Hi! im wondering how to solve these projectile motion problems: A particle is launched horizontally with a speed of 8.0 m s−1 from a point 20 m above the ground. a Calculate the time when the particle lands on the ground. b Determine the speed of the particle 1.0 s after launch. c Find the angle between the velocity and the horizontal 1.0 s after launch. d Determine the velocity with which the particle hits the ground. A soccer ball is kicked so that it has a range of 30 m and reaches a maximum height of 12 m. Determine the initial velocity (magnitude and direction) of the ball
2. IA help please! I can't get a linear relationship!

Hi guys! For my IA, I'm investigating on the relationship between time fall a parachute to fall and its surface area, but I can't get a linear relationship. The parachute didn't reach the terminal velocity, so the velocity is changing when the A is changing and it's also accelerating downwards. What can I do? Help please!!!!!

4. HIV (Strictly Research-Based) Biology Extended Essay

Hi IBSurvival Forum! As I am approaching my analysis portion of my research-based extended essay, I would be delighted to get some feeback on analysis I have planned and subsequent conclusion. Before I go into the main point of this post, my stubborn foolishness led me to stick to a Bio EE, and I would just like to say it is immensely difficult to write a biology extended essay that meets the IB requirement to a high standard. My supervisor happened to be the EE coordinator as well as my biology teacher and the essays she had supervised previously were all research-based essays. Out of the 13 she supervised, 5 got As and 4 got Bs. Hence, in her experiences, if a student had an above average aptitude in the biological sciences and were genuinely interested in the topic they were writing about, a research-based essay can succeed contrary to the popular belief. So my current topic is on the gene regulation in HIV proviral latencies, in specifics the epigenetic control of HIV genes. I am planning to compare two different epigenetic mechanisms (histone modification and DNA methylation) that have been hypothesized and shown to happen by different virologists and researchers, and, evaluate the effectiveness of each in gene silencing and activation using content from the Biology curriculum + additional knowledge. Finally, I would relate this back to HIV and whether one is indeed more effective than the other in the context of HIV latencies. Could I get any general feedback on this idea? Thank you in advance for any replies. ^.^ P.S. If you feel this is too brief, I would gladly PM or email the rest of what I have planned out.
5. I'm scared I might fail the IB because of my EE

My EE was due a few days ago but I still can't help but think and worry about it. I wrote my EE within a couple of hours without discussing it with my supervisor because I had made a new one a few days before the final submission. I'm really stressed out at this point. I know I'm the only one to blame for doing this to myself but I DO NOT want an E on my EE. My word limit was 3.9k words, my essay was relevant to the proposed question, I followed a proper structure for my essay and referenced everything that had to be referenced yet I'm still scared because my analysis of the text is quite repetitive. I mean, the texts that I analysed had a few similar points that related to my question, but still. And I even did my font in calibri, 1.5 spaced and my table of content is size 16, and my referencing is a mixture of Harvard and Chicago fml. I don't know what to do at this point honestly, I screwed myself over and I'll have to wait a few months until I finish my exams and everything to see whether I failed. This stress caused by the EE would be biting me on the back during the exams and I'm afraid I won't be able to perform well. I already know what I want to do in Uni but this EE is really putting my hopes down. How likely is it for someone to fail the EE? And how exactly do you fail the EE? I'm like, really really really stressed out here.
6. Choosing a topic for Bio EE

Hi, I am currently in the process of choosing a subject and topic for my EE and I still don't know what to do. Kind of stressed as we have to submit out proposal in two days so I really need some help. I am thinking of either doing a Biology EE or a world studies EE (combining economics and biology) For my Biology EE I am thinking of doing a research on which type of fertiliser can help best with plant growth? Do you guys think this is a good topic to investigate? Will it get me a high mark? On the other hand, for my world studies EE, I am thinking of looking into socioeconomics of countries such as comparing them and see how it affects the spread of diseases. For example, does richer countries do better in controlling the spread of diseases than poorer countries? (My teacher has suggested looking at maybe SARS and how different countries prevented it and compare, but my teacher said that it will be hard to find suitable datas to compare so I really don't know what I can do) Does anyone have any advice or ideas as to what I could do? Thank you!

