    HL Economics or History ?

I'm joining IB in April and I've take the following subjects- HL-English, Economics and History SL-ESS, Maths Applications and Interpretations, French ab inito. My school is telling me that I can't take both economics and history as subjects as they clash in the school's time table. Hence, I have been told to opt out of either one and take psychology HL instead. I want to study International Relations in the US and then go to law school so what do you suggest I do; should I leave econ or history ? I've heard econ is easy to score in and hist requires a lot of hard work and commitment however I am ready to take up that challenge and I love history. But what is more important for International Relations? Econ or Hist? I'm so heartbroken because I have zero interest in psychology and I will have to study it. And my actual HL combinations were killers for uni. I don't know what to do now.

    EE History

Hi, I am currently in G10 and G11 is about to start in two months. I haven`t decided whether I`ll do EE in Japanese or History yet. I take both as HL. I actually wanted to do it in History because history is more interesting than Japanese to me. And my history teacher told me that the world average for History EE is C and I think it's pretty bad! Is it true that the average is C? And do you have any ideas about the topic for EE Japanese?
  5. I'm planning to do Economics at the UK for uni and was wondering which HL would be better for me, psych or history HL? My other subjects: HL - Math, Economics SL - Biology, Eng Lang Lit, French ab initio Thanks in advance!

  7. Which subject do you think is easier, English Language & Literature HL or History HL? My other subjects: HL: Math - Economics - English Lang & Lit / History SL: French ab initio - Biology - English Lang & Lit / History I had recently read from a lot of discussions that History HL is considered to be one of the HARDEST subjects of the IB, and with my subject combination already including Math HL (possibly the hardest subject), I am worried about the heavy workload I am going to face next year. The reason why I'm deciding wether I should choose either History or English at HL, it's due to the requirement that I need at least one essay subject HL for my future degree. So between English Lang & Lit and History HL, which one do you think is the easier one? Thanks in advance!

URGENT HELP WITH HISTORY IA TOPIC

Hi, I have to pick a topic that isn’t too broad and I’m having difficulty with that. At first I was planning to do “Castro’s economic and social influence on the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis” but my teacher said it was too much of a broad topic He said : “If I can make a suggestion, I think that your question might be a bit too broad. Naturally, Fidel Castro had a hand in shaping events, but remember that the decision to place missiles on Cuban soil was part of a wider Soviet strategy. If you want to talk about Castro's impact on it, you'll want to clarify by looking at the degree to which he influenced Soviet policy-makers” What exactly would be a good topic to fit the teachers suggestion? I LITERALLY NEED HELP IN THE NEXT TWO DAYS. PLEASE IF YOU CAN HELP FAST!!!! thank you so much your fellow ib student

    History EE question Help

Hi, I'm planning on writing my EE in History. I am focusing on the period of Vietnam from around 1980 -1990 , this is the transitioning period in which there was this thing call reform/rejuvenation , a transitioning period from a more centralised almost everything and centrally planned market to a more capitalist and private owned business after the party failed with centralisation and state owned and all the 5 years plan. I struggle to narrow the scope or to come up with a question. I wanted to compare before and after the reform but my teacher said that's not a great idea since I cant measure how effective something is , etc . So I was wondering where can I go with this? Im also considered looking into Ho Chi Minh himself, would that be a good idea? What aspect of Ho Chi Minh can I look at then hasnt been too much research before. Since I am from Vietnam , I'll be able to look for primary evidence . I'm just struggling to come up with ideas for question. THank you so much in advance , please I am desperate first draft due in March.
  10. Can i do a history IA on art history? It feels like everyone is doing history from the pov of wars and international relations and politics, but i'm really interested in art history (not propaganda, just art). Can I do it? What could i focus on for example?
  11. Hello! I've decided to concentrate on the antimafia movement's history in Italy for my history HL IA, especially on the grassroots levels and general population's opinion, and how they influenced larger movements on a national level such as Libera. I really don't know how to turn this into a question for an analytical study. Can you help me? Also, do you think the topic is too broad? Thank you

    History EE: Cambodian Genocide

Hi everyone, I'm in my first year of the IB and so I am just getting started on my extended essay in history and have decided on the topic of the Cambodian Genocide under Pol Pot. However, I'm not sure what to have as my research question or whether the ideas that I do have are too broad for it, I would like to focus on the year zero policy and what actually happened but I don't want the essay to end up being very narrative as I know that's not what the IB seems to be looking for. I've made a list of some ideas for titles below and any input on which to choose or further suggestions for research questions would be greatly appreciated: 1) What was the year zero policy and how did it affect Cambodia? 2) To what extent was the year zero policy the key reason for the Cambodian Genocide? (any help on other key reasons would be greatly appreciated for this one) 3) How did the political theory of 'Year Zero' wipe out 25% of the Cambodian population when implemented? Thank you so much for any help provided in advance!

