    repeating one year

Hello, thanks in advance for your answer. My friend has a very high probability of repeating one year. Under what conditions does a person stay in the second year in ib (11 grade) ? If in the first term (grade 11) the student receives 1,2,2,7,5,6. And in the third term (grade 11 ) he has 7,6,7,3,2,4 + A (TOK) will my friend have repeat a grade ? (Retention one year ) (CAS has done ) My friend is very nervous about this, but I don't know anything about falling conditions in ib. Thank you 😊

    Maths SL Help

I have been struggling with my Maths due to how I was changing schools twice before, in and out of different systems and I really need help with the syllabus now but also some of the basics from before. Does anyone know where perhaps online that I may get free tips or help on my maths?
  4. Hii My IA idea submission is due tomorrow and I have no idea what I really want to do, but came up with the idea of optimization using differential equations. I thought of reducing the surface area of packaging in different shapes like sphere and prisms, and calculate the minimum point (minima) through second order differentiation equation. I am also planning to then apply this to different real life examples like Toblerone triangle prism or something like that. Do you think this is too simple at the level of maths HL because it is just at the level of maths HL in the syllabus? I am ready to discard the idea if the maths involved is too easy for HL. Thanks xx
  5. hi... I took May 2018 exams with 4 HLs( maths, chemistry, physics and EngB) and got a 4,5,6,6 in each subject. I missed Nov 2018 exam so I am thinking of retaking( I mean I must..lol)only maths or both maths and chem in May 2019 I want to change HL maths to SL to get more points. Is it possible to change the level for retake?? Should I retake chem as well? my grades are maths hl 4 phy hl 6 chem hl 5 eng b hl 6 kor a sl 6 b&m sl 6 2 bonus =35 Will there be enough time to do the IAs and exam preparation for both maths and chem? or should I focus on maths?? Thank you!
  6. I don't know if I can do research based on just the mathematical analysis and interpretations of a physics concept for my EE, rather than conducting any sort of experiment or data processing. My teacher says the IB won't expect a theoretical/pure mathematical paper. Is that true?

    EE Math HL

Hey, I don't have a lot of time and I'm desperately searching for my EE topic. I've been thinking about applications of continued fractions or looking for the best way to define pi number by probability. I dunno what to do with the first topic to show my personal engagement and I'm not sure whether the second idea isn't too simple and should be used rather to write an IA. Can you comment on them and/or eventually give some ideas? :/ I feel like committing a suicide but I like this subject... Any tips to survive?

    Mathematics HL Notes-Core by IBling.
  11. Is finding the derivative of trigonometric/circular functions, like the sine and cosine functions, part of the Math SL syllabus? Is this the level of Math SL or is it more advanced? I'm thinking of doing this in my calculations for my IA. Would it work?

    Maths IA photography and maths

Hello I take maths SL and my homework for the winter break was to come up with a topic for the IA. I'm considering f/stops in photography which has something to do with geometric sequences and some mathematical explanation why these stop numbers make sense. It seems good enough, I guess, but my concern is that it's not very authentic. May I have your opinions, please? Hadassah