8. Help with handwriting

Don't know how much you've seen this kind of question but here it goes... Yeah, it's awful, really awful! "Looks 'nice' but unreadable" (lol what does it mean?) Don't think I haven't done a thing about it. Here the stuff I did to improve my handwriting: -Changed pen grip (worsened handwriting *facepalm*) -Practiced "drawing" letters for 6 months (no effect ) -Changed from cursive to print (made it worse) -back to cursive (no effect) In other words, my handwriting is even worse now by practicing it. Any ideas appart from taking my lil' bros's handwriting book (which I used for practice)? Or "drawing" the letters? I'm asking as I proved that my handwriting does decrease my exam grades pretty badly (even math O_O). Chances I may not even succeed IGCSE if the examiners won't even bother reading all the good stuff I write if it doesn't look nice to the eye/the brain cannot interpret it to words. I don't want just stupid advice teachers give me like get a better pen (it is already a really good one that write very smoothly and has a good-sized nib). Thanks if you answer :D. P.S: obviously can count as service to your CAS (if you do actually have your supervisor do the arpoval thing) because you are helping

Hi Please help me fill up a really quick survey for my math IA. All you have to do is rate the models honestly! Thank you
10. Presentation Is my TOK presentation question OK?

Hey Guys! I've changed my knowledge question like 3 times already and I think I'm gonna go for this one - "to what extent do ways of knowing alter our beliefs" The real-life situation is cigarettes commercials in the 1950s' that used to deceit people into thinking that smoking is healthy Do you think it's a good question? Thank you!!
11. I need help IB students

The first thing i would like to know is that, in your IB programs do your teachers communicate with each other so that they don't plan tests or assignments on the same day so they don't overwhelm the students? I'm going through a difficult time since my IB coordinator has told my class of 2020 that if we joined IB that it would be tough and challenging but the teachers talk to each other and plan their schedules so they don't overwhelm us. Some of the teachers talk to each other but rarely .... I spoke out about this since at this point in the school year their is so much stuff like assignments, projects, AP tests, finals due all in so little time and its just not me who feels overwhelm its other students in my class. I talked and explained to my IB coordinator about all that is going on and he sent out an email in response, to all the teachers and some are mad at me for speaking out about this. What should i do next and did i do anything wrong please help cause i don't know what to do and i don't want to make this problem into a bigger one.
12. Physics EE

For my physics EE I decided to look at gravity and stability(my topic) and "how does the loading of a truck affects the shift of the central gravity and how that shift affects the tipping point of a truck if its in a stationary position?"(research question) . For my experiment I've used blocks of different masses that I placed on a aluminium platform using different variation. Where aluminium platform is like a truck platform and the blocks that I used act like loading. So basically I placed them in different ways and looked at the which angle each object will tip over. In my essay I will show how does the central gravity shifts and how it actually affects the tipping point. Furthermore, I want to convert the masses that I used into real life masses, to show that if the mass goes over the limit mass then its becomes dangerous. I am also connecting it to many real-life situations from Africa, where many trucks are overloaded and very often they tip over on the road. I will also explain how can suspension and speed decrease or increase the tipping point. Could someone give me any ides how I could improve my ideas or even my topic or research question, so my essay is not that broad. Thanks
13. Chem EE discussion

Hello I'm a new DP 1 student and I started looking for ideas for my EE. I decided to pursue chemistry as my subject and I have a solid topic in mind, but it's not wide enough. I'm going to investigate differents cuts of meat of different ages and I'll compare the values of protein and fats in each. What can I do else? And how can I make this a proper topic? What experiments can I execute? If you're not allowed to help me, just tell me how I can find the experiment needed... Thank you in advance.
14. St. Robert pre- IB Program - HELP ME 😭

