  1. I am starting IB at this summer. I want to apply to Chinese University of Hong Kong Economy department or hotel business how much should I get for the predicted grade? Is the predicted grade out of 42 or 45?
  2. Hi my fellow IB classmates I am a Y11 student currently taking my first year of IB (it's been 2 months already as of this post) at an international school in Hong Kong. However, there's a special case for me. Originally, I am leaving for Canada or the United States to continue IB or IB/AP due to the limited subject choices offered here in HK. Due to certain events, I broke my forearm and in the process also severely damaged my ulnar nerves, preventing me to leave as constant medication is required. On the up side, my parents allow me to leave next year to continue IB in Canada or the states but there's some concerns raised from me at this point. Can you only take 1 language&literature subject? Or do you have to do at least 2 from group one? Here are my current choices in HK HL: English Lang&Lit, Geography, Physics SL: Chinese/Cantonese Lang&Lit, Business Management, Math Here is the subject list I wish to alter once I'm there: HL: English Lang&Lit, Geography, Physics SL: Music SL, Business Management, Math Is it possible? Furthermore, what will happen to my Music IA scores and what can I do with the predicted grades I got for Chinese Lang&Lit? Any help/response will do Thanks (sorry for the long passage)
  3. I want to study in Hong Kong, and am applying to City Uni of HK, HKU, and HKUST I have a predicted 35 Math HL 4 Phys HL 5 Chem HL 5 Lang lit HL 6 Econ SL 6 Spanish B SL 7 TOK/EE 2 I'm quite undecided on what I want to study, I just want to get into one of these schools. Are there any majors that would make my chances higher, at any of these unis, especially HKUST and HKU? I know that at HKU, a 33 makes an applicant competitive for economics and finance (per their website) Any thoughts?
  4. Hi guys, I'm in IB year 2 and I'm applying to some universities in Hong Kong for early action. And um... they require my predicted score so I requested my teachers for that last week and I don't think I can get a decent scores.. I'm guessing somewhere around 29~30...maybe 31 if possible. :/ Anyways, I'm really interested in PolyU Hong Kong and I'll apply to business marketing and it's my first choice as well. I heard that PolyU doesn't really require high predicted scores (except for hotel management) and they usually accept almost everyone who takes IB diploma (I'm not sure about this btw haha).. Umm so anyone who's attending this school or got accepted before, can u guys tell me about this uni and predicted score range..? P.S. Oh and my first language is not english so I took TOEFL and got 81, and I'll submit this score as well. And also, do they require college essay? Cuz as I mentioned on the top, my scores aren't good so if I write an excellent college essay, does it help for increasing the possibility of acceptance..? Thank you so much!!!
  5. Hey guys so I'm planning to apply to Hong Kong universities (especially HK PolyU) How much predicted score should I get (minimum score) for applying PolyU business management? Cheers
  6. Hey, I'm doing my History EE on the question "How did the Kashmir conflict of 1947 become the core political dispute between India and Pakistan between the years 1947 to 1956?" Firstly, I was wondering if that question is okay or if I should change it to "How did Indo-Pak relations, regarding the Kashmir conflict of 1947, develop during the years 1947 to 1956?" It's not that different to the first one but I'm not sure which one makes more sense. Secondly, I've been putting off my EE so much this summer because I have no idea how I'm meant to structure it. I understand the basic structure of any EE - Intro, Body and analysis, and conclusion - but how is a history EE meant to be structured? Finally, (yes using sign posting because I just did my Eng IOC) I have all my research and almost all my sources say the same thing - the underlying dispute behind the Kashmir conflict lies in the conflict of ideology and nationalism between India and Pakistan. Should I answer my question by saying that "while Kashmir is the main dispute, the conflict goes much deeper into difference of ideology and pride of both states"? Also, I'm screwed because I was meant to have a draft done by the time my school starts - which is in 2 days...so if you could thoroughly help with all that ^, I will somehow send you chocolates and gifts :-)
  7. Just curious, what's the difference between Language A1 and A2? My school has A, B, and ab initio but no difference in A.