    EE research question

Hey! Sooo... I'm about to begin writing my extended essay, and though I've got some ideas I liked to write about, I'm somewhat stuck with the research question. Could someone help me design (or give ideas) for a research question to begin writing about?? Or maybe tell me some tips if you're writing / wrote on these subjects?? I'm trying to decide myself between writing about the Naval Technologies implemented during the XVIIth century because of the Pirates (defense mechanisms, bigger, fatter ships, etc.) or Spanish Linguistics, maybe jewish influence on the language. Thanks!! I'll appreciate all your help 😅 Lukas

    EE Topic Help

I am interested in subjects such as History and World Religions and I also want to incorporate my passion for technology within my topic. (side question: would the topic "Radar changed the engineering/battle strategy, tactics of WW2" be good enough or is it too narrow or broad?) Thanks for the help. Much love :)

    IB History Extended Essay Help

Hey y'all, I have started my EE research and I was wondering if this is a good research question: "To what extent was the Great Purge (1936-1938) in the Soviet Union a result of Stalin and his Politburo?" The reason I chose this was because historians debate whether the cause of the purge was on the ruthless nature of Stalin and his politburo, or whether it was a combination of Stalin and regional leadership that pushed the purge too far. The difficulty I'm finding is that it's hard for me to create a single clear argument because there is so much debate on it and I don't think that one is necessarily right over the other. Help would be much appreciated.

    Russia History IA OPVL Help

Hi Everyone! I am doing my history IA and I am stuck on the limitations of this particular book. What are some general limitations of books I could mention in the OPVL? Or if any of you know this book or author specifically: A History of Russia by Riasanovsky. My IA is on Stolypin's agrarian reforms. Thank you.
  18. Hello! I'm currently writing an extended essay for history about Nazi education in Germany and how it was implemented. This is my current research question: "How did Nazi Education Policies affect the growth of the Third Reich in Germany?" However, I've found that the question's phrasing isn't conducive to analysis. My essay is becoming more and more narrative, but I'm not sure how to fix it. I'd love some help with fixing my question! Thank you!
  19. So, my class was told that our EE's are due next year in May and our first draft is due in a few weeks. I heard History is a great subject to look into for the EE but our teacher advised us not to focus on it since our class doesn't take that subject anymore ( ☹️ ). Anyway, I plan on finishing my TOK, CAS and EE before the year so I can focus on my studies next year. Unfortunately, I still haven't come up with a satisfactory topic yet for EE. I thought of doing it on the Western influence on Japanese art but I doubt I'd find any articles or information that could potentially build a 4,000 word essay. So I was hoping if anyone could please give me some interesting topics for EE I could perhaps look into, preferably English or History (my supervisor is a major in both these subjects, so it won't matter). Please help me, I'm actually really stressed out and worried about this.
  20. My chosen topic is how Nazi propaganda and media contributed to the creation of a totalitarian state under Hitler, and my research question was “To what extent did Nazi control of the media and propaganda enable the creation of a totalitarian state under Hitler?” However, my teacher has told me that the scope is was too large and it is too broad, hence I need help trying to narrow this down. Any tips or help is appreciated Tysm
  21. Hi! I was wondering if anyone could look over my History IA question and offer any criticism or concerns that they notice. I've been kinda struggling to get this question to sound good and I'm worried that it could be too judgemental... The question is: "To what extent did Andrew Jackson fulfill his received title of the people’s president?"

IA on a movie? Help please!

So my IA draft is due in about 10 days and I figure I should start on it soon, and my teacher isn't answering my texts, wonderful! I want to do my topic on the how accurately the movie Argo (2012) represents the Iranian hostage crisis and the rescue operation. Is this appropriate, especially with such a recent movie? if anyone has any examples of old IAs done on movies that they could share that would be great! Thanks a bunch
  24. Hi there! So we are currently on the stage of finalising what topic we want to do for our EE and I am doing mine in History, but am having some trouble choosing which one to do. I really want to get an A or B on the extended essay, so need a topic that sounds like it has a lot of good material in order for me to get a high grade So the topic I am currently interested in are: - How the African National Congress with Nelson Mandela was influenced by the Indian independence movement with Mahatma Gandhi and why peaceful protests worked in India, but not in Africa (this could possibly also explore ideas of terrorists vs freedom fighters? I'm not sure) - Princess Sophia's (From India) impact and influence on the suffragettes' movement in England - An exploration of Britain's rule on India and what kind of negative impacts that had (Maybe also explore the idea of whether or not Britain should pay reparations to India --> this idea came from the novel 'inglorious empires' by Shashi Tharoor) Any help is appreciated!! Thanks :))

    Cold War Essay

Hi there! I'll be writing a essay on the Origins of the Cold War, and I'm slightly confused on how exactly I should structure it. I know that the three big conferences were important towards breaking the Grand Alliance, but I'm not too sure what else I can touch upon. Is there a way that you guys could help me a bit? So far, I guess I could talk about the ideological differences, politically?, but I'm not too sure what else I could say... Thank you all so much in advance!!
