  1. Hi!! This is my second year of IB and in order to study ESS more efficiently, I made a summary of the whole book. Let me know if you want it
  2. Hello! I am a rising 11th grader and initially selected the courses: HL History, HL Geography, HL English LL, SL Spanish LL, SL Biology, and SL Math Applications and Interpretation. I am considering to switch from HL Geography to HL Biology, and change to SL Math Analysis. However, I would then have two very content heavy HL courses (Bio and History), which I have heard very bad things about. How do-able is it to do these courses together? Could someone also provide feedback on the new maths courses? While I heard that universities do not care which one you pick unless you study a mathematical field, I am aware that SL Math Applications and Interpretation is akin to Math Studies- this has droven me to rethink my decision. I have a consellor appointment tommorrow which will be my last chance to switch courses- PLEASE, please provide some feedback ASAP.
  3. Hi guys, recently I'm deciding my biology EE topic. My research question is about the caffeine effect on metabolism rate and i really want to do the plant experiment, but I'm not sure for how difficult this experiment will be😂. Had anyone done the similar experiments before? or any suggestions? Thanks!!
  4. I have to do a IA on the germination of seeds. I have my independent variable which is salinity. I am looking at it effect on the time it takes for a seed to germinate. I have a few questions, What is a good range of concentrations? How much of the concentration should I add? What is the best way to get my concentration? Should I add the concentration to the soil and add the salinity of the soil on top, or change the salinity of the soil to a fixed point? E.g. add 1% to soil or make the soil have 1% salinity. All help would be great! Thanks!
  5. Hello everyone, it is urgent. I need to submit my biology lab report on next Monday, if someone is willing to correct it by giving me your Gmail account, it would be so helpful. The lab report is about the yeast respiration (2.8 Cell respiration). Could you please leave comments on my doc? I will share it with you. Thanks for your advance! Yours sincerely
  6. Hi, I'm currently choosing my topic fo my IA and I'm really struggling with it. I'm aiming at 7 as the total score for Bio, so I would love to get the highest grade possible for my IA (possibly a 7). I want it to be simple and possible to do at home during lockdown. My first idea included the influence of pH on lactase, but it seems too simple to me, so I started to look for some other stuff. The topics that I was interested the most were enzymes (perhaps something more difficult and original than lactase) or something connected with yeast. My other idea was to do something connected with mitotic index, but I don't really know if that would score high and if I could do it at home. And I've recently started to think about doing something with a factor influencing seed germination. But generally, I would be most happy to do something on enzymes as I find it quite easy and interesting. But would it give me good marks? All pieces of advice are more than welcome. I don't want anyone to give me the research question and whole topic, more to suggest which topics would be worth considering and if those I mentioned would be good enough or not. I'll be grateful for any advice. Thank you!
  7. Hello! I am a junior in the IB programme and my IA rough draft is due next week and I was marking mine and i wanted to know if anybody knows what the boundaries are between a 7 and a 6. After marking me and my friends marking it, I got a 22/24 and I dont know whether that is a 6 or a 7! I saw that in 2016 this would be considered a 7 but I could not find any further information! Can anybody help me with this? Thanks 😊
  8. Hi, I am doing my extended essay in biology(obvisly from the title). My topic is related to plant and the effects of different concentrations of vitamins on the rate of growth of Solanum lycopersicum (tomatos). I said this to my techer and emailed her my RQ "How does vitamin C, B and multivitamin affect the rate of growth of Solanum lycopersicum?" She told me the topic is good, however the RQ is not developed enough. Can anyone please tell me what I need to add to fix my RQ???? Thanks in advance!!!!!

  10. Hey, does anyone happen to have Biology 4th Edition IBID by Minka Peeters in pdf? The one that is on the ibdocuments is only the "extras" for this book and I really need this book, it's not available in my country, I believe, and due to coronavirus, there are no international parcels coming so I can't really order it I would be grateful, thanks!!
  11. I just wanted to know if y'all think this would be an acceptable Research question for a biology IA, I'm just doing data analysis from sources. To what extent does a country’s average life expectancy affect the suicide rate within that country? Just a quick yes or no will do, thanks.
  12. I have a chemistry extended essay topic that I'm very interested in but i don't know if it is a good example for a chemistry extended essay. I want to talk about Honey, change some variables by maybe taking honey made from different places compare them, maybe change the temperature , maybe calculate viscosity??? Please help me I want to make sure that it's a good chemistry topic and should I continue or not and please if yes tell me some variables to change to my experiment interesting.
