  1. my HOTA IA is due next Thursday and. I'm. Struggling. I wanted to do something in regards to the cherokee nation because my great grandmother was a cherokee indian. I came up with the question: "To what extent did the trail of tears affect the women of the cherokee indians" but my teacher told me it was too broad and to focus in on one of the tribes instead. so I came up with the question: "To what extent did the Trail of Tears affect the passing down of traditions in the wolf clan of the cherokee indians?" She said it was alright, but I'm struggling to find information on it and I really don't know what to do. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice that they could give me? It would be greatly appreciated.

    What if I'm failing badly?

I am currently in my first semester of grade 11's and am getting 3's rather than straight 7's in all my subjects. Is it alright if I'm failing most of my subjects for my first semester? I have taken the subjects HL Maths, HL Physics, HL Comp Sci, SL Bus & Man, SL Eng Lang Lit, and SL Spanish B. Will I ever improve or am I also going to fail my IB exams in May of 2020?
  3. "To what extent was the cold war responsible for the separation between North Korea and South Korea?" is this too broad? please someone help how i should phrase my research question. I really do have interest and a lot of knowledge in this area (the Korean War) & (The Cold War)
  4. Hey, I'm from Kazakhstan and currently in the 11th grade (first DP year) and I started to worry about getting in university just at the beginning of this academic year. I'm interested particularly in Japanese and Korean universities because of the culture of this nations, but.. last year I had GPA ~3.2 and generally can not boast of really high academic achievements. I picked Math, Comp. Science HL and Physics SL and aiming to be a programmer (maybe in software development). Also, I want to know what are the chances of getting full scholarships in both countries. I have spent enough time on the internet but it doesn't really give me the understanding what my chances are and what results I have to reach (e. g. ib grades) to be accepted on universities on the terms of full scholarships. I'm very frightened, but I want to start going forward to my goal as soon as I know: What are my chances to enter universities in East Asia as an international/IB student (particularly in Japan and Korea)? Can I count on the aid provided by universities and government? What challenges and difficulties can I face?

    advice needed :)

Hi, I am an 8th grader and I have been planning to go into the IB program once I am a junior. At the high school I am going to go, you are required to be in the Pre-IB/ Scholars program to register into the actual IBDP. A lot of my friends have told me not to and that I will have no social life if I do this. However, I knew someone who did the IBDP while playing basketball and working. I would like to know if it is really as burdening as people make it sound. (I know it is different for everyone depending on personal choices) I would also like to know what subjects would be best for me to take. These are the classes I would like to take: - English SL - Math HL - Spanish SL - Biology HL - Chemistry HL - History HL +TOK However my school only offers some of these subjects in HL/SL. If I talk to a coordinator, is it possible to change this? English is only offered in HL, Chemistry is only offered in SL, and History is only offered in HL. I would really like to pursue biomedical engineering in college. Would this be the best subjects for me? Thank you so much in advance for any answers and advice. Sorry it’s a lot to read!
  6. I'm currently deciding on my course options for IB, and I really want to take math studies. Math has always been my weak point - I pretty much have perfect grades in everything else. I took IGCSE extended math this year (I didn't take core because I did NOT want a C as my highest grade) and I've found it pretty challenging. I'm really interested in the humanities, and for like half my life, I've known that I want to be a psychologist / neuropsychologist. I know I need stats for that, and looking at the math studies curriculum, it's pretty stats intensive (more so, even, than math SL). Would american universities care whether I took math studies? If it helps, I'm interested in schools like Pamona / Pitzer / Bowdoin I'm also considering relatively easy courses in general, but that's because I'm genuinely interested in everything I'd be taking. My courses would be: Geography HL Psychology HL English A lit HL French B SL Math studies / Math SL (ew) Biology SL Would taking math studies hurt me?
  7. I'm doing my 11th grade right now and I've changed syllabus from a national syllabus to the IB. I'm clueless about the expectations, nature of IB and almost everything regarding it. My current school that I've moved into, by itself is new and not very experienced, hence lack in providing the students with clear guidance. The performance of the previous 3 batches was not satisfactory as well. The students in the school are not very willing to provide me with apt guidance as they are very busy themselves. I understand that it is a lot to ask for but I'd be very, very, VERY grateful if someone who's well informed about the IBDP could guide me about it A-Z. I've always been a well-scoring student but ever since I started the IBDP, I've not been performing well at the least and this is taking a MAJOR toll on my self-confidence. DESPERATELY IN NEED OF HELP! Anyone willing to guide me in detail can also contact me via email: [email protected] Thanks in advance.
  8. So my TOK teacher informed us that we're not permitted to submit the TOK presentation in a form of a video, only a PowerPoint presentation is accepted by the IB. I was a bit conflicted by this new information so I asked the librarian and he said that we're allowed, as long as we present ourselves throughout the video occasionally. And then for a confirmation, I inquired the IB Coordinator and she said we're not allowed to use a video as our final presentation. So should I follow what my IB Coordinator said or should I just do what's easier for me and make a video?
  9. Hi I have to do a supervised writing on women at point zero by Nawal El Saadawi and I have 0 idea wha the prompt will be. Any advice on what to do in order to prepare and how to ace the supervised writing ?

