    Extended Essay

Want to share the title of your extended essay? Or perhaps need help choosing one? This is the place. Psychology - The Psychology of Road Rage: A discussion of psychological explanations of road rage and policy implications.
  2. The EE question I came up with was "To what extent is the market for airplane travel from Lisbon to Porto a contestable market?". Contestable markets is an economic theory invented in the early 1980s, that differs from the classical ones, and suggests that an oligopolistic or monopolistic market will provide at the productively efficient price, not the maximising MC = MR, because of the constant threat of new entrants taking way their market share. Airlines generally are an example, but it depends on the barriers to entry. This topic seems very interesting, and I have a lot of sources, but "Contestable markets" is not a topic in IB economics. Is it still ok to do this topic then? It's weird because my teacher said I can't, but I've found extended essay reports that have research questions that go outside the syllabus, including some about contestable markets. Can anyone tell me what the IB EE policy for this is? Thanks in advance Btw this is a repost
  3. hey guys! I am new here. I am starting writing my extended essay in English B but I am so confused. I want to write about Disney movies. I think of portraying the way how women stereotypes have been broken from "Cinderella" and "Snow White and seven dwarfs" to "Frozen" and "Brave". Do you think this is a good enough topic? any suggestions or advice?
  4. Hey, My topic for my Chemistry SL IA is the quantitative analysis of vitamin c in raw tomatoes compared to cooked tomatoes. I thought about making 5 repetitions because of the certainty. I will get 5 results overall. Is that enough? Or do I need more repetitions? Is this topic even useful? If not, what do you request? I'm open for ideas! PS: I have no time left, deadline by tomorrow. Thank you

    TOK Topic

Hi. I'm still struggling to find a decent topic for my TOK presentation. So far, I'm thinking about using this one: To what extent does religion affect our lives? Is this a good question to use? I'm not sure if it touches upon the WOKs AOKs. Thank you

    EE Math HL

Hey, I don't have a lot of time and I'm desperately searching for my EE topic. I've been thinking about applications of continued fractions or looking for the best way to define pi number by probability. I dunno what to do with the first topic to show my personal engagement and I'm not sure whether the second idea isn't too simple and should be used rather to write an IA. Can you comment on them and/or eventually give some ideas? :/ I feel like committing a suicide but I like this subject... Any tips to survive?

  9. Hi guys, my EE sort of 'proposal' due date where we seriously consult to the EE supervisors and all that are next week's Wednesday, and honestly I'm still so so confused and I need help or just some suggestions or anything, please. Here are the subjects I am taking: Economics HL, Mathematics HL, Physics HL, Chemistry SL, English A SL, MandarinAB. So, since the start, I've always intended on taking Economics EE because from all my other subjects, it seemed impossible for me. (I've been getting rock bottom scores for Math and the school have no more supervisors for Physics). So, I've been researching a lot for like a few months now, but until now I've got nothing. Initially, I wanted to do about impact of K-Pop in Korea's economy, which would certainly interest me, but the Econs EE supervisor said to do something related to your country, and I'm an Indonesian. I've also searched about topics like tourism, transport, food, etc, but it's really hard for me to relate it to the economics concept especially when it's like about a particular brand like for example McD, etc. And lots of people say that it's leaning more towards Business, and I don't take Business. My economics EE supervisor has been chasing me and all that about topics topics and topics for Econs since he knows that I want to take it, but yesterday he talked to me and said that it's really important for everyone to do an EE on a topic that will surely interest us and something that you are passionate about. He kept on also encouraging the whole class to take a Language EE, like Indonesian B and the subject allows you to talk about a wide range of things like analysing songs, brochures, ads and all that, etc. So, I was quite persuaded by that and I really want to do on something about K-Pop. So, I noticed I could write about K-Pop on these language EEs, but the problem is I don't take Indonesian B and I don't take English A HL (I take A SL), so it would surely be a challenge for me. Even though Indonesian is my first language, I don't know if I could write well, but I really feel like I wanna do this you know, or maybe do English A EE. Another problem is, I don't know how I could relate the topic of K-Pop to these language EEs, can anyone maybe share me your thoughts on my issue please? I really need help. Thank you!!...

