  1. I'm starting the IBDP next school year and I just submitted my final courses for IB. I chose HL - psych, bio and french b, and SL - math aa, english and chem. Initially when I picked these courses, I was planning on doing Zoology in uni, but now I'm a bit more hesitant on doing Zoology. What major/degree can I get in uni with these IB courses? And what do you think of these courses? (aka what are the stress levels like for these classes). Thank you very much!
  2. Hey guys can y'all please tell me which textbooks are great for the following IB subjects: HL-Phy,Chem,Math SL-Eng A, French B, Business management Thank you
  3. Hello I'm a new DP 1 student and I started looking for ideas for my EE. I decided to pursue chemistry as my subject and I have a solid topic in mind, but it's not wide enough. I'm going to investigate differents cuts of meat of different ages and I'll compare the values of protein and fats in each. What can I do else? And how can I make this a proper topic? What experiments can I execute? If you're not allowed to help me, just tell me how I can find the experiment needed... Thank you in advance.
  4. Hey guys can y'all please tell me which textbooks are great for the following IB subjects: HL-Phy,Chem,Math SL-Eng A, French B, Business management Thank you
  5. Hi there! I'm currently doing pre-IB and it's time for me to choose subjects for DP. I want to take bio HL for sure, but only recently it hit me there's a chance I'll be needing chemistry to major in some bio stuff in the future...The thing is, I never really paid attention in chem class I was convinced I won't be taking it as a subject. It's not like I'm really bad at it, I just can't imagine taking chem HL :''') I don't know which uni will I choose, I don't want to major in medicine that's for sure. There isn't much information on uni requirements for majors like behavioral biology, primatology, just bio subjects which don't lead to medicine. If you have any advice or similar experience, please reach out
  6. Hey guys! I just started IB1 and i’m having my mock exams soon. I’m finding IB hard (Because im not naturally intelligent) and I keep doubting myself. So many people in my school are redoing IB1 and I’m scared to see myself in that situation. The subjects i’m taking are quite difficult. HL Chem & SL maths AA especially my question is, suppose I dont get the requirements needed to be promoted to IB2, Will I be forced to redo IB1 or will i have the opportunity to resit some exams and do extra work during the summer?
  7. Hey!! I'm starting IB in less than a month and I already chose my subjects because I wanted to major in Psychology. However, I am now leaning towards veterinary science. At first, I chose bio SL. To be a vet, I first need to have a bachelor degree in Biological Science. The uni I plan on going does not require chem. But, if I do major in biological science, there will be some chem classes. I am for sure taking Bio but I am not sure if I should move it to HL and add Chem SL. My question here is how hard is BIO HL compared to BIO SL? (I'm interested in bio) Will chem SL help me in uni (Biological Science major) even though my uni does not require it? should i take it? (I'm really bad at math and I do not really enjoy chem and I found the intro class hard but I did not really pay attention)
  8. hey guys, I am planning on doing my chem IA on different catalysts impact on the rate of reaction of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. I was planning on measuring this rate of reaction with gas pressure ( with gas pressure sensors). My different catalysts are manganese dioxide, Potassium iodide, catalase, iron dioxide and lead oxide. So 3 transitional metal catalysts, one ionic compound and one organic compound as my catalyst. But now I am beginning to have second thoughts on this topic because ultimately I am not using a quantitative value as my IV. I've just chosen 5 different catalysts. But I'm not sure how I would hypothesize which catalyst is better than the other, and when I get my results how I would justify. Is me having these types of catalysts as my IV rather than some quantitative value a potentially bad thing or more likely to have a bad impact? Because I dont know how to form my hypothesis and I could not find much research online (quite frankly I dont even know what to look for). So some guidance here would be awesome. : ) so should I try simplifying my topic into perhaps ": varying the concentration of one catalyst and its impact on the rate of reaction of hydrogen peroxide? is that too simple? is my previous topic fine? I feel like I am going in circles.
  9. Hi, I'm planning to do my IA on investigating the effect of different concentrations of cyanuric acid on the chlorine concentration in swimming pools. Any idea how to find out the concentration of chlorine in the water? I've heard of the use of titration before, anyone know how the titration works? Help is much appreciated. Thank you
  10. What would be the better science for Japanese university (G30 program in general) ESS or CHEM SL is there a business course in this program?? if you have any advice for this program, please comment

