  1. I understand that with words of quantity like 'beaucoup de', the 'de' stays the same. But I'm confused as to when I should write just 'de' or 'du/de la/de l'/des', if I have a phrase like "[noun] de/du/de la/de l'/des [noun]". For example: Le chat des enfants. Le chat de l' enfant. versus Mon mode de vie. Une épidémie d' obésité.
  2. For the 2020 exams, group 2 changed. My teachers haven't really explained what the changes were, nor how and what we have to learn for the exams. Since there are no past papers (or at least that I know of), I am kind of lost. For our lang B class, we are talking about sharing the planet. It feels a bit odd, because I haven't found the connection with learning a language yet. Does anyone know anything more specific about the changes in the curriculum or how we are going to be assessed? Thanks
  3. Does anyone have any tips for the interactive/group oral (oral intéractif) in French B HL? I couldn't really find anything online for it.
  4. Hello, I am in my second IB year. I am currently taking french b sl, but am really struggling on achieving a good grade. Since my first language is german, I would much rather swap the french b to german b, and thus achieve a better grade. The IB coordinator at my school said that taking a language b as self taught is not an option though. I have been trying to see the official IBO statement of this, but cannot find it anywhere online. In a few different threads, I read that some candidates did take a language b as self-taught, so why is my IB coordinator saying language b cannot be taken as a self-taught language? I'm really confused
  5. Hello, I am about to submit my final draft of my French B written assignment. My word count is currently 418 (SL word count is 300-400), which means I am over the word limit by 18 words. I told this to my teacher at school, but she says I shouldn't worry about it. Which is why I was wondering whether going over the word limit by a bit is really okay like my teacher says or will this result in a one/two mark penalty? I have been avoiding the submission process as I am worried (I don't want to lose a mark for something as dumb as this)
  6. Hi all, I'm in year 11 right now and I'm starting IB next year. In terms of Language, I'm gonna to take my mother tongue as a Language A Self-taught (which is Japanese). For Group 2 subject, I have no idea whether I should take English A Lang. and Lit. SL or English B HL. (I'm saying English A Lang. and Lit because I read it's easier than English A Lit.) I'm not a native speaker, so I know that English B would be much easier for me to get 7. Do you even think I can aim 7 with English A? I'm not sure about this because I heard that taking English A would be a big advantages if I want to enter the university in England. Is this true? Do the universities like Cambridge and Edinburgh prefer international students to take English A rather than English B? Cheers,
  7. Hi all. Is it possible for Japanese student who is fluent in Japanese to take Japanese B rather than Japanese A? Thanks,
  8. Hi everyone! I have to choose a topic for my extended essay, and I was kind of thinking about doing it on stereotypes and how they affect society. For me,this topic falls into the English B spectrum, so I'll be doing it in that subject. The only problem I have with this topic is that I don't think it is the right one. I really want to do it on stereotypes, but I have to narrow it down a bit more. Do you have any idea how I could do this? Please feel free to give your opinion on my topic and suggest new ones!
  9. Hi there, I am in Year 1 IB and I am doing French B SL currently, I have an average of 3 based on my assessments. I am not very good at French and it is bringing my average down. I was wondering what books or exercises are recommended to practice and study french. For example, I saw this book on amazon called "B French B: Skills and Practice (https://www.amazon.ca/IB-French-B-Skills-Practice/dp/0198390076/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481236684&sr=8-1&keywords=ib+french+b )and I wonder if it is helpful or not. Is there any other exercises/books that are good for French, if you know of some please tell me.
  10. Hi all, I'm currently doing my French B SL written assignment and was wondering whether anyone had any examples of old IA's that received very good marks. I am struggling with the specific layout and points that need to be covered. Much appreciated, Thanks.
  11. Hello, I am currently doing my final year and have been assigned to do my spanish B WT. I was just wondering, since my task is 424 words and i think the max is 400, is it a problem? Thank you
  12. I am about to enroll the IB DP programme by the end of summer. I am a little concerned about my subject combination for being too rigorous. I am up for a challenge, yet a bearable one. In the future, I would like to study at uni in the US. However, I am not sure in what area I may want to study in. But I'm leaning towards Economics/Finance and/or environmental sciences. (Hence why I have both Econ and Bio at HL). Overall, I was wondering if you could share any thoughts on what you think about my subject combination. Is it reasonable considering my future plans? Also, as English is my second language, would you suggest me to do B or A2 at HL. Note that I will be having Swedish A2 SL as well. But please leave some thoughts based on experience regarding English B and A2 at HL. I am not that much into literature, to be honest I hardly ever read. But with the right mindset I could still be willing to learn the "literature" part, I just don't want to struggle too much with it since English (language-wise) has otherwise (so far) been a strong subject of mine. Could it in general make it easier to have 2 subjects in A2, since the structure may be similar, or is it easier to just have one A2 and the other one as B HL as the workload perhaps becomes less (?). Subject combination: English B / A2 HL Economics HL Biology HL Math SL Swedish A2 SL Physics SL Also, what topic did you write your EE on? Simply curious as I have no idea what EE's are all about. Oh and btw, is it possible to write your EE on a combination of two subjects? Thanks a lot!!
  13. I am about to enter the IB DP programme by the end of this summer. Having to choose subjects, I am pondering wether to study English B or English A2 (language and literature). Swedish is my first language and I will study Swedish A2. English is my second language but I am fairly good at it and it has always been one of my stronger subjects. However, I am concerned with the "literature" part in A2. Reading isn't of my greater interests, so having exams related to literature could stand in the way for me to get a 7. However, as the course also includes "language" it might not be as hard? But I obviously don't know much about the subject as I haven't started the IB, therefor, I would appreciate it if you could share some thoughts based on experience. Btw, my other HL subjects are Economics and Biology. Thanks a lot!
  14. So it's now my summer holiday and I'm trying to fix up my Japanese B HL grades for next year. The problem is that I DON'T HAVE A TEXTBOOK OR REVISION GUIDE!!! My teacher did give us a bunch of packets throughout the year alongside a list of the kanji BUT I NEED MORE. If anyone has any form of resources (online and offline) for both SL and HL please help!
  15. Hello, I don't know if this is the right forum to post in - but I'm starting my SL French course next semester in September 2016 through May 2017 and wanted to find someone to have conversations with on a regular basis to improve my abilities. I live in Ontario, Canada in EST (GMT+4). I was probably one of the worst french students in my french courses leading up to this and I definitely want to change this before next semester, and thought having someone to talk to would be fantastic in improving my skills orally. If you are having trouble learning English or Polish, I can definitely help improve your abilities in either language while we talk as well. EDIT: forgot to mention, this would be over Skype or some other form of web communication
