Hey y'all so this is my first time posting but I have to come up with my EE topic and i'm not quite sure how to phrase it. I have a general idea of what I want to do, but I want to do it on Coral and its symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae. However im not sure what my research question should be...Any ideas? Anything would be much appreciated!!!
Im planning on doing either effects of different glucouse concentration on cellular respiration (CO2 production), or effects of different substrates on cellular respiration (CO2 production) using glucose maltose fructose sucrose. I will be using yeast to create the CO2. Teacher wants me to branch this idea and take it to a more unique level. My questions: 1. I know that this is probably overdone, but I am struggling due to lack of creativity to vary this simple (?) experiment procedure and make it unique enough for the reader. 2. Is it acceptable to state that my curiosity came from learning the cellular respiration concept in-class and wanting to apply and see the concept at play in a real world application Not asking for someone else to come up with something necessarily, but just really struggling so any suggestions will be valuable to me. Thanks a lot!
Hello, I have to submit my topic and design for my biology extended essay by this Friday (tomorrow! ), and I have a topic and rough idea of what I would like to do, though I was wondering if I can get some advice and guidance for which way to take my experimenting. (an answer asap would be much appreciated ! ) So my topic is within the plant sciences and my research question is How does exposure to vibration and sound affect the growth rate of Raphanus sativus L.? *(Should I measure the growth rate, or the germination rate? would either be fine? and if they are, what would be the best way to carry out each?) So my plan so far is to place equal amount of seeds in 5 petri dishes and grow them in a controlled environment for five days for each trial. Each petri dish would have their own source of vibration (most likely from a cell phone, unless anyone has another idea ) placed at least 15.24 cm (6 inches away; all distances would be the same as it is a control) from the petri dish, and I would expose each petri dish (except for the control dish) to vibration for different lengths of time (ex: dish one- 2 hrs, dish two- 4 hrs etc) for five days. The same method would apply to the test with sound, only with a new set of seeds. The sound is a single pitch played continuously from the same distance, and is also played from a cell phone. How does that sound? Any suggestions or improvements? Any ideas for the aspect of analysis and things I should mention? Thank you in advanced !
IBbio_1 posted a topic in Biology and ESSHow am I supposed to include a 5X5 experimental design (5 forms of independent variable with 5 repeats of the experiment) for this particular lab?? It seems fairly simple, so I'm not quite sure how I would obtain the 5 forms of independent variables... so far I only have two independent variables... Research question: How will different temperatures affect chemical reactoin of the enzyme catalayse in hydrogen peroxide? What I have so far: Independent variable= temp of potato; hydrogen peroxide. Dependent variable= reaction time in test tube through measuring time taken for paper to float to top of test tube. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!
