  1. My school offers 3 different Language B subjects: Indonesian Acquisition, Chinese Acquisition, and French ab Initio. Out of these 3 languages, I am only fluent in Indonesian since it's my native language, however, due to this, there's some policy restricting me from choosing it, leaving me with Chinese Acq & French ab Initio. With no prior knowledge at all regarding these two languages, I decided to choose French since it's in an Initio. With that in mind, will French ab Initio be difficult and is it a time consuming subject when it comes to revisions?
  2. What is the difference between a fully authorized IB programme and a school that is an IB Candidate? Does it make an impact on whether or not I get my diploma or the education in general?
  3. Hi! I'm starting the IB this August and I am wondering what is is like. Is it true that you won't really have a social life? I'm also doing sports 4 times a week and I'm wondering whether I can still keep that up, or if I have to drop it. Also, I was wondering what CAS is and how you would go about and complete it. I'm completely new to all of this and I know practically nothing. I'm taking these subjects: English Lang Lit HL Chemistry HL Film HL Psych SL Chinese B SL Maths SL If anyone has any experience in those subjects please let me know what they are like! Thank you so much in advance.

    IB DP Classes!

Hi everyone! So we're choosing our classes for next school year (I'll be a junior, first year in the IB program) and I'm a little uncertain about what I should take. Right now I've got a tentative schedule planned out: IB EnglishIB HistoryIB Physics SLIB SpanishAP BC CalculusIB Theory of KnowledgeIB EconomicsThis feels like a pretty heavy class load, so I'm wondering if anyone can give me advice/info on any of these classes and whether I should drop a class?? Thanks!
  5. So next year I will be going into grade 9 and I will be starting pre-IB right now I have to decide whether to do extended french or not. Taking extended french would mean I would have to take french class, geography in french, and theology in french ( It is a catholic school). Then in grade 10 I would also have to do history in french. I'm a decent french student but I'm afraid extended french paired with pre-IB would be difficult to manage. I tend to procrastinate... a lot.The way the extended french program works is that I will do all my extended french courses in the first 2 years of high school then do all the IB courses in the last 2 years. So I wouldn't have any extended french in grades 11 and 12. Would I be able to manage extended french with pre-IB? Has anyone experienced something similar to this? Any help would be great because I need to make a decision soon.
  6. Hi everyone, I have quite a few things to discuss in this topic so please please please read the whole thing and help me out! Thank you! So here's a little background on me: I gave my IGCSEs this May and have switched to the IB for the Diploma Program. My subjects were: Math, Bengali, English, Economics, Accounting, Commerce, Physics and Further Pure Math. I got 5A*s and 3As (most notably a 98/100 in pure math). So overall I did quite well. My IB subjects are: Math, Econ and Physics at HL and English Lang. and Lit., Spanish ab initio and Chemistry at SL. It's been so far, so good. My question is that since I have an O' Level background, how well do I fare when doing the IB? Math HL is not that hard for me because I had pure math; and I love Econ and am naturally quite good at it (same goes for Physics). So with my O' Level prep, would these HLs not be too much for me to handle in the long run? I would love to think so. My second dilemma is considering taking a fourth HL. Either English or Chemistry. I want to go for a business or science (engineering) career path. For the latter, Chemistry HL would help me out quite a bit at university, so should I take that over English if at all? Also, would universities appreciate the fact that I took 4 HLs and (hopefully) did well in them? Lastly, I need to explain why I'm pushing myself. I'm a Bangladeshi citizen who wants to go to America or the UK for university. Because of my citizenship, admission into universities there makes it much harder for me. So what would be a good IB score for getting into a Top 40 (or maybe even ivy league) college? Thank you guys in advance! =D
  7. I`m about to finish obligatory 10 yrs of school, and considering either studying abroad for my IB diploma or staying in my country (the school here isn`t as good as private international ones abroad). The subjects I`ll take are: 1.English 2.Spanish or Arabic/Mandarin/Other Asian languages Ab inito - (depending on which school I go to, and what they offer, I prefer the latter) 3.Business Management/Psychology - (Again, depending on which school, I prefer business) 4.Biology 5. Math 6. Some art thingy, or choose something else from the other groups, if the school offers that option. I do well at school now, and I don`t really work hard to achieve such a high score. I have a 5.4 score (Norwegian "GPA", Subjects are scored from 1-6, highest possible "GPA" is 6) The average score is something like 3.5-4ish, 4.5-5 is a great score, lower than 3 is terrible. But I think the reason my score is so high is because the (public) school I go to is so un-rigorous, and most of my peers are retards... haha, so I don`t think my high score neccesarily means I will survive (and certainly not thrive) in the IB program. So my questions are: (You don`t need to answer them all of course) -Is the IB program harder at different schools, and/or countries? (Since I am considering taking the IB diploma abroad, and it would suck to move all the way to another country just to get a lower score than I would at home) I have heard from a friend who lived in Thailand (now in uni) and took the IB program at a private international school that one of his "loser"/low-achieving friend in Pre-IB moved to Australia/US (I believe) for the IB program and graduated at the top of his class. I know it sounds stereotypical, there might be some truth to it, I guess? -I`ve heard that the IB program isn`t neccesarily hard, but has a really heavy workload, is this true? - We can measure this by how frequently do you have tests, and how many pages of information is the curriculum in each test? At my school we go through a chapter of about 30-40 pages of information - (with a big font size, equivalent to about 15 IB-textbook pages, I`ve seen some IB textbooks, they look terrifyingly big) - in 5-6 weeks (2-3 hours a week per class) and have a test after every chapter. I personally think it is ridiciolous how slowly we go through the curriculum. -I`ve read so many different answers to this question, but I`ll ask again; how many hours a day do you spend on homework, and are you assigned homework to the same day as you have a test? Please don`t answer it depends, like everyone else. How many hours do YOU spend a day? And how many hours a day do you think I would need to spend to get a 38+ score? Do you generally get homework-free weekends, as long as you do your work when it is assigned, and not wait to do an essay the sunday before it is due? -If I chose French ab inito, compared to for example Arabic or Mandarin ab inito (the latter ones obviously harder languages to learn, because of different script, and many other reasons) would I learn less Arabic/Mandarin than I would French, I think that would make sense at least? -I want to become an engineer, do I need to choose Physics as an IB subject to get admitted into a university engineering program? -Do you write short stories and such in English, or do you just analyse literature? Thank you so much if you took your time to answer some/all of these questions!!
  8. Hello, I will be starting IB next week and was wondering how people manage to do IB and have a job.. I would be working a 6 hour shift per week, usually on the saturday. I was wondering if any of you know from experience if it's possible to combine a job like mine with the IB. I want to get good grades but I also know I cannot stop working -- I need the money for college.
