    Going up to 5 HLs

Hey guys, I wanted to know if it is possible to take 5 HLs instead of the 4 I have been taking for the past school year. Keep in mind that mocks are in less than a month. The class I want to bring up to HL is Economics, as I think the Paper 3 will benefit me a lot as I'm a very mathematically-inclined student. So far, Paper 1s have really been giving me trouble and all my classmates say Paper 3s are much easier than Paper 1s. Thoughts? These are my classes currently: HL Math, HL Physics, HL Chem, HL Arabic B SL English LAL, Economics
  5. What kind of effect does legislation have on a negative externality of consumption diagram? Do production costs increase and thus supply shifts to the left? Or does demand decrease? Or does it depend on the context and both could happen?
  6. Hey everyone! I will be doing IBDP next year, and I have chosen PPE as my future course in the university. However, I am not sure about my IB subjects. I have a list of my choices : Azerbaijani A (my first language) SL English B SL/HL Maths HL Biology or ESS SL (not sure about it because i dont need neither of them, i just want to get the easiest one) which one should I choose? Economics HL Global Politics or Geo or History HL/SL ( I am not sure about this one either because people recommend me each and every of them, I think global politics would me more useful but I’m not sure) which one would be more useful?
  7. Hello everyone! I need some help, apparently because I started coming late to school for 3 weeks (I know it's my fault), my school is dropping me to IBCP, but my uni wants IBDP, what do I do?! How do I convince them not to drop me?? I'm really freaking out, my career depends on this plz help!! ;(
  8. Okay so a year ago a joined this school which had just started IBDP. I thought because it's new it will be better and they will pay more attention to us. We are only five kids. Four of us are not from India, (this is a school in India). Three of us are from Thailand and one is from Canada. So it's been a whole year and so far there are only some subjects we have done IB related. the rest the teachers are trying to make it as bookish as possible, because (a) The teachers have not trained according to the IBDP curriculum, (b) they are teachers of the CBSE board and they don't like the IB way of teaching. The teachers really seem to hate us because they can't control us or the way IB is taught. And if we complain, nobody acts on it because they think we are rebelling. Also some of the teachers never tell us anything about the actual exam. Like they themselves don't know anything about past papers. Whenever we have tests some teachers are so biased they literally mark us according to which student they like best. We have tried talking to everyone but nobody listens to us. And I feel we are jeopardising our future and wasting our time here. We go for any activity and they say that the IB kids are always roaming around and the CBSE kids are better, which is seriously very dis motivating. Secondly all they make us do is study from the books. We never have PE. In CAS they make us sit on the computer and make us write reflections. I am so lost and I feel emotionally drained. Is there any way to contact the IB board about this
  9. Hi! I currently need to choose subjects for IBDP year 1. I am having some difficulties since I am not exactly sure what I really want to do and I understand that choosing right subjects is very important when applying to universities. I think I am pretty much into engineering and computer science. However, I am also very passionate about Arts so I want to keep the industrial design as an option. So here's my question: 1) Do universities usually require Visual Art HL for industrial design? What are some requirements that I would need to fulfill in order to take ID? 2) What subjects would you recommend me taking if I am interested in ID, engineering, and computer science (I know my area of interest is quite broad now... I would love to keep it open for two years tbh because I change my mind a lot) 3) Would it be possible to do engineering/computer science as my undergraduate course and do ID as a postgraduate course? Thanks
  10. Hello I am currently in year 1. I have contemplated to redo the IBDP course as my family decided to move to another country and I heard that it is hard to restart IBDP in new school. However, I am not sure whether I am already registered IBDP in my current school. So I was wondering, when are students usually register through IBDP? *The email that I got from new school asked me to check whether I am registered IBDP. I am guessing that this means IBDP exam... but I am not to sure Please help me!!! Thank you very much

