? And how exactly do you fail the EE? I'm like, really really really stressed out here.

US Civil War - History EE RQ help

So I had an idea for a RQ for my History EE, but I'm not sure what question i should use. I know I want to do something about the US Civil War and the role that civic rights played in it. So for now my question is : What role did civil rights play during the different stages of the American Civil War? I'm not sure if the question is too precise or too vague, so if possible I would like certain guidance concerning the RQ. And if u have any better ideas for a EE concerning the Civil War, please let me know
  13. This is quite a long story but I'm going to make it as short as possible. So when I first got my EE form, I put English Literature as my subject and put my two suggested supervisors who are both familiar with the subject. However, I was given a completely different supervisor who bases her teaching on VA. Though she told me I can focus on any subject like History, English or VA since she majors on them on the first meeting I had with her. Moreover, the DP Coordinator a few months ago, asked what subject my EE was and I said English whilst I had already submitted a VA EE. I don't really know why I did that, I just didn't have a proper RQ at the time and my supervisor barely gave me any advice so I just went along with it so I could at least provide the EE Coordinator with some essay for the draft. But when I received the feedback for my VA EE, my SP literally made me change the whole focus of my research question, so I have to basically restart again before the final submission in four days. Instead of doing it on VA, I went back to my original EE subject which was on English Literature. I'm a lot more comfortable on basing my EE on English since I'm not very familiar with Art terms as much as I am with literary techniques. But the problem is that my supervisor is refusing to give me feedback on the topic because she claims she already gave her form in and it was based on my VA EE AND now she apparently can't mark my English EE because she hasn't taught English in her life before. (literally, the other person who has her for a SP did it on English?!?!?) Now the DP & EE Coordinator want me to stick with my VA EE and give the fees to change my registration from English to a VA EE. Like, I understand I made a mistake by submitting a VA EE when I wrote English down, but can't they just accept my new English EE and forget about the rest? I still have a few days to receive feedback, I don't really see what their issue is. So idk, I'm really confused. Should I just continue with making a new VA EE or just keep pestering them to accept my new English EE? My English teacher is willing to give me feedback for it, anyways. I seriously don't have time to fix the VA EE anymore, but with English, I'm a LOT more comfortable and confident doing it. Also, is it actually a rule to pay a fee of $500 to change the subject registration sent to the IB? My school insists that I pay for it.

    Film EE

so I've been thinking lots about what to do for my ee, and I was really interested in doing film, but they don't teach it at my school. I was wondering if there are any helpful textbooks for basic film studies or anything for the question i was planning to do, "How does the development of special effects, such as cgi and greenscreen, impact intergenerational appreciation for movies?" Even my question needs a little work, so if there's any other questions that can be made from a topic like this, that would be great.
  15. Hi guys, I'm doing my EE on Khaled Hosseini's two novels 'the kite runner' and 'a thousand splendid suns.' I'm planning on focusing on the importance of friendship and how the friendship between the characters of the two books lead them to carry on courageous acts. I'm struggling to form a proper research question and I'm unsure as to what I should really focus on. So, any feedback on this overall topic would be much appreciated :)

    EE Help!!

Hi everyone, I need help with something. I am doing my Extended Essay in Maths, had an idea, but my idea is not possible, realized too late, and now I have a Theorical Framework full of Derivates, Integrals and mainly Fourier series. So, I have one of two questions; 1. Is it possible to get a sinusoidal equation for this waveform? If not 2. Does anybody know something else I can do involving this things? Thanks
  18. The EE question I came up with was "To what extent is the market for airplane travel from Lisbon to Porto a contestable market?". Contestable markets is an economic theory invented in the early 1980s, that differs from the classical ones, and suggests that an oligopolistic or monopolistic market will provide at the productively efficient price, not the maximising MC = MR, because of the constant threat of new entrants taking way their market share. Airlines generally are an example, but it depends on the barriers to entry. This topic seems very interesting, and I have a lot of sources, but "Contestable markets" is not a topic in IB economics. Is it still ok to do this topic then? It's weird because my teacher said I can't, but I've found extended essay reports that have research questions that go outside the syllabus, including some about contestable markets. Can anyone tell me what the IB EE policy for this is? Thanks in advance Btw this is a repost
  19. Hi, I'm planning to write my EE based on my English B subject. I'm actually having quite a hard time forming a solid question, but I've thought of a couple of topics. - the book "No Longer Human" by Dazai Osamu. I could talk about how the author showcases the struggle of the main character, a social outcast, trying to fit in the society, before he decided to commit suicide. -"Animal Farm/1984" by George Orwell and how it reflects the modern society/government. Since I'm living in Thailand I'd mainly focus on the Thai politics. -How mental illness was portrayed by the show "13 reasons why," and what impact it may have on the viewers. These are the topics I've thought about so far. I really want to start my EE as soon as possible, but I'm still not confident about my research questions/topics. Please take some time to help me out. Thanks.

    BM EE on Amazon

Hi, I have come up with an RS "How does the acquisition of Whole Foods by Amazon impact its global market share in the e-commerce industry?", where it's mostly focused on researching on Amazon, especially its global market share. However, the internet and other sources have too much about Amazon and I am a bit confused and thrown back on which areas about Amazon should I research on. I plan on creating a checklist of basic areas I should research on so that I don't go off-track. Can I get some ideas about what should I be looking out for when researching? (like find statistics about its global market share, competitors and etc.) Many thanks in advance!
  21. Hello everyone. I've been trying to come up with a good research question for a philosophy EE and for the moment I just know that I would like to discuss the importance that utilitarianism (if it needs to be more specific I'd like to specifically discuss Mill's utilitarian perspectives) has had in the development of feminism. But I've been having great issues trying to properly structure my research question. Could someone please help me out? I'd appreciate it SO SO MUCH

    EE Film - Assessor

In my IB highschool, there is no subject such as Film. I know it is recommended not to do your EE on a subject that its not in your school. I have consciously decided to do it this way but I believe that I will get a better score if anyone could help e out. If your school has this subject and your ib teacher is willing to help me just for really little periods of time, just so I properly write the EE it will really help me out. I will be contacting him/her via gmail. If you guys have any advice I could really use it. Thanks, best regards to everybody.
  23. Hi, I am currently doing my extended essay on Economics and my intended RQ is To what extent does the food delivery platform industry has impacted the demand for dine-in service to restaurants of different price levels in X.
