  1. Hi everyone, I am currently studying in Year 12 (Grade 11) and I'm wondering when do I apply. I visited many different Canadian unis website but all I can see is dates and deadline. Do I apply during my senior year or after my graduation? Because I see IB general requirement for a score to be eligible to apply, but wouldn't that be finalized after my graduation? Another concern that I have is that if I have to use my predicted score to apply this post-2019, I wouldn't get accepted since I'm going to be honest, my first term score is horrible: Mathematics SL 3, Computer Science HL 4, English A SL 4, Business Management HL 6, French AB 4, Music HL 5, Overall 26. But I believe that I can get my grades up since my first term grades have been a reminder of how much I have to work for IB and my grades have improved after term 2's mock exams. But is it too late now? My desired university is McMaster and some other Ontario unis such as Brock and Guelph. And I want to major in Computer Science. Also, this next question goes to everyone who major or majored in computer science in Canada. I have seen the IB general requirement for McMaster and it includes "Two of Sciences: Biology, Chemistry or Physics". But since I have decided a long time ago that I want to study computer science, I chose CS for group 4(Experimental and sciences). Does this mean I will not be eligible to apply? I am kind of in a dark and don't know how Canadian universities admission works since I would be the first (hopefully) to go study abroad in my gigantic family tree. I'm in a British international school that has quite a low reputation for alumni who went to a decent Canadian university. So literally I have no one to consult. Thank you very much 😊
  2. Okay so I'm in 10th grade going into JR year after this summer and I'm doing the IB obvi these classes are set - HL - PSYC and SL - Mandarin and Lang & Lit Now I'm deciding between where to place math (ive always been good at math getting A's but last year I didn't pay much attention and barely got an A (also my school doesnt have A-'s so i wouldve gotten a B+)) Then after that I have to decide where to place chem and if i should take bio or physics (still in limbo are chem, bio or physics and math ) - HOW hard are these classes I took AP US history and got a 4 (would've gotten a 5 but messed up the formatting on the test leaving me little time to actually finish to best of my ability) so i guess that means i'm good at memorizing ALSO my science teacher said that I would be better suited for SL chem ALSO which math would be best if I also wish to take the AP Calc test and score a 4 or 5
  3. Hi! I'm a pre-ib sophomore and I'm new here. I need to decide my subjects for next year soon, and I want to make sure I choose the best classes for me. My main questions are what I should take for my sixth subject and whether I should take Math HL or Math SL. I plan on taking Bio SL, Spanish B HL, History of the Americas HL, Math SL or HL, English SL or HL, and French ab intio online or something else as a sixth subject. The only sixth subject options at my school I believe are Econ HL and Visual Arts HL. I found pamoja and saw that they have online options for sixth subjects. I love languages and want to study them in college. I am definitely going to take Spanish B HL next year at school, and I have regular French 1 this semester. I thought French ab intio would be a good online option for a sixth subject, but I saw a lot of people saying that they had a lot of problems with that class with pamoja. My dad and sister know quite a bit of French and I have friends who will have French B HL that could help me, but that might not help if I'm stuck with a bad teacher. Would Mandarin ab intio be a better option? Or should I just take art or econ at school? I also need to decide if I should take Math HL or SL. For my other two HL subjects I want to take Spanish and History of the Americas, so for my third I need to choose English or Math unless my sixth subject is HL. I don't really want to study math in college, and I don't really like math. However, I am pretty good at math and I already have taken AP Stats and currently have AP Calc AB. Our Math HL teacher is ok, but if the class would be easier than English HL since I already have had AP math that would be nice. Does anyone know how much the AP classes and IB Math HL overlap? Additionally, I have a lot of extracurricular activities because I dance about 5 days a week (hopefully 6 days next year), and I lead a club and participate in other clubs and volunteering activities. I want to learn, but I also need a lot of sleep; I try to get 8-9 hours on a school night. I don't mind a challenge, but I also don't want to overload myself with unnecessary work. Sorry for my super long post and thanks for any suggestions!

    IB DP Classes!

Hi everyone! So we're choosing our classes for next school year (I'll be a junior, first year in the IB program) and I'm a little uncertain about what I should take. Right now I've got a tentative schedule planned out: IB EnglishIB HistoryIB Physics SLIB SpanishAP BC CalculusIB Theory of KnowledgeIB EconomicsThis feels like a pretty heavy class load, so I'm wondering if anyone can give me advice/info on any of these classes and whether I should drop a class?? Thanks!
  5. Hello IBSurvival.com, I recently just got an account here and wanted to ask my fellow IBs for some help... I was wondering what you do as soon as you get home, I have this constant problem of going on the interwebs everytime I get home and waste time doing that, I just want to get home, eat, and then work. Not eat, watch a vid while eating, then eat/watch all day...help? -Sincerely, xXTargetHDXx Spelled focusing wrong......