    1 month for the finals

Hello guys! one month is remaining for the finals. and every ib student right now needs tips and tricks to do their best. PLEASE HELP! alumni!! PLS PLS HELP
  12. Hi everyone, This might sound very retarded and I know I messed up a bit. I got my IBDP in May 2016 with a 35/45 with a 3/3 for TOK+EE. My 2 best subjects were Bio and chem HL throughout the 2 years as I had continuous 7s. Unfortunately I had a surgery a few months before the final exams which cost me 2 months of classes missing out on time to do my IAs, EE and I also missed a lot of the portion for the exams. My 2 best subjects ended up having the worst grades in my finals. (I know i hate my luck) I got a 5 in bio (missed a 6 by 1) and Got a 4 in chem (I WAS HORRIFIED). I'm applying for medschool so even though my 35 is way above the avg ib score I needed better scores in bio and chem. I am retaking them to improve my scores. I had to give my UKCAT in between and did exceptionally well in that and IELTS. I jut wrote my bio test and am expecting a high 6 or a 7. I was always more interested in bio than chem so i spent all my time reading and preparing for that. I also feel like I didn't like IB chem after my chem teacher changed for some reason. It felt more hard to read and concentrate on. Now i have 4 days till my IB Chem retake and I haven't revised anything. I'm petrified and every time i touch the huge textbook i get a flashback of my results and the night before the original exam when i realized I blanked out completely. It would be amazing if anyone can help me by telling what I can do in these 4 days to make my 4 atleast into a 5. I have a good IA score. I just need to make it a 5. I feel like the textbook is too big and I will jsut be demotivated to read even a bit if i try to use the textbook. Are there any youtube videos or revision pages you could suggest which would help me meet the Grade 5 boundary? Thanking you. ( I hope no one else has to ever go through this. I know its my fault as well as I didnt equally divide time for both bio and chem)
  13. I want to study Constructional Engineering or Building Engineering further in university. But I don't know what subjects do I need to take in Diploma Programme. I'm thinking about such combinations: Physics HL Maths HL English B HL Economics SL ITGS SL (another language) SL Some advices? Thanks.
  14. hi, I'm a fellow ''IBBER'' and I had a question. So I wanted to do my presentation on WikiLeaks. In general how does the format of the presentation look like, so next to the knowledge question (if someone could help me formulate one, would be great because I still don't understand them), and the real life example of Wikileaks and ways and areas of knowing , how do we set up our presentation? Do we introduce the topic? then say a couple sentences of the question and then go to the areas and ways? Our teacher never really told us to do them and how they should look like. I am shooting for a 7-8 score wise...
  15. Hello all, first post so apologies if this is in the wrong section. I'm currently part of the IBCP (Career-program) in field of art, having just started IB2. However, I am currently thinking of switching to medical for various reasons, and would need to drop to DP and catch up on Chemistry, Bio (HL) and Math (SL), and probably switch from English L to L&L (as Lit is too confusing, even with a PG 6). So four subjects to learn. The remainder 2 subjects I'm quite confident in. I am not 100% strong in sciences/math (personally know I'll enjoy physiological and anatomical aspects more in med school) but have been offered to go to tutoring to make up holes in my foundation for those subjects in order to get my foot into the university door. I don't quite self-study well, I'm probably better working with someone/a teacher. Friends and family are split between my options, and further split between if I'm suitable for medicine or not. My options currently are to go back to IB1 and start immediately in Year 12 (catch up on everything/relearn and graduate a year late) or to finish the CP and continue on to foundation/A-levels/SATS to meet the non-IB requirements, as the CP would not meet the IB requirements, even with a graduate entry. Fees to do the one year foundation (not sure about A-levels but must be approximately the same) are the same as re-doing IB and I will also need to do the UKCAT. Quite limited in terms of choices using the IBCP, plus international student status. Deadline to register for UKCAT is over anyways, I think. So I'd like to ask for your view as a stranger on this situation. What should I do? Additionally, do you think the medical schools will care about the change?(Quite competitive and academic-oriented but they also allow for graduate entry/entry from other fields as long as you meet requirements.) Even if I were to stop pursuing medicine, would re-doing the IB be better options wise? Current cost for one year at the university I am attending is six years at a local one, so finances (and being only child to support parents and family) have to be taken into consideration as well. My deadline for an answer is due next week (this situation has also unfortunately impacted everyone around me and caused a lot of strain). I will be calling the medical schools I wish to attend tomorrow morning on whether this will impact my application (especially as my reasons for career change relate to the CP program and my experiences). Thanks for any help that can be offered!

    Subject Reports

Hi! I really wanted all the latest subject reports. I thought by reading them it would really help the student community with their IAs, EEs and written papers. Could someone please provide a link here or post them or email them to me. Please share whatever subject reports you have, especially May 2016 Thanks so much!