    EE HELP

Hello, I'm half way through my first year in the DP and I'm still struggling to find an interesting topic for EE on English. I wanted to take a look at The Great Gatsby, The Yellow Wallpaper or The Lord of the Flies but my sister recommended me not to do so because these texts are studied throughout the years of IB and the markers would expect an exceptional outcome towards the essay; essentially making it a little difficult for me to ace. I'm currently reading about Burmese Days by George Orwell, it talks a lot about gender, race, culture, imperialism and etc. but I'm not too sure if I'll be sticking to this one. My only option now is to take a look at other novels that perhaps incorporate politics or feminism (I feel like they'll be easier to deal with???). So, I was hoping if you guys could give me some advice on the EE and some novels I could take a look at

    Maths SL IA Matrix Algebra

Hi, I came up with a topic “What type of function will produce the most accurate model of population growth in country X?” I made scatter plot using data about country’s population in given year. Now I want to use quadratic function to see how would it fit as a model and I’m wondering whether there is other way to find (a, b, c, and d for the equation y = ax3 + bx2 + cx + d) than applying matrix algebra (X = A-1 B) since matrix algebra is not a part of SL curriculum and I’m worried that using it may lower my mark.

    Geography IA topic choice HELP!

Hi, I'll have to decide on our ia topics by tomorrow! I came up with 2 potential ia topics but can't decide which one to do: Does my city fit the multi-nuclei model? What factors affect the sphere of influence of the local supermarket/store? With the 1st one I'll need to find certain features in the, say 5-6, potential commercial centers in my city, and use the definitions to prove that they are indeed CBDs, and then piece them together. There're a few classmates with similar topics and we're supposed to go in groups, but still it might be pretty tough fieldwork? With the latter I'll first measure the sphere of influence, and then come up with affecting factors, like the types of goods they sell. Problem is, the effect of sth on sth is usually pretty relative, means there has to be a range of variables? Like I need to go from the grocery to the supermarket and to a department store? That would be too much for 2500 words. Has anyone done similar topics before? Any tips on that? Which one should I do??? Thanks a lot.

    History EE: Cambodian Genocide

Hi everyone, I'm in my first year of the IB and so I am just getting started on my extended essay in history and have decided on the topic of the Cambodian Genocide under Pol Pot. However, I'm not sure what to have as my research question or whether the ideas that I do have are too broad for it, I would like to focus on the year zero policy and what actually happened but I don't want the essay to end up being very narrative as I know that's not what the IB seems to be looking for. I've made a list of some ideas for titles below and any input on which to choose or further suggestions for research questions would be greatly appreciated: 1) What was the year zero policy and how did it affect Cambodia? 2) To what extent was the year zero policy the key reason for the Cambodian Genocide? (any help on other key reasons would be greatly appreciated for this one) 3) How did the political theory of 'Year Zero' wipe out 25% of the Cambodian population when implemented? Thank you so much for any help provided in advance!

    EE research question

Hey! Sooo... I'm about to begin writing my extended essay, and though I've got some ideas I liked to write about, I'm somewhat stuck with the research question. Could someone help me design (or give ideas) for a research question to begin writing about?? Or maybe tell me some tips if you're writing / wrote on these subjects?? I'm trying to decide myself between writing about the Naval Technologies implemented during the XVIIth century because of the Pirates (defense mechanisms, bigger, fatter ships, etc.) or Spanish Linguistics, maybe jewish influence on the language. Thanks!! I'll appreciate all your help 😅 Lukas
  15. Hi, I'm in my first year of IB and I am starting to research potential topics for my chemistry extended essay. Because I want my extended essay to include one of my passions, I decided to write it about something related to medicine, pharmacy or even climate change. So far, all my ideas have been rejected by the supervisor due to them being inappropriate or too difficult. But I think I finally came up with something usable, I still need to work narrowing it down but do you think to research about the effectiveness of expired meds such as Ibuprofen or aspirin and relating it to the maybe useless expiration date of some meds? (they are only there because of law). Do you think it will be enough for a chemistry extended essay? Thanks in advance
  16. So, my class was told that our EE's are due next year in May and our first draft is due in a few weeks. I heard History is a great subject to look into for the EE but our teacher advised us not to focus on it since our class doesn't take that subject anymore ( ☹️ ). Anyway, I plan on finishing my TOK, CAS and EE before the year so I can focus on my studies next year. Unfortunately, I still haven't come up with a satisfactory topic yet for EE. I thought of doing it on the Western influence on Japanese art but I doubt I'd find any articles or information that could potentially build a 4,000 word essay. So I was hoping if anyone could please give me some interesting topics for EE I could perhaps look into, preferably English or History (my supervisor is a major in both these subjects, so it won't matter). Please help me, I'm actually really stressed out and worried about this.
  17. Hi there! So we are currently on the stage of finalising what topic we want to do for our EE and I am doing mine in History, but am having some trouble choosing which one to do. I really want to get an A or B on the extended essay, so need a topic that sounds like it has a lot of good material in order for me to get a high grade So the topic I am currently interested in are: - How the African National Congress with Nelson Mandela was influenced by the Indian independence movement with Mahatma Gandhi and why peaceful protests worked in India, but not in Africa (this could possibly also explore ideas of terrorists vs freedom fighters? I'm not sure) - Princess Sophia's (From India) impact and influence on the suffragettes' movement in England - An exploration of Britain's rule on India and what kind of negative impacts that had (Maybe also explore the idea of whether or not Britain should pay reparations to India --> this idea came from the novel 'inglorious empires' by Shashi Tharoor) Any help is appreciated!! Thanks :))
  18. Hi, My fieldwork report (IA) is due to be finished till the end of summer tbh my class has done a fieldwork investigation already in an urban park area in a bigger city, but the whole data collection was messed up and now i'm thinking about doing a research on my own :( I live in Hungary and the only place where they grow rice is around the little town where i happen to live...they have bio rice, wild rice and all kinds of stuff, anyways It sort of a HUGE deal, the paddy fields take up an area of 1000 ha land, they water it from a special canal and supposedly it satisfies 30% of the European wild rice market demands... I've been thinking about doing an IA related to this, but i'm not sure which topic would be optimal for this and what things could i really measure... Maybe it could be about something related to soil degradation or impact on the local environment in general, and the question could be like "How has agricultural activity at Location Y affected X?", but i can't really examine the impact over time...so I don't know :/ Any idea/suggestion/tip is deeply appreciated and desperately needed :3