  6. Would my schedule be considered an "easy" ib program schedule? Anyone taking/ has taken these classes and want to give me any pointers? Ib math studies Ib History Engineering(not ib) Ib Spanish 4 Ib TOK Ib Sports Ib English (lang)
  7. Does anyone have the schedule for May 2016 examinations? Much appreciated, thanks.
  8. I'm a sophomore and my IB classes are as follows: HL History HL English A HL Biology SL Spanish A (I've been taking Spanish for over 10 years) SL Chemistry Math Studies (I don't plan on doing any math after high school)
  9. Hey all, I'm going to take the DP next year, but I'm still not sure about my subject choices. So far this is what I have, but I've been thinking about changing some subjects. English A Lit HL Indonesian A Lit SL Math SL Biology HL Psychology HL Theatre SL Corporate law is one of my possible university majors, so my counsellor said I should take BM (instead of theatre), but I've heard that it's considered a "soft" subject, is it true and if so would taking Econ be better? I took theatre because I want to take a post-grad in theatre directing, and I genuinely enjoy theatre -- would BM/Econ be better or should I stay with my choice? Also, is psychology a "soft" subject as well? Some people have told me yes but some have said no. My grades have been straight 7s in the MYP (except for math, 5s) so I have no problem regarding grades, it's just about which ones will help and which ones I prefer. Any other issues or comments on my choices will be much appreciated
  10. Hi! I've just got my schedule for this year and I have long days and some early mornings - do you have any tips on how I can keep my energy up after a long day in school (when I will be studying) and how to basically just plan my day after my schedule?? (and how should I find time for CAS?? Should I try to do much on weekends or what?? :/ I'm totally confused, I know! )
  11. Hi! So I'm new here and I'm really not sure this is in the right topic but I'm a raising junior and I'm starting IB in August and I'm still debating on my schedule: HL: Bio Arabic Psychology (or maybe Econ) SL: Chem English Math I'm hoping to do medical when I graduate. I can't decide if I should take psych or Econ cause in our school psych is apparently the hardest ib class you can take from the humanities once. I was also thinking maybe I should take IB Econ and take psych as an AP class so it won't effect me getting my diploma! For everyone who finished IB, was it worth it? Do you feel satisfied that you took it? And how can IB students manage to study for SAT/ACT while doing all that IB work?
  12. Hey Guys, I got a new final schedule and I want to know what you guys think of the overall rigior and what not... Your input will be much appreciated! Year 1: HL Mathematics HL Biology HL chemistry HL english SL Spanish AP Economics AP Physics C (Calculus based physics) Year 2: HL Mathematics HL Biology HL Chemistry HL English SL Spanish SL Economics SL Physics (; Your input will be much appreciated! -Abhishek Sreekanth
  13. Hey Guys, So registration for my classes for junior year has begun and I was wondering what you guys think about this schedule and if you would recommend it. I would also like your opinion on the rigior of the following classes: Junior Year: HL Math 1 HL English 1 HL Biology 1 SL Spanish 1 AP Chemistry AP Economics Senior Year: HL Math 2 HL English 2 HL Biology 2 SL Spanish 2 SL History or SL Comp sci SL Econ (online) AP Physics Thank You, Abhishek Sreekanth
  14. Hi, I'm a 1st year IB student who is taking Economics HL. So this is the second semester, about 3rd quarter, and I'm deciding to change to Psychology HL, just because my Econ teacher is really bad and he often doesn't know what he is doing. I won't care if this subject was not Economics, because other courses don't require so much help from the teachers but I think in Economics teachers are very important.. And if I move to Psych HL, will I be able to catch up if I try hard enough? I heard that Psych is mostly about memorizing terms and applying it with the concepts, and I'm kinda confident with it cuz I'm confident at memorizing things.. Thanks!
  15. I'm preparing to enroll for classes next year, and I've decided to complete the IB Diploma. I know what I want to take, but I'd like a few opinions as to whether or not it's too much. Junior Year: Mathematics SL Biology HL Chemistry HL English HL History of the Americas HL German IV Theory of Knowledge (offered before school) AP Physics B Senior Year: Same, but with IB German V instead of German IV and AP Physics C instead of B I definitely plan on majoring in at least one science in college (would consider double majoring), and I genuinely enjoy all of the subjects listed above. A little background; I'm in top 2% of my class and, despite taking all advanced courses for the first two years of high school, have not been genuinely challenged by any of my classes. I'm definitely willing to put forth the extra effort, but I need to know just how challenging this would be. I would appreciate feedback from anyone with IB experience!
  16. I was wondering if this IB Diploma Schedule would be sufficient. My strengths are definitely English and Social Science, I relatively easily keep an A average in AP European History. IB Math SL IB French SL IB English HL IB Science SL (need help on picking a science class) IB History HL IB Economics HL In addition, I would like to hear about your guys experience with these classes, what information is taught, and how things are graded. Thanks!