    Subject combination

I am about to enroll the IB DP programme by the end of summer. I am a little concerned about my subject combination for being too rigorous. I am up for a challenge, yet a bearable one. In the future, I would like to study at uni in the US. However, I am not sure in what area I may want to study in. But I'm leaning towards Economics/Finance and/or environmental sciences. (Hence why I have both Econ and Bio at HL). Overall, I was wondering if you could share any thoughts on what you think about my subject combination. Is it reasonable considering my future plans? Also, as English is my second language, would you suggest me to do B or A2 at HL. Note that I will be having Swedish A2 SL as well. But please leave some thoughts based on experience regarding English B and A2 at HL. I am not that much into literature, to be honest I hardly ever read. But with the right mindset I could still be willing to learn the "literature" part, I just don't want to struggle too much with it since English (language-wise) has otherwise (so far) been a strong subject of mine. Could it in general make it easier to have 2 subjects in A2, since the structure may be similar, or is it easier to just have one A2 and the other one as B HL as the workload perhaps becomes less (?). Subject combination: English B / A2 HL Economics HL Biology HL Math SL Swedish A2 SL Physics SL Also, what topic did you write your EE on? Simply curious as I have no idea what EE's are all about. Oh and btw, is it possible to write your EE on a combination of two subjects? Thanks a lot!!

    IB Advice

Hello everyone, I'm currently a sophomore investigating the difference between the IB Diploma and AP courses and my started the IB Diploma this past year. I live in a urban area and there has been a lot of hype towards the IB at my school and considering it's new there is a lot of pros and cons towards the programme. Pros: - The UC's (University of California) award 30 units if the candidate gets a 30 out of 45 in the program's exams - Good preparation of college apparently - More rigorous than AP - Develops critical thinking skills - Saves money on tuition Cons: - Workload is high - Very time consuming - Apparently it's viewed the same as AP - GPA might drop I mean there are some 'junior' friends that went the AP route and all of a sudden told me not to do it because friends will be separated and then I have to sacrifice a lot of things. Well I found out most of my friends are gonna do the program. But I'm not doing it because of friends, I want to research before I make a decision and clearly that is my situation at this point. But however as I analyze it, the exams are way impacted and are FRQ-based like AP. I want to major in Political Science and TOK might help in terms of the logic and philosophical values but I'm also hearing that you might be behind in college but apparently prepares you for that college experience. I went to the sophomore slump phase this year and it was a really agonizing matter to go through. But however I want to find answers if it's right for me: Here is what my school offers (and we have a block schedule: 4 periods this day, 4 periods that day) Group 1 – Studies in language and literature IB English HL1 + IB English HL2 (senior year) Group 2 – Language acquisition IB Spanish HL or SL 1 > IB Spanish HL or SL 2 Group 3 – Individuals and societies AP Psychology (junior year) -> IB Psychology HL 2 Group 4 – Sciences AP Chemistry -> IB Chemistry SL AP Physics -> IB Physics SL Group 5 – Mathematics Algebra 2 -> IB Math Studies Pre-Calculus -> IB Math SL AP Stats -> IB Math SL AP Calc -> IB Math SL (new for the class of 2018 at our school) Group 6 – The arts IB Visual Arts HL1 -> IB Visual Arts HL2 What I signed up for: AP US History AP English Algebra 2 Tutorial Chemistry Constitutional Law Philosophy Leadership Clearly, that's the route I'm going at this point but I'm considering it and see if it's worth it. I heard they offer tutoring after school and such. But honestly, what do you think?

    I need one more subject!

Hey guys, the subjects I have chosen so far (I'm starting the DP in August) are: HL German Literature HL Biology HL Economics SL English Language & Literature SL Mathematics Originally, my plan was to take French B SL as my sixth subject, since I am an absolute language person, but this is no longer offered as not enough people have elected it. Now, I am not sure what to pick. The possibilities are: -Drama -Spanish B -Geography -Chemistry I really cannot decide! Right now, I've opted for geography because I've heard from multiple sources that it is fairly easy, although I am not actually interested in it at all. I don't believe that drama would suit me, because, judging from my own experience, it is an immense amount of work and can also be quite tedious. I'm not sure if I would manage Spanish B, as I only had it for years 8 and 9 and I don't know whether I could catch up to the required level, although I do like languages a lot! Lastly, I'm simply scared of chemistry, although from what I've heard there's not a lot of memorising you have to do. What would you guys recommend? And also, what do you think of my subject choices in general? Would you say that it's fairly well-rounded, considering I don't really know what to do yet? Thank you so much!

