  1. Hi everyone! I have been focusing a lot on my CAS experiences to try to get them out of the way from the second year apart for two/three that I normally do. I have done tons of creativity, service and activity. According to Mange Bac, I have 100% of my CAS done and I have not uploaded some of my reflections on the site yet. The experiences I plan to keep are only Service and Activity, there would be no creativity. I did a service trip with my school and there we did so much stuff about creativity I think it would be more than enough. So I was wondering if I had to keep doing creativity until the second year, or if I can do only Activity and Service as my CAS for the rest of my second year? Thank you!
  2. I was hoping to start a blog in order to add up to my creativity section of CAS but I'm not sure if I can do it since it will not have any supervisor. Can I make my CAS coordinator sign it or do i even need a supervisor for such CAS? Thanks for the help!
  3. My school's CAS coordinator met with all the juniors after school this past week. He said that if we were doing a CAS activity outside of school, we had to get a letterhead paper from the activity's supervisor (Ex: doing Creativity hours by going to a piano lesson where I am being supervised by my piano teacher) describing what you did. He never specified that you needed a reflection for it. However, I've heard that you have to do a reflection on the activity, get it signed by your advisor, and you're all set. This has left me really confused. If anyone knows what to do, please tell me!
  4. Hi I was planning to do a runathon myself where I ask people to give me money for each lap/km that I do. I am not very good at running so the planning part is where I improve my own running skills. The fund gathered will then be gathered to a charity that I haven't decided upon yet. There is also an app that I've found online which makes them donate money to a charity of my choice for the distance that I've ran. I want to ask if this sounds like an acceptable CAS project, if not how can I make it one or what are some other suggestions.
  5. Hello! This is my first post on the forum. Basically, my friend and I organized a TEDx Conference at our school, and spent roughly 3 months organizing it, from getting speakers, setting stages and getting materials. Anyways, when we went to our CAS Supervisor he only gave us 18 hours for the event - 8 Creativity and 10 Service - for the event, saying that we made the posters and promotional material in about 2 days so 8 hours of creativity for that, and we spent about 10 hours of running around, 8 on the event day, and 2 before that so 10 hours of activity total and 0 service hours. Is he correct? It was 3 months of organization! and doesnt the CAS Guide count advocacy as service? Our Event raised some awareness regarding disabilities and sexism. Anyways, let me know if you guys think theres room to argue regarding organisation, like phone call time spent, discussion time, things like that.
  6. Hey everyone! My friends and I wanted to create a magazine sort of thing which has advice on how to survive the IB for the pre-IB students at our school and anyone who is starting the DP programme. We were wondering if that idea could count for CAS, specifically creativity. It will involve designing the actual magazine as well as writing the posts. Would that be approved by IB for creativity hours?

  8. Hi guys! I am struggling with coming up with more ideas for service. I am currently volunteering at a cat shelter and I am going to volunteer at a home for old people. If you have any ideas or something that you did for service please post them, it would be really helpful.
  9. I was wondering apart from school activities how did/do you complete CAS service hours since it's kinda difficult to find good community service areas in India? Or at least in Mumbai. There's no soup kitchen that I know of nor can we help out at some local library so... Any ideas?

    CAS REQUIREMENTS?

So school's starting real soon and I have no idea how the CAS thing works. How many hours / activities do I have to complete throughout the 2 years? If I start a CAS Project, does it count towards CAS hours?

  14. Hey, I am in the summer between grade 11 and 12, and for my service during the summer, I wanted to go work for a few hours per week at an orphanage. I will probably be helping out with the kids and entertain them and stuff. Will this be considered as Service? And whose Email-Id should I put as supervisor on managebac?
  15. Hey everyone! I'm putting together a zine about how to survive the first year of IB, and I want to include some stories of great CAS projects to get people inspired! Did anybody do anything cool for CAS? I would love to hear what you got up to!
  16. The new CAS requires more documentation and provides more specific examples of applicable activities and projects.