    Math IA Topic

So I am entering my second year as a DP student which is both exciting and unnerving due to the shear amount of work there is to do. That being said my math teacher over the summer wanted us to finalize our math IA topics. I have narrowed it down to two potential topics which are the geometry of ice hockey or how does listening to music affect ones ability to solve math equations. Thanks so much, Maddy
  20. I wanted to ask whether this topic would be suitable for an extended essay in chemistry. It involves comparing the effectiveness of different (or components in them) of physical and chemical sunscreens. In order to do so, I can either find out the effect they have on the voltage output of a DSSC, or I was thinking of using spectrophotometry. So is this idea okay? The topic is finalized, but just finding the exact research question/aim was difficult. Any help is appreciated as my supervisor doesn't reply to emails and we currently have holidays for a few weeks.

    EE English B

Hi guys! I’m choosing the topic of my English B EE topic. Most of the topics I’ve seen in the internet are related to the books but I was wondering if I could do it on more “social” topic like for example how does the development of the internet affects sth?

    English EE on Percy Jackson

Hi. I've decided to do my EE in English, focusing on Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. I'm not getting any good advice from my supervisor, and the internet isn't really helping me. I've gone through a lot of book changes prior to this, more specifically dystopian and feminist books. However, I've read that these are really overused topics, so I wanted to try to think out of the box. I decided to choose Percy Jackson because I think that there is a lot of content I can analyze for my 4,000 words. It's okay to choose a relatively 'easy' book for EE, right? Right now, I need help on choosing a topic and formulating a good research question. Honestly, I'm stuck at choosing which topic I should focus on. I'm scared if the topics I have in mind will be good enough for an EE. I would really appreciate feedback on the topics, and the research questions that come along with them. Here's what I have so far. 1. The Portrayal of Greek Mythology in Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief How does Riordan portray classic characters from ancient Greek mythology in Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief? : Classic vs revised character traits of the Greek gods How does Riordan associate ancient Greek mythology with modern literature in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief?: Plots of the original Greek myths affected by modern technology, environment, characteristics of the Greek gods, etc. 2. Family Roles in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief How does Riordan portray family roles in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief?: Nature of family, duties and responsibilities of a parent and a child; how gods neglect their roles as parents, and how their demigod children are expected to do more 3. Coming of Age in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief How does Riordan portray the coming of age in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief?: How internal conflicts faced by the character is portrayed in the form of monsters and evil villains 4. The Hero Concept in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief How does Riordan define the meaning of a hero in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief?: Characteristics of a hero; analysing different characters and how they are considered heroes
  23. Hi, I am in dire need of help with selecting my math ee topic. I currently have in mind brachistochrone curves, but I can't think of a suitable RQ.

    BIO HL IA TOPIC

Hello guys, I need an interesting bio hl topic for my IA. I was thinking about something connected with allelopathy, for example, planting mint and cucumber near each other and measuring how the cucumber is affected, maybe adding different temperatures so it wouldn't seem so easy? or something with essential oils and how they affect the growth of different plants but I don't really know which I could choose. What do you guys think?
  25. Hey! Does someone have any notes on the history books IB called "Authoritarian States" and "Cold War" Thank you