    Pre-IB Advice!

Hello! I am starting my first year of pre-IB in two weeks or so (the fourth of September) and I’m quite anxious about it. I’ve been doing a lot of math sheets and reading material that the school has suggested all pre-IB students do. I’m just wondering if anyone has any advice for me, or any advice specifically for pre-IB students. Basically, anything you’ve done in pre-IB that was stupid that (hopefully) I can avoid. Thanks!

    Advice for my classes?

Hello everyone, I am currently in my fifth week of IB Year 1 and I have gotten settled with my new teachers and classes. I have set a goal for myself to get at least 40 points in the IB, but I do know that it will be tough and will require the right mentality (I'm working on it!). So, I wanted to come here and ask if any of you more experienced IB students had some advice or helpful tips for any of my subjects: IB Math HL IB Physics HL IB Economics HL IB Computer Science SL IB German B SL IB English Language and Literature SL Any help (including general IB mentality/work-ethic as well) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  12. Hi! So my math sl ia is due sometime soon, and I can't seem to get started with it. This is the fifth time I've changed my topic, so I've wasted quite a lot of time. I finally decided to do my math sl ia on this topic: Modelling the development of swimming performance in the Asian Games.I'm planning to focus on the gold medal winning times in the women's 50 and 100 freestyle. However, I'm not sure on what mathematical concepts and processes I'm supposed to use to model it. I've read a lot of literature on it, but I still don't quite grasp the concept of how to model it. I've tried asking my teacher, but she isn't much help. Anyone can give me some guiding points on how I should take on the topic? Thank you so much!
  13. So I'm considering dropping Chem HL down to either Chem SL, Art SL, or Film SL (Online). I'm thinking of studying computer science but I found out that I don't actually need Chem for the universities I'm planning on applying too. I would say that I'm more creative than technical (Math and etc) but I love technology (interested in VR and design aspect of tech). I'm starting to struggle in Chem HL because my teacher isn't good but I have tried self studying but I don't think I can maintain good grades if I continue. (Also my math and physics teacher isn't good as well so I have to study for that). Because of this I'm considering switching up my courses but I can't decide what to choose, either way I'll end up having English HL as my new HL. Here are the current statuses of the classes: [If I stay] Chem HL: Fav Science, Bad Teacher, A lot of content to catch up on Chem SL: I'm ahead of them in terms of content but I don't know how good the class's teacher is, apparently they are doing a lab rn Art SL: The art class has already done 8-10 experiments, made 3 art slides, and starting their artist research Film SL: Online class, Extra 1000$ fee per year, I like how it's independent coz I can schedule myself and I work better on my own (easier to focus), I also have prior experience in editing and making videos So what do you guys think I should do?

  15. Hello, I'm kinda freaking out as I am a perfectionist who wishes to find the best way to organize my way through IB (I'm starting it in August). My HL's (Math, Physics, Psych) and my SL's (Lang & Lit, Mandarin, Econ). What supplies should I buy to best prepare for these such as binders and notebooks. (I'm already buying an accordion folder btw) Also advice for any of these topics is very much appreciated. (ex. homework load, amount of worksheets handed out, how hard the class is in general) + general tips on CAS and my EE would be amazing Thanks in advance !
  16. Hey! So I was both happy and unhappy with some of my exam grades for my mocks. I was unhappy mostly with my biology and math mock exam grades, my first exam is Math, on May 2. I was wondering, is it possible to highly improve on the real exams then mocks? I am applying in Australia so only my real exam grades matter. Has anyone really improved on their real exams compared to their mocks?
  17. Hi! I am writing my EE in biology and I would really appreciate getting some advice from people who have done it in the past. What was hard for you in the process? How did you solve it? Is there anything that you think would have been helpfull to know earlier in the process? General advice and so on would be really helpfull for me both regarding the writing of the essay and the lab. Thank you
  18. Hey! What do the CalTech Admissions people look for in a candidate? How do I maximise my chances of getting in? Any CalTech Alumni here, I would love your advice.
  19. I've taken Biology, Chemistry and Business management HL along with English Maths and French (ab) SL. I study IB in India and I would like to know about my options. Medical is the first thing to come to mind but that would require Physics and I do not want to take it up. I am planning to study in India because my dad doesn't want me to study abroad for god knows why and I was wondering what course I could take in Indian colleges I am aware that abroad universities do not require Physics for studying medicine
  20. I need your advice on this one guys, here's the somewhat summarized story: So I went to this IB school abroad for a year and came back home for the summer, turns out my parents ran out of money and now I've been out of school for 3 months and I'm still back home. IA's started about a month and a half ago and I was working on my history IA from home, Biology IA started and after talking to the teacher he told me the coordinator told him that I'm not allowed to work on them from home because of the "academic honesty" policy, they then asked my parents to give them another date; they did, and it's in 20 days, the school said that's the final delay date I can have and that if I don't get there by then I'm out and have to take 2nd year next year. I highly doubt my parents can can renew my visa, do what I need to do and get on a plane within that period of time, so I feel like the end is just inevitable. The thing is, now I feel like I've completely lost a chance at anything. I'm done, it's over...what's the point now? I recently got a message saying that even if I go over there on the final date I'm still not allowed to take the exams and I'll just be a "normal" student and will have to start my 2nd year next year anyways...what do I do? Go there anyway and waste my time? The teachers don't teach anything useful for the exams except for maybe 2-3, and even then they can't cover as much as independent studying could because of how big the class is. Aren't I better off spending hundreds of dollars and ordering the books myself and paying for the ridiculous shipping fee's and paying someone to let me print out all the past papers and just studying by myself at home? Then comes the issue of how stressful life is back home, it's nearly impossible to keep focus without something happening, or get distracted by all the different things to do, or procrastinate and cry myself to sleep because of how messed up everything is.

