  1. Hi all, I'm going through the panic phase of IB where EE and IAs started to thrown at our faces. And I have to come up with a EE topic and subject. One of my option is to take it in Econ HL, my supervisor would be a experienced Econ teacher and EE examiner. However, I don't find Econ nearly as interesting. On the other hand, I thought film studies could be fun. Granted I don't take film studies, but I've been working as a professional cinematographer for the past 5 years, so I theory my knowledge would be far beyond than the scope of IB film. My concern would be the different terminology that's used across the fields (as it seems like they really look for this according to examiner's notes). Have anyone here perhaps had experience on both sides, production and studies, who could tell me how much over laps there are? I would also have a much less experienced supervisor if I take film studies (all of the perienced ones left last year), though I hope I can overcome this by raw knowledge. All opinions are appreciated. J
  2. I want to drop SL chemistry for film but that will take a lot of convincing to my teacher since IB has been going for 2 months already and it is too late for me to change. My school doesnt offer the subject but theres an online course: pamoja film and i didnt know about this until yesterday and im really really interested in film. does anyone have any experience with pamoja though? im just afraid of regretting the decision (if im allowed to change) because its an online course and stuff... hows the work load?
  3. My current EE (Film Studies) question is "To what extent are Walt Disney Picture's female protagonists influenced by Studio Ghibli's female protagonists?" I feel like it comes off as too broad (and biased since I'm assuming that there is an influence on one by the other) since there are hundreds of ways one can influence another. However, if I said it like "How have Walt Disney Picture's female protagonists grown due to the influence of Studio Ghibli's female protagonists?" then that also comes off as an assumption since there is no evidence. Please help me with the wording! Thank you!
  4. Good morning/afternoon/evening (who knows, right?) I have decided to do my Extended Essay on Film. I do not have it at my school, though it is one of my main interests. My question is on the topic. I have thought about two options, please guys help me out in here: comparison between The Lord of the Flies and The Apocalypse Now (my RQ would be: To what extent does each film reflect the downfall of the oneiric/idyllic and the appearance of the anarchy?). In this first option, I would like to explore the islands and the idyllic as a theme, that is, the idea of perfection in Cinema. If you guys have some other idea than Apocalypse Now please tell me. In addition, I though about comparing Sam Raimi's Spider Man (the older films) and Mark Webb's The Amazing Spider Man (the more recent spider man movies). It would be a cool and original thing to do, also there has been lots of debate on Mark Webb's films as they are considered to be worse and puny, comparing to Raimi's. I don't have a topic for this, since it is simply an idea, but if you think this would be good for an EE... I am kinda frightened with this as I have the feeling the examiners won't really like this... Please guys, I am really in trouble, just let me know of what you think and if you had Film as an EE what was your topic. Cheers, Richard
  5. My school just started the EE process, and I need help deciding between World Studies and Film Studies. I was wanting to do something with the Cold War and the use of film in propaganda.
  6. The similarities and differences in exploring the theme of revenge in Akira Kurosawa's Bed Sleep Well and Chan Park Wook's Oldboy. Is this a realistic topic to study on for my EE?
  7. I am going to write my EE topic on Film Studies. I am interested on social impacts of censorship (but i believe this might be boring)I am interested on Japanese and Korean movies, maybe i can compare two directors or two eras.I am interested on psychology too so i can find a director that has a mental illness and his/hers illness reflection on his/her art. ora mental illness portrayed in movies. Which one do you think i should choose and how can i make these specific. Do you have any recommendation ?
  8. I am planning to write my EE in Film and I know I am going to talk about the Hunger Games and/or Catching Fire but I am unsure of how to formulate a good RQ. I would like to do how the film(s) used cinematography and sound/score to recreate the book(s) but I'm not sure if this will lend itself to the EE. Please help...
  9. I'm just wondering if I wanted to do my extended essay on a script analysis of a movie, purely the script and nothing to do with watching the film or visual techniques, could I do it as an English extended essay? Because my school is hesitant about me doing film studies as a subject choice for the EE.