  13. Hi, I am currently in the process of choosing a subject and topic for my EE and I still don't know what to do. Kind of stressed as we have to submit out proposal in two days so I really need some help. I am thinking of either doing a Biology EE or a world studies EE (combining economics and biology) For my Biology EE I am thinking of doing a research on which type of fertiliser can help best with plant growth? Do you guys think this is a good topic to investigate? Will it get me a high mark? On the other hand, for my world studies EE, I am thinking of looking into socioeconomics of countries such as comparing them and see how it affects the spread of diseases. For example, does richer countries do better in controlling the spread of diseases than poorer countries? (My teacher has suggested looking at maybe SARS and how different countries prevented it and compare, but my teacher said that it will be hard to find suitable datas to compare so I really don't know what I can do) Does anyone have any advice or ideas as to what I could do? Thank you!
  14. Hey! So my current topic for my Biology HL IA is "How does pH affect the glucose content in milk?" and I'm not sure if it is good enough to get a good grade (7). I wanted to change the pH of milk by the addition of bases and acids and then adding lactase which would break lactose into glucose and galactose. Then I would use glucose test strips to see what the content of glucose in all of the samples is. Is it good enough? Should I make it more complicated by checking something else? Or should I look for another topic? All tips and help would be much appreciated!
  15. Hi, these are my options so far... HL: Physics, Biology, English SL: Econ, Spanish, Maths AA I'm worried about taking two sciences at HL. No one at my school has done that before and I'm afraid it's going to be too difficult (I want to get a good grade of ib). I am fascinated by physics and biology, plus I am thinking about going to medical school or studying physics so I know that both courses will help me decide what I want to study. Has anyone taken two sciences at HL or do you know anyone who has? I welcome any suggestions! Thank you
  16. I need help... I don't know if I should choose Chemistry HL, I was a Core IGCSE student and I'm not very good at chemistry or an overall intelligent student , I was in the top 5 but as a class we are not very good anyway.Should i choose it i have until the 3rd of November to choose my options. Ohhhh. I'm also a hardcore procrastinator and never really do things on time. Is CHEM HL really hard? or if i study will i be able to do it
  17. Hi! I'm doing my EE on biology secondary research and struggled looking for samples or direct guidance at all so I mainly relied on the IB EE guide book. I've summarized the key points they mentioned for Bio and another summary under the actual text because the other summary I originally made was still too long. (yes. it's that wordy.) so there are two summaries, you could say. Most of what they say are a bit repetitive so I will be posting another clearer version of this once im done with my finals on thursday. If you guys want, I can also change it to a checklist format to make it easier. Hope it helps! BIO EE CRITERIA.docx
  18. So I've decided to do my IA on the effects of temperature on the transpiration rate of plants using potometer. I told my teacher about the topic and he approved of it. BUT the experiment and it's results are actually a part of the syllabus. Will there be any problems or issues with my IA later on?
  19. My subject for the EE is chemistry, and I was wondering how far I can stretch that subject to apply to other subjects. My main idea is that I should study how cottonmouth venom is synthesized into an antivenom. The final topic is due tomorrow. However, there are a lot of problems with this topic. First of all, my TOK teacher (not my subject supervisor) told me that this topic leans too heavily into biology, but he isn’t the best resource on scientific EEs, which he admitted to me personally. Second of all, venom is a toxic chemical. Am I allowed to study this, even though I don’t plan to do am experiment myself? The subject says explicitly that toxic and dangerous chemicals are prohibited, but I’m unsure if that applies only to personally-conducted experiments, or to the topic in general. Lastly, I can’t do my own experiment in this topic, obviously. Will this cause me to lose points? These are my main problems/ questions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    Biology IA on caffeine

heya! I thought of doing my IA on the effect of caffeine on plant growth. Is this topic good enough? Any other suggestions anybody?
  23. My biology IA proposal is due soon and I don´t really have a concrete idea. Since I´m lactose intolerant I want to do something related to lactose and lactase but I can´t think of what I should do with it. Changing the temperature and the concentration seems a bit too straight forward so I was thinking I´d change the pH but I´m not too sure... Does anyone have any ideas???
  24. Hey! A quick little post to kindly ask if any of y'all could fill out this form for my data collection for my Biology IA. All you have to do is complete a small online colour vision test and then add your result. Thank you ahead of time for the help! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfxh562qoHj7CO0XPgMwOVFrkjR1ZvDGwMublGAkQ3opAGFYw/viewform?usp=sf_link
  25. Hey, I am desperately in need of help on how I should write up the report for my biology IA. I did "How does the PH of the provided plant nutrition affect the germination of pea seeds?" Any ideas on how I should write it up?
