  1. Hi all! I was just wondering whether someone knows how getting into a Dutch university (especially University of Amsterdam) works. I have obtained a predicted GPA of 38 points and I have applied to a few uni's in Holland with that average. I have applied for political science programs. There seem to be no additional requirements other than passing your exams and having excellent English. I've researched this like hell and searched the depths of the internet and have come to wonder; Do they make me an offer based on these predicted grades (motivational letter, CV etc. in some cases) and then I will not get in only if I do not pass my exams? Meaning that I do not need to get 38 points to get in. This is what I understand from all that I have read. Especially in the case of this program and University of Amsterdam. I was wondering whether someone here from IB has been admitted to a Dutch uni? Please give me your knowledge!
  2. Hello, guys! I hope that you are all doing great after the results day. I am thinking about requesting remarks in the following subjects: Dutch A: Lit SL 6 ( 3 points away from a 7) Biology HL: 6 ( According to the component grades, I had 79.6% whereas the upper-grade boundary is 80%) Economics SL: 5 ( 61.6% whereas the upper-grade boundary is 63%) Chemistry HL: 5 (61% whereas 64% is a 6) Other questions: 1. For Lang A: Lit SL, is Written Assignment also remarked (I had 19/25)? 2. For Bio, should I just pass the 80% mark (e.g. with the additional 0.5%) in order to get a 7 or I need 81%? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks! P.S. I am still waiting for some of the component grades (Dutch and Chem)...
  3. Hi guys, These are some very useful tools for learning a language. They provide you with all sorts of help related to translation (obv ) proof reading, grammar, examples, and usages. - www.Wordreference.com as many of you may know is a dictionary for many languages and often gives you a few example sentences and basic facts (masc. feminine, noun, etc.) - www.linguee.com is a great website if you come across a word and want to find other forms it's used in. It basically finds real-life websites/articles/etc. that use a word in 2 languages (e.g. English and French) It also has a basic dictionary and works in many languages. - www.Bonpatron.com is great for proof-reading your work, it checks your grammar, articles at the beginning of a noun, etc. However, it's only limited to French. - www.conjugation-fr.com is great for conjugating a verb in French. It provides dozens of various tenses (some of which are literary-level). It's an all tenses in 1 place. Hope it helps
  4. Hey, So my question is about writing a category 3 (Studies in language) EE in Language A. In the EE guide it says "Where appropriate, students may compare and contrast different languages and cultures. However, the main focus of category 3 extended essays should be on the language and culture(s) of the language in which the extended essay is written." Does this mean I could only talk about the culture of my language or should I really focus on the language?
  5. Hi Guys, I'm going to be starting the IB diploma course in September, and I was just wondering how difficult it is? I've chosen these subjects: - HL English - language and literature - HL Dutch - literature - HL History - SL Mathematics - SL Economics - SL Environmental studies and society. How difficult are these subjects? How long does it take you to complete a set task or something? Thanks so much if you could help! x