  8. I'm doing a history EE on the Kashmir conflict and my research question currently is "Discuss how the 1947 Kashmir conflict became the core political dispute between India and Pakistan during the years of 1947 to 1956?" or possibly "How did the 1947 Kashmir conflict become the core political dispute between India and Pakistan during the years of 1947 to 1956?" Firstly, can you please review the question and let me know if it's an appropriate question? Secondly, I need to fill out the "Justification of Relevance" which asks to explain how my research question is relevant to my study...I'm not too sure about how to answer this, can someone help with this especially? Thank you guys!!
  9. So I've been trying to come up with a Maths IA topic for about a month now and my teacher isn't helping at all, whatsoever. I know he's not meant to help that much but I've always been bad at Maths investigations so this is stressing me out. Here are the ideas so far: - Probability of getting a shot into the pocket in pool: comparing a close yet awkward angle shot to a far yet ideal angle shot - Profit maximisation (involves econometrics) - Minimum/maximum point in roller-coasters - Projectile motion and calculating the maximum point (I don't know what exactly to calculate the motion of) I have all these ideas and a vague idea of the maths involved but I don't really know exactly how to use the maths and what else I would need to do in the actual investigation. For example, I know that maximisation would involve getting data, somehow differentiating it, and now I'm stuck. I need to get the proposal to my teacher in 2 days and I've given him all these ideas and more but he's turned them down for lack of development of the idea. Please please help!
  10. So I have mock exams coming up and this will have some effect on my predicted grades for uni. I've been trying to revise for these mocks for a while but I have no idea how to revise for my languages (English A SL and Chinese B SL)...help!!
  11. Hi Guys! If you're living/previously living in Hong Kong, please help me by completing this survey on waste charging. https://docs.google....m?usp=send_form THANKS!! I truly appreciate your help! Although I will not know who you are, I believe my research can make a difference to Hong Kong.
  12. My topic is Reinforcement of the British defense of the Imperial colony of Hong Kong in the Battle of Hong Kong, 1941. with the question: "To what extent was the reinforcement in 1941 of British Hong Kong in the Battle of Hong Kong justified?" I'm just looking for feedback as to whether my topic/question is specific enough, and could be covered within the confines of the EE. Thanks!
  13. Does anybody know the requirements or the min. ib points for hong kong university business programme?
  14. Hi guys, I'm going to bombard you with questions~~ haha, I was just wondering which university is better : UBC, U of T, Mcgill, or HKU. I'm planning to apply for early acceptance for these universities, but I'm not sure of the scores that are required to even have a chance for conditional/unconditional acceptance, as I know the scores on the sites are probably too low. My parents are from HK, so I'm planning to get my ID card right when I graduate in May, so is it possible for me to study in HKU not as a international student? or do I have to live there for 7 years? which I haven't, because I was born and raised in Canada. *edit* And I'd like to state that I am fluent in Cantonese, and pretty fluent in Mandarin... My english is also fluent. But my chinese writing is not that good... Oh, and I've heard you need to know Japanese for Business in Hong Kong? I am planning to work in HK, so if I can't get into HKU, I was considering UBC, U of T or Mcgill. And I've heard mixed stories about these universities... apparently UBC is a shame to Hong Kong? Don't ask me about that, I just heard that Hong Kong people look down on people who say they graduated from UBC. But UBC seems easiest to get in at the moment. And I have heard that Mcgill is really hard to get into... most of the IB graduates from my school go to UBC. I haven't gotten my predicted grades yet, but I will this month... I'm confident to say it's over 30 and under 40... haha Oh and I'm planning to study Medical, Business, Criminology, or Psychology, sorry about the big scope. And I am not really considering universities in the US yet since I didn't take SATs I will thank you guys in advance
  15. Anyone planning on studying in Hong Kong when they go to uni? I've got my eyes set on studying the BBA program in the "Hong Kong University of Science and Technology" (HKUST). I got my offer and paid my deposit. I also got my offer from the "University of Hong Kong" (HKU) to study the BA program, which I also paid my deposit for. I'm keeping HKU as a back up. What about you guys?