    Subject choice

Hi! I'm a Polish student currently doing pre-dp. Recently I've started thinking about my subject selection. I'm thinking about studying medicine (still don't know if in Poland, where higher education is free or abroad - if you know anything about obtaining scholarships for medical schools in Europe and/or Australia after IB go ahead and tell me), so naturally I will be taking: Bio HL Chem HL Math SL (or should I do Math Studies if I'm less than good at normal math program?) English B HL (heard it's an easy subject and great to kinda balance out Chem and Bio HL) Polish SL But I have a problem with choosing my humanities subject. I want to go easy on myself and choose the easiest possible subject from this group (not a lot of (from worst to best) 1)writing, 2)reading or 3)memorizing), what would you choose from these: Geo SL (heard from graduate who is now studying at Oxford that this one is easy) Economy SL (same as before but what stops me is my hate from math. Is there a lot math here?) Psychology SL (heard it's not easy at all but it sounds interesting) History SL (the hardest but on the other hand i do like history) Global Politics Let me hear your thoughts!

    Subject choices

Hey there! I'm a student from Poland and I'm about to start my IB Programme next year. I was wondering if anyone could help me with my subjects choices. The subject that is required in Poland is actually Polish and I want to take Polish SL. I also want to take Spanish HL and English HL and I'm sure about it. Now, I'm not quite sure yet about other subjects. I need to take Maths, but now I have no idea whether I should take it SL or HL? I've always had A's in Maths but I know that HL Maths is difficult and I just don't know. Especially that based on what I know, most tasks are "Prove this and that..." and I hate proofs. Then, about social studies. I was thinking about Psychology SL (if I took Maths HL) or Geography HL (with Maths SL). Could you tell me your opinion on those subjects? Tbh I think that I would like Geo more but I heard that in my high school Psychology's so much better, our teacher is really cool. I don't know whether I should take the class I like more or the one that is more fun, cause we I don't expect a lot of it in other classes. And, the last subjects (yeah, forget TOK) - physical sciences. I don't know why, but in my school we don't really have a choice there. We only have biology, chemistry and physcis. I would definetly take it SL cause I suck at all of them. And yes, my grades are good in those too (A's and B's) but I just don't like them. Which one did you take and would you recommend it? If I could I would also take Photography but my school doesn't offer it, so I have to deal with what they have. I would really appreciate your help and every single answer.

    EE Review

Hi! I'm almost done with my Chemistry EE and although my EE supervisor says it is fine, I feel very doubtful about it. Although I can't post my EE here or share it with anyone for plagiarism reasons, I'd like to briefly talk with any IB teacher or IB graduate out there about my EE. Please message me. Thanks in advance!

    double sciences

hey guys! I'm going into the IB program this year, and I have 4 HLs and 2 SLs. 2 of my 4 HLs are Bio and Physics. I recognize that this is going to a particularly rigorous course selection, so does anyone have any advice? Just so you know, my other courses are HL Psych, HL English, SL Math Year 2 (took year 1 in grade 10), and SL French.

    Math SL IA Topic

I have to do my IA over the summer, and I have approximately a little less than a month to finish it. I have no clue what to do it on, any help? I know I have to choose something I'm interested in, but I don't know how to connect math to the few things I like. ex. reading, television, video games, food, death, candy, science. I really don't know what to do and would greatly appreciate any help/advice.
