    Citations and Footnotes

I'm currently writing my Extended Essay and have a few questions about citations and footnotes. Note: my school uses MLA 7. When I use a source for the first time in an essay, must I write down the whole citation? If I then use it again later on, should I use an abbreviated version of the citation? If I have several sentences from the same source, should I put the footnote at the end of the last sentence or multiple footnotes after every sentence? Should I place my footnotes before or after a comma or full stop? Can I put more than one footnote in a sentence? Additionally, if I have multiple footnotes in a sentence, should I put them before or after punctuation? How should I reference websites in footnotes and abbreviated footnotes? If I use information that I find in a book, but it comes from a different book that the author has cited, should I write in the footnote “[A diff source] , as quoted in [my source/the book]”? In summary: what are the rules when creating footnotes and citations?

    How to cite a constitution?

For my History Extended Essay, I use a few websites that have old constitutions of the People's Republic of China. But I have no idea how to cite them! For example: http://en.pkulaw.cn/display.aspx?cgid=52993&lib=law https://sourcebooks.fordham.edu/mod/1949-ccp-program.asp Is there a proper way on how to cite them? Or should I simply cite them as websites?

    MLA7 Citations

I'm having trouble with citing a source. How would you format the citation correctly in MLA7? https://www.cia.gov/library/readingroom/docs/CIA-RDP79R00890A000900010002-5.pdf The source is a briefing: Created on the 11th of September 1957 by the NSC (National Security Council?? Is this correct?) Approved for release by the CIA in 2001 (so I guess published online in that year as well) Found on an online database (Central Intelligence Agency's Freedom of Information Act Electronic Reading Room) Accessed on the 1st of May, 2018. Basically, the source was created in 1957, but was only declassified in 2001 (published to the public) and then published online. So when was it published?? Additionally, I researched online and apparently briefings like these were created each day for the President of the U.S. and could only be accessed by the most high-up officials. Is this true? Am I correct in guessing that the source I mentioned here is one of such briefings to the American President?

    chemistry ia help bibliography

hello!!! does anyone know if the bibliography page of the chemistry ia counts for the page number (which is maximum 12)?
  6. Hola fellas, first full copy of EE is due on Oct 5th (internal deadline-don't panic), and I was wondering how many resources like books or journals mates doing their ee in physics have. As you understand, the majority of the theoretical background for the experiment can be covered by 1-3 resources only, but our school's guidelines talk about a "vast range" of sources, without specifying the acceptable number for each group. I'd appreciate some input. Thanks a lot
  7. Can I use mythology in my English b literature EE as a primary source or it has to be a secondary source? The book's author is Robert Graves

    EE outine

Hey! I am currently working on my extended essay in psychology( emotional abuse in children and intellectual growth), and am not quite sure what my outline should hold. I tried looking for samples but none have been helpful so far. Please help me out.
  9. So I'm in Spanish HL and I submitted my written work two days ago. My bibliography is in English, which I know is an incredibly stupid mistake! Of course the source (the novel we read) is in Spanish, but the words "and" and "print" appear in the bibliography. I asked my teacher about it, but she said she doesn't know anything about that (we are a new IB school). Will this greatly affect my grade?
  10. I've finished both my reflective statement and written assignment. My teacher's not been clear as to whether we have to have references and a bibliography or not. I haven't used any external references. Do I still have to reference the quotes from the work used ( A doll's House) and use other sites? Do I have to have a bibliogaphy? Please help, my final WA is due this week!
  11. So I've been working on my EE in English B Literature and I read my books on an e-book reader(Kindle). Because pages aren't shown on kindle, only locations and percentages( for example LOC 456 - 4%) my question is whether can I write the location numbers instead of page numbers, when I want to cite a quote from the book? Or should I just buy the books and look for the pages?
  12. These are some sample annotated bibliographies to help make your bibliography more in-depth. Annotated bibs are bibliographies with a paragraph explaining the origin and value of the source. Enjoy!
  13. Hi everyone, Im really struggling on how to cite and reference my work in my Business IA. I got all of my information from my dad who already has all of the SWOT for the possible expansion locations of a few factories. How do I cite this in my IA? IM REALLY STRUGGLING ANY HELP WOULD BE REALLY REALLY APPRECIATED!!! THANKS GUYS
  14. Hi everyone, I'm getting ready to submit my extended essay next week, and I'm polishing up everything and double checking my sources. I have a doubt in regards to citing quotes from secondary sources: what do I do if there's a quote from a book that I want to use and is cited in the book to be originally said somewhere else? More specifically, my EE is about art and Dalí's work (it's more specific than just that, I promise), but there's a quote that I found in a museum guide that I bought during the summer that I found interesting to use. And in that book, the quote is cited to be first published in one of Dalí's autobiographies. My supervisor told me to create a secondary source, but how exactly do I do that...? Thanks for the help (: Regards, Sofia

    referencing/bibliography

Guys, I've got an important question about referencing in the IB. If i want to do an in-text citation (i think that's what it's called a citation in the body of my assignment, in the footnote), should I do the full MLA citation or should i put the URL there? and once i do either of them, should i include that reference in the bibliography again? so if my IA has 18 references in the footnotes, should i add all of them to the citations in my existing bibliography? okay I just read the guide, and apparently there's a difference in references, citations and bibliographies. i'm still confused Mishi
  16. Hey! I'm just finishing my EE (about time) and after cutting down 1000 words, some content along with some sources had to go. Righ now I have 12 sources in my bibliography, is this an appropriate number of sources to have for a psychology EE?
  17. Good morning, good afternoon and good evening ladies and gents all over the world. I hope you are all on top of your things. I will briefly tell you that I am a perfect representation of what is known as a paranoid parrot. Apparently my Extended Essay is due tomorrow and even thou I finished it weeks ago, I am still editing it and probably I'm going to stay up whole night doing so. Here's what you need to know: 1. I am using sources in Georgian, therefore I am translating the book titles myself. 2. I am also translating sentences from Georgian to English directly and I may have not referred to all of them as necessary. 3. I do not want to lose my diploma because of plagiarism. My previous draft came out with 6% plagiarism from turnitin.com, does that mean that it's good? My teacher said it's pretty good as long as I have the references and bibliography. As a paranoid parrot, I am still worried of getting caught in act of plagiarizing, even thou I am not intending to do so. So, here is my question, how likely is it that the nice gentleman or a lady, who will correct my essay and have the power to determine the faith of my future, is going to catch me on plagiarizing? Since the deadline is tomorrow, I would be glad to hear answers, if some of you know it, in near future, meaning in an hour or so. I sincerely thank you for your attention and help. P.S. I might have b.s.'d some of the references since they're in Georgian, hoping that whoever checks my EE will not check the sources. Even I had a hard time finding the books. Is it likely that they are going to check if all my references are correct? OR, by looking at the turnitin result, they will not give a damn about it and just assume that the references are correct? Once again, thank you for your time. -Yours truly, Nicholas.