Hello kind humans who have stumbled upon this post: I applaud your effort to find this topic, please allow me to introduce moi, moi-self et moi. I am currently am, at the moment a student attending grade 8 at the York region PUBLIC school board, and I’m attending St. Robert Catholic School in Thornhill, Ontario for the 2020-21 school year, and will graduate at St. Robert (hopefully) in the spring of 2024. I have successfully made it into the predatory IB program at the school and have already submitted that gigantic package that came after the acceptance letter and gave it to the office, accepted with no problem. But, since it is a York Region CATHOLIC school, and I’m transferring from a public school I’m not going to be able to select my courses through the MyBlueprint/MyPathwayPlanner system like everyone else staying in the public school system. I am aware that YRCDSB also has the same system; but I cannot access that system to put in my courses, and all course selection is on that sheet that I gave to the office. Is that enough information to have me get into the required pre-ib classes at St. Robert? Because the high school panic is also staring to set in because I’m seeing everybody choose courses at guidance while I sit and do nothing because I’m “that” kid who’s going to a catholic school. Also, I am also aware of the fact that I need to take a full course load, plus religion. I’m wondering if the religion takes up one elective slot or is there some courseload schedule that has 8 courses instead of the 5 requirements, two electives, plus one religion? Thanks for coming on this topic, hope you can give an answer! Will be looking forward to a reply thanks! Thanks sheeple, Weird 8th grade human being.
15. I can't do this anymore

Hi everyone First post here. I am 17 and in my junior year of IB. I just completed the first semester exams and did absolutely rubbish. I created around 20 pages of revision by hand and said to myself I would study more for this exam than any other. Here are my awful results. Economics: 3 (yikes!) English: 4 (close to a 5) ESS: 4 (very close to a 5) French: 6 Maths: 5 I take economics, English, and visual arts for my HL. I expect visual arts to get a 6 or 7, but I need to raise my grades in English from a 4 to a 6 and in economics from a 3 to at least a 5. I have no clue how I'm gonna do that in time for my predicted grades. I have no ambition in anything. I'm currently thinking about studying music but I really really don't want to do anything. I have no ambition. I don't want to go to college. Everything I've ever tried I've failed at. I am suicidal again. I see no future for me. Help me please

After welllll past 24 hours of brainstorming, I have nothing to show for it. Despite my ideas being somewhat creative and interesting, they are deemed unworthy by my holy chem teacher. It seems like no matter what I do I can't either measure or even investigate the topic. Cab anyone please help me?
17. EE Psychology: bilingual education and childhood development

I have a topic idea, but am seeking advice as well as help forming a question. I plan on researching the effect bilingual education (second language acquisition?) has on childhood development within psychology. I plan to look specifically on education and brain development. First off, does that seem like a possible topic? I've never taken a psychology class, and my school does not offer DP psych. Any advice on how to approach it in a psychology standpoint would be very appreciated! Secondly, I need help refining a question. I think I will word it as: To what extent does second language acquisition affect childhood development? or something like that. I'm having trouble coming up with question starters other than "what" or "to what extent". Again, any advice is appreciated! Thanks!!
18. IB Extended Essay on Nutrition/Foods

Hello. I've been trying to find a topic and research question for my extended essay but I have been unable to do. I have found an experimental technique in the calorimeter which measures energy content/calories and I want to measure energy contents in different foods but I do not know what I should investigate specifically and expand on this. I don't want it to be as simple as "as x increases, y increases". Testing out different foods and seeing which one(s) have the higher calories is way too simple and I'm basically stuck..Please help!
19. Help with IA plzzzz!!!

Writing my math IA and I want to do something with earthquakes, but I have no idea where to start. I’ve been thinking about maybe doing epicenters or the Richter scale but I can’t find a solid way to incorporate them. If anyone has any ideas please reply!
20. Computer Science IA- Complexity

Hi all. I am working on my Computer Science IA, and am worried about Criterion C- Complexity. Apparently complexity can be added by adding features into our code, like recursion, 2D arrays etc, but is it ok to add these features even if it worsens the program's performance/slows it down, but does the job? I can then talk about how it might not have been the most effective solution in the evaluation section. Would this work?

Where do I address why these are outliers? So I take them out?
25. My English A teacher tricked me for the EE - help

Hi all! So basically, I had a topic ready for my EE, but then my teacher, who is also my EE mentor, decided that she wanted to put the book that I am researching for my EE as a free-choice for my English class, Little did I know, there is a new rule stating that we can't write EE's on books that we analyze in class, so now I have to change my topic and I need help. I was thinking of doing something on how eating disorders are portrayed in literature, and thus focusing on couple of literary works. Please, if you are a genius and now how to formulate EE questions, and/or know of a good book about eating disorders, please help me out. I will be forever grateful! I wish u all the luck (cause we're IB students and we need it).