Like what would be the best base for college? Also at what level should I take math? ^ 2 HL spots and 1 SL
  12. Hello everyone, I am currently searching for a topic for my Extended Essay in Chemistry and I am completely lost... I want to study medicine in the future and so I was hoping to find a topic that could be related in a way to that field. Does anyone has an idea or wants to share what was his/her topic for a Chemistry EE? Thank you very much
  13. Hello guys, I am due to submit my extended essay and I have given my subject choice as chem+bio, but I cannot come up with any good extended essay topic. I want to do something related to medicine. Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
  14. please someone answer me so i can decide whether or not i should spend 30 dollars investing in this website, is it worth it? is it a good website? or am i being scammed?
  15. Hey guys, Could someone pls give me feedback on the courses I have chosen for the DP programme. I want to go into the med field. My school doesn't offer both sci at HL. Without further ado this is what I'm thinking of taking: Hl Chem, Sl Bio, Sl French(mandatory), Hl Lang & Lit (mandatory), Sl Math, Hl History
  16. So I started my DP in September and now it's December. My HLs are physics chemistry math and English and SLs are business and french. i was going to planning to go into a engineering direction but now I'm definite to go towards architecture but I realised that I need a portfolio of at least 12 pieces. its been 3 months into the programme and the art students have already done 2 pieces and 2 essays and I'm not too sure I'll be able to catch up. Is it too late to try and change??? SOS 😩😩
  17. Hi, Throughout my Chem EE (APA citation), I'm using different pieces of information from the same page in the same website. So I have the same in-text citation whenever I use the website's info (which is fine, I think, because there are a lot of other citations in between), but in the bibliography, I have the same citation repeated four times. Is that fine or should I use an abbreviation? What should I do about it? This is the bibliography citation btw: ACID_BASE INDICATORS. (2017). Ch.ic.ac.uk. Retrieved 19 June 2017, from http://www.ch.ic.ac.uk/vchemlib/course/indi/indicator.html
  18. Hi, Can we use contractions like 'it's', 'I've', etc? I'm doing a Chemistry EE and we need to keep the formal tone, but I'm going over the word limit so I'm hoping contractions will save me. Thanks in advance!
  19. HELP! I've just started Junior year, so IB has just kicked off and we have 2 weeks to change our courses if we wish. I have always been sure that I want to do 2 Sciences, first I picked Bio and Chem (both HL), then I changed my mind so I decided to do Bio and Phy (HL) because I've always loved physics. But now I am starting to change my mind again, because I've read that Bio and Phy aren't the best combination and I feel like with those classes my college majors all of a sudden gets way more limited. Help! Should I stay in Physics or change back to Chem??
  20. im doing an extended essay in chemistry, and i plan to determine the effect of storage temperature on L-ascorbic acid using iodometric titration and the briggs rauscher reaction, i need help with adding content to my introduction, please help.
  21. Hello, I am finding it difficult to decide which science subjects to choose and would appreciate some help and guidance. First of all, I am not entirely sure what I want to study in the future (perhaps economics, although the sciences really interest me too). That being said, I am sure about studying in the US. I have done a summer course in IB biology (also math which I am fairly well at), also had a brief look at the content that appears in IB physics. I have no prior background in chemistry however. These are my subjects in general: Economics HL English HL Science HL Math SL Ab initio SL Science SL I want to pick 2 science subjects, one at HL respectively SL. 1. How is physics HL? Is it the ‘broadest’ science in terms of future studies? Does it differ largely from SL - is SL in that case quite a bit easier? Easiest / hardest topic? 2. How is chemistry SL? I am not to keen on HL, and have heard that SL is easy. Easiest / hardest topic? How do you study for it? Is it quite mathematical? 3. Lastly, is biology HL much more difficult compared to SL? Is bio SL pretty much the same level as chem SL? In case I take bio and physics - is that a weird combination, from universities perspective? Since the subjects don’t overlap that much at all..btw, which subjects do overlap the most and would this ease study? Here are the combinations I am considering: Physics HL + Biology SL or vice versa Biology HL + Chemistry SL Thanks in advance! Also, please do share any additional insight/your experience with the subjects besides from my questions.

    IA Help

Hi, so I'm not sure about my research question. I've been told that I need to be extremely specific and that the reader should know everything about my experiment after reading my research question. When I tried framing it, I saw that it was too long, but my teacher said it was okay. I'm really confused, because I've never seen such a long research question before. It is: What is the effect of different sugar concentrations (0.8M, 0.9M, 1.0M, 1.1M, 1.2M, 1.3M, 1.4M of 1:1 glucose/fructose solution) on the percent of sugar fermented by measuring the amount of ethanol when 1.00 ± 0.01g of yeast is added to 10.0 ± 0.1ml of sugar solution, by back titration with potassium dichromate, potassium iodide and sodium thiosulfate? Please advise me on how I can improve it. Thanks
