  1. Hii everyone I need some help I'm thinking of applying to med schools in usa and canada next semester but my school only offers either ib chemistry or ib biology. I don't know why but there are two separate programs in our school and you can choose only one. One offers chemistry, physics, maths, literature, english and ess and the other offers maths, literature, english, french, biology and titc (turkey in the twentieth century) as ib classes. As I had to make a choice this year I chose the second one because I wasn't certain with med school but I had a keen interest on biology alone. Now I don't know what to do. If you know anything pleaaase help me? Thank you in advance.
  2. Hey guys, I know this question might be a little confusing, since I actually don't have a definite career path I am going for yet, but hear me out please? I think I might have actually joined this site a little early, considering the fact I am starting school in a month or so, meaning I'm technically pre-pre-IB, but if it helps I do need help with planning out my future in this program. I also know all the classes I'll be taking once school starts, and I'll post them if it helps, though I don't know if it well, considering the IB program starts in the third year of high school, right? I don't know if it's possible to take IB classes before you actually take the tests to get into the program- If it is, please tell me. Anyway, back to the main question I was going to ask: Since I am going to be using my next two years to prepare myself for the program that helps prepare me for a good life, I'd like some help beforehand on figuring out what classes within the IB are good for me. I'm sure that not all schools offer the same IB classes, but even if that's the case my school has a lot of classes, so don't be shy to suggest them! I am curious about entering a medical career, except I have needlephobia, so maybe something related to pharmacies...? I really don't know what IB classes would even help me get into a STEM field, but I'd appreciate it if somebody could advise me. Also, what classes should I avoid? I mean, no class is really bad, but certainly having classes that focus more around a different field wouldn't be too smart... At least not too many of them... It's kind of like how you don't want to take a Gender Studies class in College unless that's something you're going into... Anyway, any advice? I put this in general because my question is sort of a mix of what career path I should take, and what IB classes will help me get there. I plan to overcome my needlephobia and I'm not afraid of giving shots to plants or using syringes without needles already, but I don't think I could handle something like a nursing career, where I'd have to insert needles into humans day after day... I like Science and am neither the best nor worst in it. I think I'm pretty bad at Math because memorizing formulas is a challenge for me, but I can do basic math quite well, and I think that as long as the career doesn't rely on Math 100% of the time I'll be fine. Oh, and finally, I am a realist, so money and decent employment opportunities are VERY important to me. So yeah, any suggestions? I've always liked genetics and things revolving around living things, but as I said, needles scare me half to death! What STEM field do you think would be right for me, and what classes in the IB program could help me get into that career?
  3. I'm not completely sure on how to fill out the education section on the UCAS application. I attend an American high school, which goes from grades 9-12. But for 11th grade, I started the IB Diploma Programme. I'm currently in my second year of IB (grade 12). Do I need to fill out all my high school grades or do I mention only IB And If I need to fill out all my american grades(9-10th grade), which qualification is that?? Thanks.
  4. I have a question that you guys might be able to help me with. I know that I want to go to school and be a teacher but I can't figure out if I want to be a High school or Elementry school teacher. I have pros and cons for each but nobody in my family wants me to be a teacher because they think it's stupid. I'm just looking for other people's opinions on the matter, and what you might do. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. :3
  5. hi guys! I'm a straight A grade 10 student in Canada who just recently decided that I want to be health care administrator when I grow up. I want to get a some sort of science bachelor at UBC and then get a major in health administration. However, my school has IB and I'm not sure if I should take it or not. To be honest, I'm not worried about getting into uni, since my grades are really good and I'm really involved in the community. But I heard that IB makes university so much easier, and u can transfer credits to get a head start. Not to mention, IB has the whole "broad thinking" aspect. And now, I don't know what to do! I do a lot of volunteering, and wanted to get a part-time job in the future also. Not to mention, I want to go the gym twice or three times a week since I won't be taking gym next year. Should I take IB and spend most of the day doing homework and maybe not getting good marks, or do regular curriculum, get high marks, and have lots of time to volunteer at hospitals and so forth? Oh and also, my school doesn't have any business or economy IB classes, which health administration kind of revolves around, so should I just take normal classes to take business classes?
  6. Hello, I was recently informed by my counselor that I would have to take a one-credit Fine Arts class in order to Graduate. Usually all IB students are exempt from Economics, Fine Arts, Comparative Government (classes required at my school). But, this counselor told me that only Fine Arts is required in IB. Well, since I am an IB senior, I obviously won't have much time to take that class, and I would like to deviate from any more requirement. Therefore, my question is: Are IB students really exempt from all of those classes? And should I contact IB to make sure? Thank you.