  18. So me and my friend are looking for CAS activities to do together. Personally, I think I'm doing fine on CAS hours given that I'm around 90ish hours in at the end of my first semester in the DP. (I know that CAS is no longer recorded in hours, but it's a nice way of measuring how my progress is.) -- So currently, my activities are: Creativity: - Learning how to play the Piano - Computer Club Activity: - Waterpolo - Swim-training (both recorded under one activity) Service: - Teaching Dutch to small Dutch children - In-school clothes recycling - Assisting in organisation of swimming tournaments for charity and my friend's activities are: Creativity: - Diversity Club Activity: - Kickboxing Service: - Salvation Army (charity kinda thing) -- I currently have no CAS projects but I do have one planned for in the future. So if you have any CAS project suggestions, that'd be very appreciated! In case you need it: We live in Singapore and we'd prefer activities in Singapore.
  19. Hey guys! So the idea I had for my CAS project was to create a website that would help new IB students with their transition into the program by offering tips, study techniques and other helpful bits of information. I thought it would be really nice to get IB students from around the world involved to see how people from different countries are approaching the program study and extra curricular wise. If you are interested please PM me and I'll add you to a Google doc I made so we can all exchange ideas xx
  20. Hello everyone! Being an ex-IB student, I am aware of how grueling the course can be, especially when it gets to that stage of the course when one must decide their university majors, and in essence, their careers. My friend and I found that this decision was a very big step at such an early age, not only due to the course pressures we face but also because of how unfamiliar we are with how the 'real world' functions, alongside fears of choosing a course that turns out unfavorable. For this reason, we came up with the concept of having a website that allows high school students to get in touch with volunteering professionals in their fields of interest, prior to joining university. This allows students to become aware of what their potential job may look like and to make a more informed decision about their degree choices. However, before delivering this idea to the public, we wanted to gauge the students' interest in such a service and hence have come up with a quick survey that will help us do so. The survey link is: http://goo.gl/forms/SupyqdHTRH I would request you spare a few moments of your time to fill up the survey and assist us in our endeavor. If you have any questions, please leave them down below as comments and I will be happy to answer them.
  21. Hello I am recently started helping out at a local lawyer firm, because i am in desperate need of service hours. As you are all aware if we do not complete CAS hours, we will be denied from our IB diploma! So, I am helping them do things like: Typing up documentsSome simple translationSorting documents out (adding them to a list on a Word document, checking all listed documents are in the correct box etc.)Helping make folders which are needed for cases (eg all documents for a case will be put in a folder)Tearing documents, for recyclingPlease be mindful that I am in no way getting paid for these activities. I have been doing this for 3 hours a week, about 4 weeks now. Do you guys believe this is good for "service" hours? Please reply soon so I can decide whether or not to continue this activity. It really "chunks" out my study time, you know? Peace fofo.
  22. Heeeyyy So, I went to the mall and volunteered to collect money for a charity for one hour. This is one of my first service hours (I've already way exceeded the action and creativity hours so lol, need my service!!!) but I have no idea how to write a service reflection on something like this, as literally all I did was stood and smiled at people, then thanked them when they gave me money... What do I need to cover in a service reflection? What should I talk about/focus on? Thanks!!!
  23. Hi! My friend and I are starting a newspaper focused on Foreign Affairs and are looking for good writers. It definitely counts for CAS (creativity and service) and doesn't require too much work! Email me if you're interested; we are looking for good writers with an interest in politics, foreign affairs, government or anything of the sort! [email protected] www.youngdiplomacy.com
  24. So for creativity, could i put marching band practices and competition? Also, practicing the piano, since i play the piano and also put down piano recitals? Action... I'm doing tennis practice and tennis matches at my high school. Service. I'm doing National Honor Society and this other club.
  25. Hi. I was wondering if it as strict requirement to do 50 hours of every CAS component. I live in a small city and there aren't many sport classes offered. I'm worried that I won't be able to fulfill the requirement of doing 50 hours of Action and I will miss the deadline set by my school (April 2015) for CAS reflections. However, I have joined two foundations so I will probably have much more than 50 hours of Service by April 2015. So will I fail CAS if I have for example only 30 hours of Action but, say, 70 hours of Service (it gives altogether 100)? Or maybe it isn't that important? Maybe it depends solely on school's policy? I guess I will somehow manage to do these 50 hours but I would rather be sure if there is a reason to worry. Thanks in advance.