    Math EE topic help

I have chosen to do my EE on maths. I need some advice on what to do, I have submitted numerous topics for all of them to get rejected. The same reason is given and it is that it is not heavily based in mathematics. If anyone could help tweak one of my topics so it would be perfect as I am struggling quite a bit and I can not get help from my advisor as it is their first year doing this because the advisor I was expecting to get stopped doing EEs. My proposals have been: Geometry behind renaissance architecture, permutation groups and diamond quality, distributions of chance in game show games, statistical analysis of the premier league and use a general rule to predict a champion. If possible I would like to do the group theory one as that has always interested me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Hi all, I made a google classroom that is categorized into 6 modules for covering some interesting questions in IB HL. what I'm trying to do is to give you guys questions for each topic, hopefully every day. And I will always attach video solutions for them. Here is the code for you to join: 5btf45 Here is some nice question you can attempt on trigonometry: Question: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1DpdllFl3wkIDNwVDaUSQokN_FC0pUh5t Solution: https://drive.google.com/open?id=13b3TVJYID4KsdUvJRQRNL6KUOoyNiYNS Hopefully you will get some help by the classroom. Any comment/advice will be much appreciated. Thank you! P.s. please make sure you join with your private gmail account. School domain address won’t let you join. p.p.s. you can share the code with your friends too
  16. SO I have been doing maths SL since the beggining of the year (I'm on grade 11/Year 12). I really want to study Design and Product Design in Uni and was wondering if I need SL for Design/Product Design Courses. The reason I want to drop to Maths Studies is for the simple reason that Art, Design Technology, and Maths SL takes most of the time. This decision is stressing me out as I'm scared Unis would reject my request for my maths studies. I don't think I ever got more than a 4 on maths SL. Any suggestions? My subjects are: Visual Arts (HL) Design technology (HL) Business Management (SL) English B (HL) Spanish Literature A (SL) Maths (SL) Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
  17. Hello everybody, So i did the IB exams may 2017 and I ended up with a final result of 27 points which I am quite pleased with considering how I really struggled throughout the programme and was predicted to fail. However, the only grade I don't like is the grade 2 I got in Maths SL. I really regret taking SL and wish would have taken Studies instead. I am actually going to resit Maths SL and although I have studied, it has been a struggle to do so independently. I am interested in applying for UK unis in 2019 and I have found several unis that accept 27 points. (I want to study architecture). Anyway, my question is, if I don't manage to get a better grade, can they overlook my 2 in Maths? I am thankful for your answers.

    MATHS IA VECTORS (video games)

Hi! So, I have been thinking of possible Maths IA topics for quite a while and have just decided to do it on Vectors (because I'm relatively better at it?). I have heard that quite a few game developers utilise vectors during the game development process, and so it would be in my greatest interest to base my IA on vectors in video games. However, I'm not quite sure on how to go about writing this. I have a basic outline of the structure of my IA (start with 2D then advance to 3D), but I'm starting to worry that it may not be as good as a topic as I hoped it would be. Could someone tell me if this is a feasible topic? What should I do to maybe add more depth to this investigation? Thank you!

MATHS IA HELP - TIDAL WAVES?

I have currently chosen to investigate tidal waves for my maths IA. However, I am unsure as to what other explorations I can do under this. (And whether or not this is too simple...) Is modelling and predicting future tidal waves appropriate? I have secondary sources that'll give me data of tides at different points in times at a beach, so I will be able to graph them. I will also use trig and algebra to find the ideal time to visit the beach with my "ideal" tidal height of 1.5 metres I am uncertain as to what other maths/exploration I can apply to this Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  24. Hey everyone. So next year I’m going into the IB with- English A Literature, Chinese B, Economics, Chemistry, Maths HL and Physics. I really wanted to do Film HL but I thought it’s better to keep my options open and do two sciences instead as I would like to study engineering or medicine in uni. So im just wondering, would doing HL maths, physics and chemistry be way too much? I really love maths and I’m pretty decent at it. I’m also pretty good with managing workloads and im really interested in sciences but I still want to get a good final grade. Or would it be better to swap HL chemistry for HL Economics? Thanksss
  25. Hi, So I'm in 2nd year IB and I planning to apply for the London School of Economics, accounting and finance for 2018 admissions. For accounting and finance, they said on the website they require 38 points, with 6, 6, 6 in HL. I take HL econ, english B and maths, where I am predicted to get 7, 6, 5 respectively. So, because LSE is wanting a 6 in HL maths, and I am only predicted a 5, will I be kicked out immediately? and, if I actually do get a 6 in HL maths in the final exam is the result going to change in the end, like if I make a phone call or something will they consider me on letting me in or not? Thanks!