How to fill out UCAS Education!?

I'm not completely sure on how to fill out the education section on the UCAS application. I attend an American high school, which goes from grades 9-12. But for 11th grade, I started the IB Diploma Programme. I'm currently in my second year of IB (grade 12). Do I need to fill out all my high school grades or do I mention only IB And If I need to fill out all my american grades(9-10th grade), which qualification is that?? Thanks.

    Written Task 2

I have a question about Written Task 2, regarding the question "How and Why is a Social Group Represented in a Certain Way?". My teacher says we could talk about more than one social group and that this will show a larger scope of understanding, but would it really give a better grade (writing skills aside), or is it wiser to stick to one social group? Any other input regarding WT2 and the selected question would be much appreciated. Thanks!

    Group 6: Econ or Theatre?

I'm starting the IB tomorrow, but my school is giving a week to make changes. As of right now, my group 6 subject is theatre. I love theatre. I am really passionate about it and I want to take a master's degree in Theatre Directing, something I would love to do in the future. I love theatre, and it's the one thing in my life I'd keep doing even if I fail, because I love it so much. However, I need an undergraduate degree (Theatre directing is not available). So far I've been thinking of Human Sciences or Psychology and Linguistics, but a third option has come to mind: Population health. There is no specific IB requirement for that, but I think that Economics would definitely help. I really like theatre, but should I change it to Economics instead? Any other input about those two subjects in general will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

    IBDP -- Which School?

Hey all, So my parents are thinking of moving me to another school for my IBDP, but I like my current school. I'd love some of your thoughts on which school is "better". Current School: -IB Average of 30, though this year it's a predicted 35 (predicted). -Alumni have attended NYU, Berkeley, UCLA, Several Russell Group Unis, Parsons, but not Ivies/Oxbridge. -Does not offer English Lit. -Lots of friends, therefore more CV/CAS opportunities. -The CAS teacher wants me to lead a community service event next year, I'll create a program for our students and we'll travel to an island and do some community service in collaboration with a local charity organisation. -Active in Student Council, MUN, School Journal, etc. If I were to stay in this school, I would take: English A Lang/Lit HL, Indonesian A Lit SL, Biology HL, Psychology HL, Math SL, and Theatre SL. Other School: -IB Average of 35 -Alumni have attended Oxbridge, Columbia, Cornell, Russell Group Unis, etc. -The only school in the country who offers an English Lit course. -They don't have a psychology class, it's an online course via Pamoja and I'm taking Psych HL so it will definitely be harder. -My biggest concern is that I will not have a lot of friends. This may seem childish but it's not about being popular, it's about the fact that I may not be able to get positions demonstrating my leadership skills if people don't like me. I know that unis, US unis specifically, want to see a good CV/CAS and I'm afraid that few friends = few leadership opportunities = mediocre CV/CAS. If I were to move to this school, I would take: English A Lit HL, Indonesian A Lit SL, Biology HL, Psychology HL (online course), Math SL, and Theatre SL. I'd love to know what you guys think, and other comments/input are welcome!
  25. Hey all, I'm going to take the DP next year, but I'm still not sure about my subject choices. So far this is what I have, but I've been thinking about changing some subjects. English A Lit HL Indonesian A Lit SL Math SL Biology HL Psychology HL Theatre SL Corporate law is one of my possible university majors, so my counsellor said I should take BM (instead of theatre), but I've heard that it's considered a "soft" subject, is it true and if so would taking Econ be better? I took theatre because I want to take a post-grad in theatre directing, and I genuinely enjoy theatre -- would BM/Econ be better or should I stay with my choice? Also, is psychology a "soft" subject as well? Some people have told me yes but some have said no. My grades have been straight 7s in the MYP (except for math, 5s) so I have no problem regarding grades, it's just about which ones will help and which ones I prefer. Any other issues or comments on my choices will be much appreciated