    Day in your life?

Since we have such a mixture of countries, cultures and personalities on IB Survival, I was really interested in knowing how your day usually goes! Here's how my day went today (it doesn't have to be right to the minute- I'm just procrastinating here): 7:00- Alarm rings 7:10- Convince myself I have ten more minutes 7:30- Wake up shocked at the time. Ponder about Einstein and Relativity. 7:30 - 8:00 - Get ready for school 8:00- 8:15- Grab an assortment of things lying around my room (socks, headphones, eyeliner) 8:17- Check time on my phone. Mentally curse at myself for taking so long to get ready. 8:17 - 8:30- Pray to every celestial being I know to avoid being late. 8:35- Arrive at school just as National Anthem is going on (They play the National Anthem every morning in the assembly). Try to concoct a plan to slip by unnoticed as I stand in silence. 8:40 - Try to slip past the teachers who are noting down late-comers. My efforts are in vain as they sense a disturbance in the Force, and immediately notice me. Since this the first time I'm late this month, so they let me go with a warning. 8:45 - Reach classroom. Hang out with friends. 8:50 - Go to my first class of the day- Chemistry. Brain shuts down and refuses to learn chemistry so early on a Friday morning. 8:50 - 9:30 - Survive first class, and manage to successfully revise Energetics. 9. 35- 10:10- Business and Management. Sit through a 40 minute painstakingly slow lecture about Mediums of Communication. 10:10- 10:50- Chem IAs. It's just processing the data which I did beforehand, so all I need to do is copy it from the notebook onto Word. Piece of cake. 10:50- FIRST BREAK! Munch on grapes as friends share new-found songs. Listen to Bastille. Feel 30% better about the day so far. 11- Unpleasantly surprised by Math teacher who says it is now time for math. Tell him it is actually our Chem IA session. IB coordinator is called to sort out mess. Apparently, it is now Math. 11:05- 12:20: Double lecture of Math. By the mercy of God, we are starting a new chapter- Transformations of Graphs. Understand everything and cheer internally. 12:20 -12:50: IA session. Teacher nowhere to be seen. As I'm done with the work, I 9gag without feeling too guilty. 12.50- 1.20: LUNCH. Start working on French, as I simultaneously eat. Another friend starts designing our official IB CAS logo, and asks for feedback. Work on improving logo. It's finally finalized. Stare at prettiness. 1:20 - 2:30 - Urgent teacher meeting. Biology and English are now free lectures. Happy that I'm done and up to date with Bio notes. Ignore big scary HL analysis for English. 2:30- 3:30- Business and Management teacher turns up. Prepare self for a horribly boring lecture, but instead find myself in an extremely engaging and interesting lecture on Advertising. 3:30- School ends. Weekend plans (non-existent) crushed with the reminder that we have a full day of school tomorrow. Miserably ponder about all the exciting things I done (get a tattoo. skydive. SLEEP) 3:45 - On the way home. 4- Reach home. 4:15- Eat. Allow myself to watch one episode of Supernatural. 5:15- I'll totally start my homework after one more episode. I swear. 6- Start on homework. 7- Finish with 10 French exercises. Find myself worthy of a break 7: 15- Suddenly come up with idea for new post as I'm browsing IB Survival. 7:49- Finally end post as I come to realize that they're is a slight chance that this post will go ignored. Great.
  19. Hey guys, I've just started my first year of the DP, and I'm loving it! I'm just having a few problems picking HLs and SLs for next year. I'd really love to go into anthropology or sociology, something to do with humanities. So far, I've chosen my HLs- French, History, and Language A1 (required by my school:P). I'm also currently doing Environmental Science SL, which will take care of my group 4 requirement at the end of this year. Now- here's the problem. My parents want me to do Biology SL next year, but I'd love to do music SLG. I've never been able to play in my school's jazz band because of scheduling conflicts, and I'd love to take it easy next year without a science. Biology really has no use in the humanities, and as I freshman I took my school's honors bio course anyway. So if I got my way, my HLs and SLs would look something like this- French HL History HL Language A1 HL Environmental Science SL Math Studies (SL) Music SLG What do you think? Bio SL or Music SLG. As you can probably tell from my list of SLs and HLs, I'm really not a math/science-y type of person...
  20. hl english hl chinese b hl art hl history sl math sl bio or hl english hl art hl physics hl history sl chinese a math sl regular bio (we have to take a form of bio and history at my school, and we don't have sl physics. also, I would take sl chinese a in the first schedule but that's 7 ib courses.) 1) should I just not take art? I'm interested in photography and stop motion projects but I'm not an incredibly artistic person overall. 2) should I take hl bio instead of physics in the second schedule? thank you!
